Advantages: A big, cheesy, funky party album.
Disadvantages:

This is the album on which, many people will try to convince you, Beck tries to be Prince. Apart from a couple of tracks (the sleazy, squelch of Nicotine & Gravy, the falsetto wailing of Debra) I can't really see it, myself. Anyway, no self-respecting artist would admit to ripping off Prince these days. Beck's latest album (at the time of writing) shows that there is nobody out there that can even come close to rivaling him. He once again proves he is top dog, coming across both more sleazy and funky on this album. From the opening track Sexx Laws, on which he screams "I wanna define, the logic of our sex laws" to the final track Debra " I wanna get with you, and your sister, I think her name is Debra". After hearing the single 'Sexx Laws' at the begin of 2000, I immediately bought 'Midnite Vultures'. I was pleasantly surprised by the full cd: I don't think there is any album with a content like this: there's soul, hiphop, electronic music, rock, ... I think everybody without listening restrictions (eg 'i only listen to funk and jazz') can like this. The lyrics are also very original: they are most of the time about sex, love and sometimes ... Beck is one of those very talented artists who manages to make great songs and still gain huge appeal without comercialising his work. Midnight Vultures must rate as one of the best albums of recent times. The singles from the album do stand out, but all tracks are strong. Disadvantages: Not enough 'Mixed Business' style tracks

Beck's latest offering serves up another cool blend American indie mixed in with some pure funk. And Beck is the only guy that can do it so well. From the definitely up-tempo singles, 'Sexx Laws' and 'Mixed Business', to the more laid back tunes that we all know and love, all done perfectly. Sadly, 'Sexx Laws' and 'Mixed Business' really do stand head and shoulders above the rest, and it's a shame Beck didn't really expand on the style, and played ... Read review

To be honest, I bought this album as it was on special offer. I am very glad that I did. The highlights of this album, for me were the singles 'Sexx Laws' and 'Mixed Bizness'. In my humble opinion, Mixed Bizness is one of the best songs that I have heard for quite a while (or I just don't know very many songs!). I remember sitting there and thinking 'what is this?', 'wow!'. I think that pretty much says it all. I defy anyone to say otherwise. It is one of those albums which is guarenteed to make you smile.
