Advantages: Good debut. Its Iron Maiden Disadvantages: Sounds dated. Productions not great.
Iron Maiden one of the biggest and most successful British heavy metal bands of all time were founded in 1976 by Steve Harris and fronted by Paul Di anno. After several years of touring all of the local pubs and clubs in London they recorded the sound house tapes. These early recordings became the basis for the bands debut album the self titled Iron Maiden. Released in 1980 it was the bands first success reaching number four in the album chart and ...

Advantages: solid heavy metal, exhibiting the rough charme of a debut album w/ rather low-fi production Disadvantages: approximately 38 minutes constitute a rather short spell of time
...around for a while, the iron maidens' album still rocks.
Prowler
starts with fast and distorted guitars gets even faster as the vocals join in. Beware, this is BEFORE the second guitar adds more fuel to its fire... The same theme is repeated at a breath-taking velocity and reminds me of a chase on a rainy night.
Remember tomorrow
puts more emphasis on the voice, with a calm, cool & slightly melancholy mood. Wooden drums and tinny guitars ...

'Eddie' raises his head! Review ofIron Maiden [Remastered] [ECD] - Iron Maidenby
tonguelessghostofsin
Advantages: NWOBHM figureheads kick off in style Disadvantages: Production not great, even on re-mastered version
...world was ready for an Iron Maiden full-length album. And what a debut!
1. 'Prowler'
A tremendous adrenaline-charged opener, with classic metal riffs driving along this early anthem about a stalker in the East end!
2. 'Sanctuary'
Another unforgettable riff kicks into gear, and we hear the story of a murderer on the run. Unfortunately, the lyrics are very patchy, but the chorus is a metal sing-along.
3. 'Remember tomorrow'
A strangely reflective ...

New wave heavy metal Review ofIron Maiden [Remastered] [ECD] - Iron Maidenby
dave27
Advantages: Strong versions of earlier songs Disadvantages: Still building
An iron maiden was a medieval instrument of torture, a metal, coffin like device with strategically placed spikes in its lid, which was then closed on its victim; it was bass player Steve Harris’ dream that the band of the same name which he founded in June 1976 would create music with similarly penetrating properties. Alongside him in the original line up were singer Paul Di’anno, guitarist Dave Murray and drummer Doug Sampson, but by the time they ...

All hail Maiden Review ofIron Maiden [Remastered] [ECD] - Iron Maidenby

Advantages: Raw and powerful Disadvantages: Production a bit weak in places
...the title...
The grand finale - Iron Maiden! Really odd nonsensical lyrics but has an excellent tune and a great chorus.
Overall - yeah it's a bit weak in places, but it's mostly absolutely brilliant, and you'll be hard pushed to find a better debut album than this. 23 years later, it still rocks!! ...

Once upon a time... Review ofIron Maiden [Remastered] [ECD] - Iron Maidenby
ni_gillespie
Advantages: Disadvantages:
There was no Iron Maiden. Then, in 1980, this little beauty appeared, and incredibly stormed up the charts. Believe it or not folks, Running Free from thsi album got to no. 4 in the charts and landed maiden on top of the pops!. Anyway, the album itself is a New Wave Of British Heavy Metal Classic - there isn't a bad track on here, and many of the songs became live staples for the band for years - Iron Maiden, Sanctuary, Transylvania, Phantom Of The ...

Advantages: Solid, aggressive metal album Disadvantages: Not many tracks
As a big Iron Maiden fan, I was destined to love this CD. Their debut album kicks of with "Prowler", a fast rocker with gritty guitars and fast drums. Other memorable songs include the epic "Phantom of the Opera" (guess the time signature), the classic "Running Free" and the first in a four part saga about a London prostitute "Charlotte The Harlot". Follow ups - "22 Acacia Avenue", "Hooks In You" and "Here To Eternity".
And for the obsessive fans, ...

Advantages: Classic Disadvantages: Slightly Dated
...great voice, shown best on Iron Maiden. A truly classic album of maiden songs, containing unforgettable songs such as Phantom of The Opera, Sanctuary, Prowler and Running Free. The album is generally fast, and brilliant. Slower moments include Remember Tommorow, and the instrumental Transylvania, which are both brilliant too.
If you have to have one maiden album, make it either this one, or Brave New World ...
