Advantages: A return to the Ash of old Disadvantages: Possibly one poorer track
The return of Ash was always going to be sticky ground as far as I was concerned. I’d liked Nu-Clear Sounds and 1977 but Free All Angels didn’t really do anything for me. It lacked any real sense of purpose with far too many mellow tracks. It’s not that I’m against mellower tracks; I just didn’t expect an album full from Ash. I decided not to write them off totally though as I’d heard a couple of tracks from the album and liked the sound of them.

...all the CDs on offer Meltdown drew my eye and here’s my review……..
To me most of Ash’s albums have consisted of about 2 or 3 great tracks that really stick in my head (like Burn Baby Burn and Shining light on Free All Angels) and the rest are still good but are the type that you can just listen to without really thinking about them too deeply. ...Ash’s fourth studio album entitled Meltdown and if you’ve liked their previous stuff then I’m glad to say that it doesn’t disappoint.
The record opens with ‘Meltdown’. It’s a good indication of what to expect, this is going to be the record where ash turn up the amps to 11 and rock. All the familiar sounds are here from rumbling bass and drums, angst and a wailing guitar solo. Great stuff but by no means the best track on the album,
