Advantages: Mega all the way through Disadvantages: None
This is the album that really set the standard for aspiring metal guitarists. Hetfield's rhythym playing is like nothing that was heard before - fast downstrokes virtually all the way through the album, quick chord changes and timing shifts were never so concentrated. Not only is the music technically difficult to play, it sounds so harsh, catchy and aggressive too.
Metallica had sounded original with their previous albums, but this record was totally ... ...Ratt, Cinderella etc) seem dated and, well, a bit silly.
If you like metal and don't own this album, get it.
It's a real pity that the band sold out by going to Bob Rock for later productions. If they hadn't sold out, they might still be making music that comes close to this. Sadly, they went rubbish. Sorry. ...

Advantages: great atmospherical music Disadvantages: not sutable for children
This album represents the pinnacle of Metallica's musical creativity. Forget their recent 'commercialised' watered down version of metal. This album has so many fresh ideas from the excellent title track to the awesome instrumental.
Lyrically it is fairly standard heavy metal with a few thought provoking tracks, but it's the music that makes you want to listen more.

I would highly reccommend this album to anyone who is already into the genre or someone who is just starting to listen.
its great for all types of ages and there isnt a set type of personality you have to have top listen to metallica. although i would recoment that using this album to listen to while there are small and young children around would not be a fantastic idea because it can be scary and not very sutable for young ...

...by james' roar.
2. Master Of Puppets - Mega fast all the way through fantastic dislpay of unique guitar playing and a near impossible solo. perhaps the best ever metallica song. the lyrics go really deep, they are about addictions.
3. Thing That Should Not Be - Slower song but extremely heavy, doesnt stand out too much from the other songs but is worth listening too. one of the heaviest songs u'll hear from metallica.
4. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) ... ...great songs on the album. the lyrics are haunting and will make you think. the guitars are a blend of clean and distorted sounds.
5. Disposable Heroes - This is probably the worst song on the album yet it is still a great song. A fast song with good lyrics. i am not too keen on the chorus though, they could have done a lot better on this song.
6. Leper Messiah - A pretty well balanced song it is a tiny bit repetitive but the good music and lyrics ...

Advantages: Great Album Disadvantages: Cliff Burtons last
What to expect As all early Metallica, the songs combine the adrenaline-rush of speed metal, hard hitting guitars, and great lyrics. The difference with "MOP" is seen in the band's progression lyrically and structurally. James began layering more guitars, to create a darker, moodier feel. Some of Kirk's solos have multiple guitar parts. The songs have longer instrumental or ambient intros. In all "MOP" represented the maturing of Metallica, which ... ...of the best metal albums. Best Tracks Really - The whole album. -"Battery", with a multilayered (5) guitar intro with a Spanish guitar feel, then rockets into an ultra heavy tune. -"Master of Puppets" - basicly Metallica owns you. Although there is actually a much deeper meaning - all the songs on the album are lyrically complex as well as instrumentally complex. -"Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" -"Damage Inc" which throws a little instrumental feel at ...

Advantages: Amazing Thrash Metal Album, Well Produced For The Era Disadvantages: May Not Apeal To Fans Of Metallica's Later Releases, i.e Load, Re-Load, St. Anger
This album is definatley one of my all time favourites. The album kicks off with the acoustic guitar intro in 'Battery' that soon changes when the Mesa Amplifiers blast and change the track into pure energy. The next track on the album is 'Master Of Puppets', This has the distinctive intro that you instantly know, again another very energetic song, however it has a very nice melodic breakdown with guitar harmonies int he middle of the track. 'The ... ...is a very thrashy rhythm based track. 'Welcome Home (Sanitarium)' is the next track, a very melodic track for the first half of the song with excellent lyrics, then it bursts into pure thrash for the second half with an amazing guitar solo. 'Disposable Heroes' is again another very thrashy track, with a simlilar theme to the track 'One' off the album ...And Justice For All. 'Leper Messiah' Classic blow-your head off thrash. 'Orion' Is an excellent ...

Master Of Puppets sees Cliff Burtons Final work with the band and EASILY gives the listner of the power that this band once had,
Some may argue that they still hold that power in another form today but Master of Puppets is held dearly in the hearts of Metallica accross the globe.
Track listing is as follows:
1. Battery
2. Master of Puppets
3. The Thing That Should Not Be
4. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
5. Disposable Heroes

Advantages: Metal Legends best album ever Disadvantages: Overplayed throughout the metal community
...we get the title track Master of Puppets. I've heard a few different meanings for the lyrics of this one, yet the most obvious is it's link to drugs. Heroin most likely. It describes the effects of being totally controlled by the addiction. Hmm should i really be promoting this album... ?? most definately as it rocks harder than.. er.. um.. a rock?
Probably the other ultimate track on this album would be Orion. An instrumental like none other. All ... ...a few tricks from the masters. As far as technical abilties go it is obvious that Metallicas guitarist Hammett was given a few pointers by the worlds greatest Joe Satriani.
Well.. thats enough really.. buy it.. buy it now!!! Play it as loud as your system allows you and totally destroy the world as we know. ...

Advantages: Welcome Home. Hardcore in its heyday. Disadvantages: Unlike the more recent Metallica stuff. Metallica vs Napster.
...Rocks!” as their summary of Master of Puppets.
In this case and I imagine that this is a rare instance, it is rather difficult to add any worthwhile extra comments. Master of Puppets falls firmly between Metallica’s hardcore roots and this more recent phase of turning out more melodious and MTV friendly tunes. As a result of this, on the album you will find tracks that start off as the mean to go on – with violent thumping of the guitar. You will ... ...you only have Metallica’s more recent music and you are thinking of expanding your collection into the back catalogue (in pre Metallica Black/Metallica) they have available then you really should consider Master of Puppets as being the first one you buy. Master of puppets is definately the best thing that Metallica has ever done. Unfortunately this was the last album that Cliff Burton played bass on before his tragic death. The album has but eight tracks but stil manages to push your stereos speakers for over an hour. All the tracks are consistantly amazingly high quality metal and there is not one flaw to the album whatsoever. The album is definately a must have for any fans of classic metal music. ...

Advantages: Master of Puppets Disadvantages: costs alot
Metallica’s third album follows Ride the Lightening rather more than Kill ‘em All, fortunately for Metallica. The album opens with the gentle opening of the heavy song, Battery. This shows flashbacks of the former, thrash metal, Metallica. The bass of Cliff Burton is fantastic throughout the album, a fitting tribute, just before his death. The song of quite thrashy, not the best, but a great opener.
This is followed by the title track, ... ...but this is not a symbol of what is to come. The song continues to get better throughout, with a long instrumental bit in the middle. This song is a classic, almost a reason to own the album in itself.
The Thing That Should Not Be a great track, but not really a touch of Puppets. This track is heavy, and perhaps too slow. Still a great song though. Welcome Home (Sanatarium) is another good track, which I guess is about mental patients. The song ...
