Advantages: Atmospheric and very evocative of the film - matches the vast, sweeping scenery and the darker moments well Disadvantages: A few iffy singing moments, some of the tracks end rather abruptly, not enough flow between tracks
...Tolkien. It seems that the Lord of the Rings was written as an attempted replacement for the old English myths that had been lost with the Norman invasion. It’s a little out of place then, to find the music supplied to this ‘English myth’ to be very Celtic.
Still, let’s be positive: close your eyes, and there are times you can almost see the sweeping scenery that was such a major player in the film. Even disconnected from ... ...in this soundtrack.
I’m very fond of film scores in general precisely because of the mood and emotion they can convey. My absolute favourite is the Gladiator soundtrack, which this doesn’t quite match. Still, The Fellowship of the Ring score is very good, and one I thoroughly enjoy listening to. ...

...score the up and coming Lord of the Rings trilogy. So it was with great surprise when Howard Shore was announced as the films composer. Looking through IMDB.com at Shore’s career he provided music to some high profile films over the past few years. These include Dogma, Se7en, Philadelphia and Existenz. I have been trying to remember what I thought of the score for each of these films and I can’t really remember apart from Se7en as they ... ...the soundtrack yet may be slightly concerned with this fact as lets face it you don’t want to hear a second rate score accompanying the film adaption to one of the greatest literary pieces ever written now do you? Many times during the listening of this soundtrack I was shivering and tingling as the score is spot on. Howard Shore uses a mixture of instruments to bring this soundtrack to life. From the At times it is sinister, then the next ...

I prefer no single musical genre, which allows me to enjoy a vast diversification of music, however one feeling I got when listening to Lord of the rings was... I think I have summed up my opinion. A classic album, which will no doubt be overshadowed by the movie, but I for one, am happy, because it’s already in my music collection. ...

...frames of trilogy of The Lord of Rings but also from his entire artistic career. Completing the musical journey in Middle Earth, the composer continues using the same roughly tactic as the one that followed “Two Towers” with regard to the creation of new subjects. In “Two Towers” we had the subject of Rohan. Here we have the subject of Gondor, that had been used for first time in the Extended version of ”The Fellowship of the Ring”, during Boromir’s ... ...a great part into making Lord of the Rings the magnificent movie that it is. Compared to the Two Towers, the differences are perceptible, as the total result: in the Return of King the repetitions are not intense (as in the Two Towers), whilst the audibility soundtrack is better possible, contrary to the two soundtracks in the trilogy.
I found my self slowly falling in love to this soundtrack, it is so tempting... The musical assessment leaves excellent ...

Advantages: One of the most powerful scores for a long time Disadvantages: I have none
...Howard Shore's score for The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring appeared with its dynamic and powerful score that blew everybody away. Howard Shore has never been considered as an epic composer. Shore was mostly known from his scores for David Cronenberg's films, as well as the equally understated score for Silence of the Lambs, the more religious Dogma, the silly Mrs. Doubtfire and the quirky Ed Wood. So when it was announced that Howard ... ...with links to the The Lord of the Rings page (totally unnecessary and annoying when you just want to listen to the music). The limited editions proffer more extras like movie trailers and stuff like that. There's only one problem with this: the musical content of the CD is exactly the same as in the regular release, causing you to pay almost half as much for this "limited release" as you would for a regular album (nothing by a money-making scam). ...

...so here goes.
The Lord Of The Rings is an epic of immense proportions, in the world of both cinema and literature, but these two sountracks that accompany the films are also massive achievements, and deserve all the praise that is being lauded upon them. Both soundtracks are written for full orchestra as the underscore for the films, so it is not a soundtrack full of trendy artists contributing their cast-offs, such as the soundtracks to American ... ...composer is Howard Shore, who also produces the music and conducts the orchestra. As you may expect from an orchestra, the music is oozing with emotion and expressive playing, and it is hugely varied. There is the dark sinister rumblings of Khazad-Dum to the lilting strings of Rivendell, the scale of mood is wide indeed. There are also appearences from Enya, Icelandic troubadour Emiliana Torrini
and folk singer Sheila Chandra.

...no arguing that the 'The Lord of the Rings' is a classic film. A thrilling, strong plot with amazing effects and such like. The soundtrack accompanying the film works very well, but how does it stand up by itself?
Listening to the soundtrack, you are reminded of certain events in the film that accompanied the scores. This is part of the purpose of a soundtrack, and this one certainly fulfills the criteria. The bouncy sound of the second track is ... ...(it accompanies Gandelf returning to the shire near the beginning). The last few tracks, one featuring a choir and another Enya ('May it Be') are also very good pieces of music. The middle of the soundtrack, though, blends together. To me, most of the tracks on this album are unoriginal, repetitive and *very* loud (they work very well when watching a battle in the film, but for independent listening are quite annoying). Certainly some of the tracks ...

Advantages: awesome music, some of the best instrumentals out today Disadvantages: none
this is one of the greatest scores for any movie out today. it includes some of the world's greatest artists including sir james galway on flute as well as other featured musicians. the bold, powerful music of the film loses nothing when observed on its own without the images. the expressiveness of the score is of a quality rarely seen today. though there is a repetitive theme throughout the various tracks this was necessary as it is an accompaniment ...
