Advantages Advantages My favourite Beatles soundtrack and bursting with energy

Disadvantages Disadvantages There are a couple of dud moments...

Hello all and welcome to the third Beatlemania month to ever grace your computer screens! I know, I know, you’ve probably heard enough about my love for the Fab Four by now. Alas, I’m still listening to them and haven’t reviewed all of their albums (yet!) so just sit tight and enjoy June for what it is: a wonderful sunny month (fingers crossed) with the Beatles thrown in for good measure. It has to be said that up until the bitter end of 1967, it seemed as if everything The Beatles touched turned to gold: from their unprecedented success both in the UK and in America, it seemed as if the band ... more

Advantages Advantages It's a Beatles record, of course!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rather short on playing time

In a sense, the Beatles' 'Magical Mystery Tour' was the follow-up to 'Sergeant Pepper', being initially released six months later in December 1967. However it began its life, in the UK, in the then-unique format of a double 7" EP with 24-page booklet of photos and lyrics. As there was no longer a separate chart for conventional EPs, let alone mavericks like a double EP, for sales purposes it was counted as a (more costly) single, charting at No. 2 and only kept from No.1 by the group's 'Hello Goodbye'. In the US, it was issued as an album with its six tracks on one side and the group's ... more

Advantages Advantages A great collection of songs.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very short.

AWAY IN THE SKY, beyond the clouds, live 4 or 5 magicians. By casting WONDERFUL SPELLS they turn the Most Ordinary Coach Trip into a MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR. If you let yourself go, the Magicians will tkae you awya to marvellous places. Maybe YOU'VE been on a MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR without even realising it. Are you ready to go? SPLENDID! So starts the booklet for "Magical Mystery Tour". For those not in the know, "Magical Mystery Tour" started off as a (not very good really) 50 minute fil made for television. Originally it was Paul's own baby project, but pretty soon it was the jurisdiction of all ... more

Advantages Advantages Sheer brilliance from, unarguably, the greatest band of all time.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Under-rated :-(

It was all Paul's fault really. The "Magical Mystery Tour" was his brainchild; an allegedly fool-proof plan for making the next Beatles film. Get a group of people together, put them in a tourbus, drive around for a bit and film what happens. The only problem was that, unfortunately, nothing really happened. The band wore silly costumes, and that's about as good as it gets. This resulted in a truly rubbish film, which tarnished The Beatles reputation and left many believing that they were past their best. I say: don't let the film get in the way of the music. Put it this way: what's the best ... more

Advantages Advantages Several all time classics numbers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not really a proper album, more a collection

The thing that attracted me to the fab fours music was just that - their music. It's in the tunes - their lyrics are good, sometimes brilliant, sometimes mediocre. But the tunes, compositions and harmonies are the best I've heard. Its magic to my ears. Though this album was seemingly flung together almost as an afterthought to coincide with the apparently dire film of the same name, it contains several stunners. Notably Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, I Am the Walrus and All You Need is Love. The best of the rest is probably Flying which is all four chaps la la'ing a really catchy tune ... more
