Red Peppers Review ofJagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissetteby
Seresecros
Advantages: Every song has something going for it - power, subtlety... lack of subtlety Disadvantages: If you don't like her voice, the album sinks
...terrifying force that spurs along Jagged Little Pill, album no 3 for her, she was a dance singer. Yes, she was one of those twee pop stars who sing about how much they like boys and isn't basketball just the coolest and all those sorts of things. You think I'm kidding? Look her up for yourself. Alanis Morissette used to be a cute kiddie pop singer.
I only mention that because on this album she is frequently terrifying. Come 1995 the once permed ...

Advantages: Emotional rollercoaster Disadvantages: That damned harmonica playing
...in the first place. Jagged Little Pill is one of a handful of albums that does this to me, it’s instantly likeable yet the interest never fades. There’s a song for everyone in here as Alanis writes and sings from the heart. She manages to write about her experiences, some of which I can identify with, some I can’t and others attached to memories etched in my brain. Especially ‘You Oughta Know’ where memories of jumping ...

Temper, temper Review ofJagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissetteby

Advantages: Great songs, wonderful vocals Disadvantages: It's a bit angry
...right now, Alanis Morissette’s 1995 Jagged Little Pill is really striking a chord with me. I bought it when it was first released, but recently it has made a comeback into my personal “most listened” chart.
I’m a woman scorned, you see, so this album rather suits me at the moment, and you’ll quite often find me doing the housework with this on full blast, snarling the incredibly vicious lyrics out at the top of my ...

Anger Management Review ofJagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissetteby
nicanddarrell
Advantages: The songs are brilliant Disadvantages: Mary Jane sticks out like a sore thumb
Alanis Morisette is an angry woman, or at least that is what her debut album portrays her as. She is mad at men who have let her down, intent on revenge and doesn't care who knows about it. She thrust herself onto the music scene after signing to Madonna's Maverick label, and made us all sit up and pay attention with her strong lyrics and even stronger vocals. This is a great anger to listen to and sing until you get rid of all your pent up frustration. ...

Advantages: Diverse, powerful, and emotional. Disadvantages: Do I REALLY have to fill in this field?
Alanis Morissette was virtually unknown in the United States until she recorded and released "Jagged Little Pill" in the mid-90s. This record was fresh, original, and jam-packed with solid emotions - something I personally had found lacking in the popular music industry of that time.
The first single, "You Oughta Know," is obviously the most memorable of all tracks on this record. It is recorded in two versions: The popular "rock" version that ...

Advantages: Great voice, great style, great songs Disadvantages: A bit whiny
Six years ago, Ms M appeared on the world like a thunderbolt with her odd little berating snatch of venom, blathering on about ‘going down on you in the theatre’. I remember Chris Evans going almost hysterical about it on his Radio 1 breakfast show and it clearly touched his on button. However, he was also clearly very anti what he described as a whinging woman.
And therein lies the dichotomy of the depressing Ms M - some great, original, ...

Advantages: the songs Disadvantages: nothing to report
This is one of the best albums I have. Full of feeling, emotion and truth, it struck me in a way I find it hard to describe.
I must admit that I had only ever heard one Alanis Morissette song, the world famous 'Ironic' before I bought this. However my spontaneous purchases (Jewel, Tori Amos) often bring me more joy than many albums by bands I thought I liked but then found I hated even after liking several singles *gorrilaz*, sorry, bit of a sore ...

...happily) for her, the album Jagged Little Pill which showcased her material that year was an enormous platinum smash, but she seemed to fade just as quickly from view as she emerged. She is still around and turning out the sort of stuff she produced back then, but has never recaptured the glorious rush of that first album, a blistering collection of tracks and a spawn of hits which had her on every magazine cover, the queen of the MTV generation

This Is A Must Have Review ofJagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissetteby
Snoogans
Advantages: Every song On The Album Disadvantages: None
Jagged Little Pill is the debut album from the excellent Alanis Morissette. I’ve always said that Alanis Morissette is not just a rock chick with an attitude, she is one of the best songwriters I have ever heard and a fantastic singer to boot.
Jagged Little Pill is also the third highest selling album of all time.
The first track on the album is ‘All I Really Want’ a really good rock song to start off, and is followed be ‘You Oughta Know’ ...

Advantages: A great angry album Disadvantages: Can't be played at a low volume effectively
This was an album that I'd had on my list of things to buy for a long time. I'd constantly been looking for it at a reasonable price (I couldn't look on the internet because I don't have one of those wonderful credit card thingies) and I finally found it at a price that I thought was decent. So I bought it (of corse, then everyone put it into their "specials" section - so that annoyed me). But I digress.
"Jagged Little Pill" is a very angry album, ...

Advantages: great long-term fabulous album Disadvantages: if u dont like it, u probably never will
I define the ultimate album as one that cannot be over-played. They are extremely hard to find, and for some people they do not exist.
For me, this is the ultimate album. I will readily admit that there are plenty of people who will not like this album, and most of them will be men or the hoop-earringed, yellow-haired, pink-trousered variety of women. Sorry, that’s a generalisation, but one based on observation. A lot of men don’t like Alanis Morisette ...

Pure Class Review ofJagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissetteby
miss-swiss
Advantages: The unique Indie/Rock sound Disadvantages: None.
Through this album Alanis has proven herself to be one of the most talented female artists of all time. "Jagged Little Pill" contains some of the best lyrics I have ever heard, they can sound surreal but yet make perfect sense, to me at least. The language can be stong but there isn't a huge amount of swearing. The quality of the music is also impeccable and the album has a unique sound, largely due to the unmistakable voice of Alanis. This album ...

Again performing up to the usual alanis style...
Jagged Little Pill has to be one of the best and most original sounding albums of recent times, even though it's actually getting quite old now!
Apart from having her own individual singing style, the lyrics in the songs are absolutely fantastic.
It's one of those albums that, once you start listening to it, you just can't stop. I don't think this one left the stereo since i first bought it ...

Advantages: no bad songs Disadvantages: none
This is a great album. Even those who don't normally like this sort of music have to admit that this album really is great. Although Alanis Morrissette is always called moany and whiny I think the singing on this album is surreal. Everyone should own this. EVERYONE. With killer songs like "Ironic" and "You Learn" it's got something for everyone and everyone will be able to relate to the songs in some way or another. You can listen to it when you're ...
