Advantages: Full of classic songs. Disadvantages: Some songs sound better live.

This is the self-titled debut album, which was released the 18 February 1974 on Casablanca records. The best it got on the American charts was #87, sad really as this is a fantastic album, especially a good debut album. When you pick up this album/CD the first thing you will notice is the cover ~ the four band members are pictured, wearing their makeup ~ Ace Frehley (Lead guitarist) as Space Ace, Peter Criss (Drummer) ... ...a sought after piece of Kiss merchandise when these were produced for fans. This track is much better live, it sounds quite slow on the studio version.
4th Track is Cold Gin. This was written by Ace Frehley, but sung by Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley as Ace lacked the confidence to sing at this stage of his career. Advantages: Classic tracks Disadvantages: some space fillers
Kiss had been performing shows for some time before they cut their first vinyl. With the benefit of hindsight, you can now see that they split their live show repertoire across 2 albums with some space-fillers on each one.
This album contains the better tracks of course, with the likes of 'Firehouse', 'Deuce' and 'Black Diamond' present, all of which are Kiss show classics.
Some of the let-down tracks include 'Love Theme from Kiss', which is basically ... ...normally see the light of day in the live performance, such as 'Let Me Know' and 'Kissin' Time' which are excellent!
This album, along with 'Hotter Than Hell' make up Kiss' live shows for some 2 years and haven't really aged at all.
Essential for collectors and newcomers alike. ...
