U2 at their finest?
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by jo1l

Advantages: A great album
Disadvantages: A couple of weak tracks

The Joshua Tree released in 1987 is widely acclaimed as the album that finally gave U2 their ticket to superstardom status. Many have proclaimed this album as THE album of the mid 80's,with this album U2 could do no wrong. The Joshua Tree was to show the world that U2 had homed their skills into a more sophisticated sound. The Joshua Tree adds to their unique rock sound a mixture of blues and folk influences in an album, that pays homage to many overtly ... Read review

"The Joshua Tree" Lights Up the U2 Catalogue
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by lostinsheffield

Advantages: A musical masterpiece by the Dublin Masters
Disadvantages: Only drawback? Its success inspired U2 to make "Rattle and Hum!"

"The Joshua Tree" is more than an album; it is a work of art. It is more than a defining album for the Republic of Ireland's greatest export; it defined a generation. "The Joshua Tree" is easily the best album to come out of the Eighties, both in content and in being musically way before its time. Where to begin? How about the 3 number 1s that came off this album: "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," "Where the Streets Have No Name," and ... Read review

Supernova
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by mikeydred

Advantages: One of the finest albums ever
Disadvantages: None

U2 released "The Joshua Tree" in 1987. They retained Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois and the overall sound of their major breakthrough "The Unforgettable Fire". On the heels of their previous success they had gone to America to become immersed in other influences, ready to produce this masterpiece. This was one that transformed U2 from a well known Irish band to genuine superstars. It was the fastest selling album ever in the States and became the first ... Read review

A Sort Of Throne Coming
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by indiecater

Advantages: Desert Island Disc.
Disadvantages: The Bands Subsequent Decline.

...swagger of invincibility that the Joshua Tree so espoused. 'Where The Streets Have No Name' is as good an opener as you're likely to get. Searing like dead heat its huge organ drenched beginning is gradually torn apart by the Edge's sprinkling guitar inflections. The vocals could have proved disappointing after such an epic awakening but the energy that fuels Bono's outpourings is exemplary. Up there with some of the best opening tracks of all ... Solid rock to stand on!
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by wildhoney

Advantages: Overall a fantastic album, atmospheric and anthem spawning
Disadvantages: A couple of duff tracks.

...and roll fervor available, "The Joshua Tree" went all out to cement the foundation for U2's place in history, and provided the band's springboard for social change. U2 draw from their cross-country American tours, and Bono's Central American experiences, to supply the album's blood flow. You can imagine the songs being dreamt up on a cramped tour bus as the band travel by night through the heart of the desert Southwest. And there is perhaps no ... Read review

U2 must buy this album
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by rachpauljack

Advantages: Great music and lyrics
Disadvantages: non

I first heard 'The Joshua Tree' a few years ago at my mates house, who's dad was playing it when i went to see her and straight away i loved it and straight away i needed it. I eventually bought the album on C.D from a car boot sale for an amazing £3 (that's what i call a bargain). I have seen the album priced in the shops from £8.99 up to £12.99, as we all know you need to shop around to get the best price. Released in 1987 'The Joshua Tree' ... Read review

My favourite album of all-time, possibly
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by shanecahill

Advantages: Bono's vocals, Edge's guitar, excellent lyrics.
Disadvantages: None

...the subject at hand. The Joshua Tree starts with... Where The Streets Have No Name mixes Edge's excellent guitar, Bono's heartfelt vocals and tremendous lyrics and creates the amzing song we all know today. Sends a shiver up my spine every time. Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For is an easy to sing-along to song, except in the parts where Bono hits all the emotional notes with that voice of his. Incredible lyrics again, such as "I have ... Read review

CIAO The Yehoshua Tree 13th review
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by CrutcHead

Advantages: twas something else amongst all U2 albums and blessed are the fruits of its groove Joshua
Disadvantages: just another doze of some Irish "silliness" ? accd to snobs

...HOLY WRIT (ie. THE BIBLE) THE JOSHUA TREE came about in the period during in my more deeper and serious search with the truth and the things of God, as a young ruddy 15 year old (the very same age when these guys started to form their band), the album have come about as a personal companion of sorts to serve as a certain compass or guide that I cited during in those days, more than any other record album that ever came into being, and perhaps more ... Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by markhobbs

Advantages: U2's first classic album,a milestone record.Best of the eighties
Disadvantages: A lotb of people are either 80s or 90s U2people,so not everyone will appreciate it.

...and leg warmers of course)The Joshua Tree.It was U2's first classic and arguably their best work to date.Spawning from a time long before they were introduced to the perks of the rock industry,it's certainly their most honest. The first song Where the Streets Have No Name,is an upbeat opener. It gradually climbs up to the required pace and Bono begins to sing about going out there doing what you want to do and being free. Running to Stand Still
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by AdamCristos

Advantages: A Classic!
Disadvantages: none

Undoubtedly the album that pushed U2 into the limelight, however I cannot class a single album as my favourite, is their best tracks are scattered across their career. Spanning ballad and light rock, listening to this album makes you realised just how good U2 are and the fact that they have managed to retain this level of quality all these years is amazing! Three huge hits opening this album, and the quality of the tracks does not diminish through ... Read review

There's only a couple of classic albums- this is one
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by TomHolt

Advantages: Too many
Disadvantages: None

The Joshua Tree seems to be the album which most people have heard about. Released as a follow up to The Unforgettable Fire it was their biggest selling album, going platinum within 48 hours of its release. The album starts off with Where the streets have no name, which is a perfect start to an album. 'Streets' is one of the albums greats and a definate crowd pleaser with its fast beat and strong bass line, completed with Edges guitar and Bono's vocals. ... Read review

Disadvantages: none

(excuse me for my english,i want to be better..) This is the U2's sixth alcum, and is the most beautiful album i've hever herad of this irish band. The date in wich was released is 1986,and with it u2 became famous in the usa,and became the most famous rock band in the world,in the 80's. The first song,"where the streets have no name"is a song of freedom,in wich Bono is tehe best, and he sing about the freedom of him and another person. The edge ... Read review

U2's finest hour
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by aether3089

Advantages: Vocals & guitar are very strong, first three tracks are brilliant
Disadvantages: Some of the later tracks lack as much impact as earlier ones

It was hard for me to believe that this was U2's sixth album, being born in 1989, I only came to appreciate it recently when I properly got into music. It's just that U2 have managed to get such a new, fresh and interesting sound on this album that I think no bands have managed to emulate. Hearing "Where The Streets Have No Name" earlier on Kerrang! radio was like a wave of fresh air, it just made me feel so happy even though the song may have negative ... Read review

They wouldn't be U2 without it
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by Conna

Advantages: A history making album, for a Legendary Band
Disadvantages: released in 1987, too old for some people

...didn't change until 1987 when Joshua Tree was launched, it was a big seller and still is today. It features some of their greatest tracks including With or Without you, a very religious and moving song. Where the streets have no name about the state of Africa and I Still Havent Found What Im Looking For, still played very regularly on most big radio stations. It is an easy album to listen to as there is no real heavy songs. It is actually quite ... Read review

U2's definitive album
Review of Joshua Tree, The - U2 by moraghewat

Advantages: It's a Classic
Disadvantages:

...it has to be The Joshua Tree. This album, released in 1987, is quite simply outstanding. Every track is a classic, and you know you're in for a treat from the opening bars of "Where the Streets have no Name". This album features their best work, with tracks such as "With or Without You" and "I still Haven;t Found What I'm Looking For". The test of a great album is its longevity. The Joshua tree is now 13, and seems every bit as fresh in 2000 as it ... Read review
