Advantages: Flawless song-writing, a unique talent from the off Disadvantages: Her voice won't appeal to everyone
...songs featured here on The Kick Inside were written while she was a teenager and this includes the chart topping single Wuthering Heights, which had been released as a single prior to the album. It established Kate as not only a unique talent but one who may even turn out to be indispensable. Wuthering Heights was the first ever Number 1 UK single to be both written and performed by a female artist, an achievement not to be scoffed at. I’m sure we’ve ... ...a child.
The closing The kick inside is also of astonishingly high quality. Again, there is little more than Kate with a her piano but it is ever so poignant, you can almost see the piano keys rolling and beckoning you to become one with the song.
The entire album has an almost dream like quality to it and Kate’s magical voice evokes thousands upon thousands of emotions as one track runs into the next. If you’ve heard and enjoyed Wuthering Heights ...

Advantages: She'll keep you well entertained! Disadvantages: Some songs may be a bit rough.
Kate released 'The Kick Inside' in 1978 way before I was born. Looks like I missed out the most greatest opportunity to rush out and buy this album!! This album is outstanding infact. This is the type of music I would like to see out in the charts. Unfortunately times have changed and we get more teeny boppers taking club music and awful pop music to the top of the charts. None of it is hardly sensational. Seems like the same old thing every week. ... ...charts. Her debut album, The Kick Inside, was also released the following month and sold over one million copies in Britain. I bet you're thinking 'Wow.' Well, it is 'wow' Kate was massive and still is massive with her many loyal fans. Including myself. As you can see the album shot Kate into the limelight and she produced many more albums after. I bought this album after I got a taste of 'Hounds of Love,' and 'The Red Shoes.' I was fascinated by ...

...album for any artist "The Kick Inside" is a remarkable effort for an 18 year old. Combining as it does mature lyrics, beautiful melodies and an otherworldly quality it heralded the arrival of a major talent on the British music scene. Kate Bush was discovered at fifteen by Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame. Contracted to EMI they kept her under wraps for three years while she developed her voice, dance and mime skills and honed her music. Many others express her belief in the supernatural and the esoteric such as "Strange Phenomena" which explores inexplicable coincidences and "Them Heavy People" which lists some of her spiritual influences. Bush is an accomplished pianist and is heard on nearly all the tracks. ...

...most astonishing fact concerning "The Kick Inside "is that it was written and performed by an 18 year old girl, who had never made a record before ,think about that for a minute then transform that circumstance to todays reality pop fodder full of 18 year old girls who could barely play the recorder ,seen from that perspective "The Kick Inside " is a monumental achievement and a worthy start to a much deserved long and credible career ...

...on the release of "The Kick Inside".
When you heart the opening strangled seagulls (echoes of Pink Floyd's "Echoes") that introduce you to "Moving" you know you're in for something different. This is a work of great beauty, and everyone who knows the album has their own favourites but it is a total aural delight.
The album spawned several singles, "Wuthering Heights", "The Man With The Child in His Eyes" (apparently written when she was 14) and ... ...Heights" is a masterpiece, and one of the most unusual song formats ever put together. (I 've sung it a la China Drum - thrash band from South Shields - myself so I know how difficult it is).
Although the album is over twenty years old it still sounds as fresh today as on it's first release.
As well as writing all the song , the cover concept was by Kate as well. I'm amazed that she's managed to keep herself private , and continually produce excellent ...

The style is very similar for this entire album (released in 1978), and is true early Bush, she was only a teenager after all. EMI invested in her from an early age, recognising her talent. It is obvious now that they made an invise investment, and you should invest in this album if you want to hear what KB came from, to eventually evolve and produce the album Aerial.

This is a powerful debut album. It contains many gems from Kate, many of which were written in her early to late teens. Discovered and helped by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame who went on to produce this album. It opens with the haunting 'Moving' which ends to the sound of whales singing as it drifts into 'Saxaphone song'. Kate has had a very theatrical upbringing which is portrayed all through her career and none more so than on tracks like 'Man ...
