...to the anthem that is Master of Puppets this is a force to be reckoned with. Burton powers everything home, Hammet curls out demonic riff after riff, Hetfield is , well, a god and Lars drumming holds the hold show together. I consider this to be the only runaway success of Metallica’s career - this was the pinnacle of their greatness - indeed, their only real moment of true greatness. In the early days the vocals were too horrible to stand - nowadays every element of their music is too horrible to stand. This was the middle ground. It opens with a deceptive gentle acoustic intro to the stomping track, Battery. As soon as you put it into your stereo it lulls you into a false sense of security and then suddenly with the main riff of battery it hits you like a punch in the face!
