Advantages: Amazing song writing, and songs which will stay in your heart. Disadvantages: None
...good bands, were good bands. Love Is Here by Starsailor was released in the fall of 2001 and climbed the UK charts to reach it's peak position of #2. This success meant a lot of celebration for the band, and it was very well deserved. Love Is Here fuses all the emotions of being in love, and the pain we feel when we love someone who we know in our hearts, will never love us back. This is deep song writing, and most of the album seems to be based ... ...having with love. Being in love with two people at the same time, and loving one of them who you know deep down, you can never be with.
Track one is called “Tie Up My Hands”. It begins with an atmospheric acoustic guitar and a bass drum keeping the beat. Walsh’s haunting voice comes in to sing of the woman who remains the theme of the album. The song continues to creepily build up into a more upbeat sound but never really taking off until the end ...

...have made so far “ Love Is Here”, was released on October 8th 2001.
It debuted in the top 40 at a very respectable number 2 and would probably have made the top spot if Kylie hadn’t been around at the time!

11 tracks in total, 11 tracks of hard hitting, nerve tingling, sombre, ecstatic emotions all rolled into one.
James Walsh has the voice of an Angel, pure, powerful and so very unique, his talent and style are ... ...course as it suggests a love song of sorts, a good solid track if you like ballads, but nothing out of the ordinary here and in fact I am actually quite surprised that it was the title track when something like “Fever” would have been far more suitable if you ask me!
It does have some excellent guitar solo’s in it from James and this probably makes up for some of it’s faults, however it certainly is a lot slower than most and quite a calm and soothing ...

...is a collection, not of love songs exactly, but of songs about love in all its forms. Starsailor are the musical equivalent of being softly spoken; all gentle melodies and soft bass, although the band does occasionally raise its voice to make a point as instruments burst from mere backing to take the fore. But make no mistake; the centrepiece of the music is very definitely Walsh’s vocal talent. What is less definite, is how to best describe ... ...best way I have of expressing myself”. Advantages: Sublime lyrics and great musical performance all round Disadvantages: Why the silence and a pointless bit at the end, inlay could be better
Starsailor are a new band who seem to have come out of nowhere to become quite a success. This new album, ‘Love is Here’ must have helped promote them to stardom. This is there debut album and here is what I think of it.
~ History ~
Well not exactly long but I will try my best, being a new band and all. Ok then, Starsailor came into being (complete) at the beginning of 2000 with the arrival of the final band member Barry Westhead. During ... ...etc. As far as I am aware they performed at Glastonbury that year but facts aren’t very clear about that. After this they had record companies knocking at their door to get then to sign, after three months or so they finally signed with EMI: Chrysalis records then things really began to hot up, loads of tours and stuff eventually got them several top 20 singles early this year and then this album coming in at number 2 in the album charts. The ...

Advantages: It's obvious big things are to come. Disadvantages: Not quite as great as it was made out to be,
...of this the debut album, Love is here. The band follow a similar sound to Coldplay with a calming, relaxing sound. However, the album is no where near as impressive as Parachutes, Coldplay’s debut offering but there are signs of big things to come from Starsailor. The album was finally released in October 2001 after 3 singles and spent weeks at number 1 on the album chart, whilst a year later it was still lingering near the bottom of the chart. “I wanna love you but my hands are tied I wanna stay here but I've been denied”
The album opens with “Tie Up My Hands”, which is one of the first tracks I actually liked on the album. The guitar and drums come in from the beginning, with a slow beat building up slowly and fairy quietly. The guitar is probably the best part of this intro with the drum keeping the same beat throughout the song but the guitar varying it nicely. The vocals ...

Advantages: Great music, they can actually play, superb vocals and lyrics, topped off with nice pianos and guitars Disadvantages: Hidden track (what is the point of them?)
Starsailor burst onto the music scene this year with a stunning debut album. From the moment it starts to the end of the 11 tracks the genius and talent of the boys is obvious. Each song could be a greatly successful single, their sound of soft lyrics, smooth guitars and pianos, pure vocals and all tied together with great melodies and a calm finish. Think I like this album. Your right then.
Starsailor are a relatively new band, the current form ... ...from the Northern town of Chorley, and comprise of four members. James Walsh is the lead singer, he is a terrific talent, producing smooth polished words to fill the album. Other band members are James Stelfox, Ben Bryne and Barry Waterhead. All songs were written by then band, and in the case of ‘Fever’ produced by them as well. The majority of the tracks though were produced by Steve Osborne. The album was released by Chrysalis and ...

Advantages: Ideal for lying in the sun with a loved one- or in a darkened room on your own.. Disadvantages: 5 songs previously released in one form or another so possibly not the best value for existing fans.
Right, first the legal stuff. You may or may not be aware that it is now law that any writings about Starsailor must contain all of the following words:- Tim, Jeff, Nick, Neil and Van. Optional extras include Angst, Verve, Mercury (in conjunction with award, not stiff flamboyant front man) and Coldplay. So with the lawyers satisfied let’s get on with the review.
A brief history:- Starsailor are four lads from the Lancashire town of Chorley. ... ...quite near Preston, and 2) It sounds a bit like seminal children’s TV village “Chigley”. All in all not exactly Las Vegas (in fact not exactly Chigley.) They are also named after a Tim Buckley album (aha- see above) and they ARE heavily influenced by the other names mentioned. (For those who don’t know the missing surnames are Buckley Mk2, Drake, Young and Morrison- a promising firm of estate agents if ever there was one.)

Although Love Is Here, Starsailor's anxious, soulful folk and urban blues nuanced inaugural album will be less of a culture shock to any scene-follower who experienced, say, Tom McRae's debut from 2000, it will certainly jolt the core beliefs and common cultural values of the British indie scene. Nothing about Starsailor is remotely alternative--at least not in the conventional interpretation of the word--nor perfunctorily fashionable or juvenescent. ... ...Chapman. Debut or no debut, Love Is Here is an assured classic, the exposition of impending mid-life crises and buttoned-up desperation (typical lyric: "I need to be alone while I suffer") conveyed through an impassioned and distinctly non-rock lexicon of shuffling jazz percussion, metronomic acoustic guitars and keyboards which veer--Ray Manzarek style--between decorative cocktail piano and ice rink organ (courtesy of former crematorium organist ...

Advantages: Catchy, tuneful, great singer Disadvantages: Will it last?
I really like this album: all the tracks are good, the singles are brilliant and the guy's singing is fantastic.
Alcholic (their most famous song) is one of the best songs of last year: haunting is the only word I can think of. The other singles you'll know, and there'll be no surprises - there's nothing massively different from what you'd expect if you've heard the singles.
The best way to describe the music if you've never heard Starsailor is ... ...like Radiohead (a similarly introspective group): there's no tracks with minutes of samples and noise. Also, there's a more relaxed feel about it than, say, Coldplay.
To be honest I don't know much about the band or their background, but it is obvious that the singer (James Walsh) is the dominant force. His voice is very powerful: he's very in control of his singing and yet able to sound tormented when he wants to. It suits the mellow, slightly ...

LOVE IS HERE
Well its here!!The long awaited Starsailor album, and its well worth the wait!
The album contains their chart topping singles Alcholic,Lullaby and Fever, aswell as superb unheard material. If you liked any of their singles, dont be afraid to go out and buy the album, you wont be disappointed. Its packed full of accoustic ballads and bursting with gutsy guitar melodies.
Like a well worn pair of jeans, you put on the C.D and slip into some ... ...playing it over and over again, and still cant get enough.Surely, this must be a number one contender for the album chart.Keep it coming Starsailor, you certainly float my boat.
I give this a stonking 10/10 for song content.
If you like Coldplay and Turrin Brakes you will love this too. ...

...But you'll be able to love or hate this CD within the first four and a half minutes. Because Starsailor have such a unique sound, their songs do not sound like they vary much, and therefore can sound monotonous. Which is okay if you love them, and not so great if you don't. It's hard to get past the general whining tone if you don't appreciate Starsailor for their diverse style. (And when I say diverse, I mean different, not varied!) In my opinion, ...
