Advantages: Beautiful lyrics, smooth vocals Disadvantages: Not as commercial as her previous releases which meant less people heard it
I could never say that I have ever been a huge Sade fan. I will happily listen to her music if it happens to be on, but I would never deliberately go looking for one of her CD's. That was until she came back from a self imposed break of eight years, and released 'Lover's Rock', which was lapped up by her fans who had waited eagerly for her return, and there are few singers who would be able to manage that, especially without bowing down to the present ... ...every track on the album, so they all have that personal touch. I don't know if it just came along at the right time for me, or whether I had matured enough to start and appreciate her talent, but whatever it was, this was certainly one of my best albums for 2000, which was also the year I became a mum, and this was the only CD which would get my daugher off to sleep when she was a baby. Advantages: Smoother than a triple-blade shave Disadvantages: No Saxophone from Stuart Matthewman!

Matthewman's influence is un-mistakeable however, his sexy saxophone playing seems to have taken a sabbatical on this particular album.
If Sade flicks your switch, this is a great album for a top-up. For the first-time-buyer, it is the perfect start to take a ride of retrospect and discover why you never bought any of her earlier material. ...

Sade always seemed to me to be one of those performers who should have stopped at one (album, that is). Diamond Life was such a difficult act to follow, and later albums, didn't, to my way of thinking cut the mustard.
Sade has had to bear the brunt of various dubious titles - "The Best Backing Singer Ever To Make Her Own Album" etc. This is not an opinion I endorse, and I am happy to say that, having bought Lover's Rock, more for old time's sake ...
