...7/10.
Track 14. The miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
And now to a jazzy backing and vocal, with a soulful blend, an 'old record' scratchy sound deliberately included, kinda works. Very diva like vocals, great piano, showcase of her voice, love it. 9/10.
Bonus track (14.) Can't take my eyes off of you.
To a very Fugees' hip hop beat, really works, takes a cheesy classic and makes it modern and funky, some great vocals, yet again. Another massive foot ... ...period. 9/10.
Bonus track (15). Sweetest thing.
Clearly time in the studio, or trying to sound like it. Very soulful, very 'nice' almost sung like a prayer. Sounds a bit like Aretha Franklin, but smoother. 8/10
Overall, the thing I like most about this album is the 'cleverness' of it all. It does not stick to Soul, or R&B, or hip hop, or rap, or funk; it has a bit of everything. Musically and vocally, probably one of the best and strongest 10 ...

...not buy the CD 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' until two years after its 1998 release. A beautiful, slow piece which reminds me of the great female Blues singers of the last century with a sparkling piano accompaniment. Can't Take My Eyes Off You' is a resounding and singalong rendition of this holiday hotel foyer classic. Track 16 - NB Another treat not listed on the CD cover which ...

...but about her album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill". This record was out on 1998 and I bought it straightaway. I liked her in the Fugees but I find that on her own she's much better. The cd's cover is quite original. The front is a school desk with a pencil, as if you were going to write something leaning on the cd. The album has 16 songs. I can't find one I don't like, they are all fantastic. Each song has a different message: love, self-esteem, ... ...good bass rythm.
14. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill: This one gives the title to the album. It's recorded so it sounds like an old disc. This one tells you that she found strength inside herself, she decided to follow her own path. It is slow, with a piano and some string instruments.
"But deep in my heart, the answer it was in me
And I made up my mind to define my own destiny."
15. Can't take my eyes off of you: I adore this remake! You will ...

Advantages: Intelligent, inspiring - and Lauryn's voice is beautiful Disadvantages: Strange talking bits inbetween songs
This is probably the most treasured CD in my music collection. I was way to young (8 years old) to appreciate or even know about Lauryn when this album first came out, but after hearing a couple of her songs (Doo Wop and Ex Factor) a few years ago I decided to find this album and give it a go. Thank god I did. It's one album I can listen to all the way through, over and over again, and every time I'm struck by it's intelligence, originality and the ... ...comment on is the rather strange snippets of kid's talking to Wyclef inbetween some of the songs which can be a bit annoying, but skipping these you have an amazing record. Some of my favourite songs of the album :- Ex-Factor : Probably my favourite song on the CD, in fact probably one of my favourite songs ever. It's a heartwrenching tale of a love that just seems to hurt; Lauryn's vocals are flawless and so packed with emotion it makes me emotional ...

This honestly is a fantastic album. The woman really can sing and she's put her heart and soul into this. She's got a beautiful, powerful voice and because she's written the songs herself they really come alive. I can't imagine anyone not liking this album, it's got everything. It's more gentle than her earlier stuff with the fugees and really easy to listen to. But if you do like it i would recommend that you listen to her early fugees stuff too, ... ...and more "tough" but there are songs on the THE SCORE that are just as beautiful as those on her solo album. Killing me softly for example has got just as much magic and there's also a lot more humour on the score. LAST OF ALL, have you heard the beautiful duet she's done with santana on his latest album called put your lights down low. it's lovely. take a listen. ...

I have always been a big fan of Lauryn Hill and when this album came out I had to buy it. She has a terrific voice and her songs but as a solo artists and with the ‘Fugees’ were excellent. It was with the Fugees that she made her song, ‘Killing me Softly’ was excellent and it was going to be her platform for her future success. The Miss Education of Lauryn Hill is very good, some excellent tracks and the reggae tune once famous ... ...that song ‘Doo Wop (That Thing) which was a big hit and it’s track 5 on the album really gets you in the mood. Upbeat and excellent to listen to. It’s catchy and that’s why I think it’s enjoyable. My friend loves the song ‘Ex-factor’ nothing to do with Max factor it’s different more slow and something more softer. A good song nevertheless. The album is mainly Hip Hop and Reggae if you like her singles ...

...Marley, her solo album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’, is filled to the brim with great raggae tunes and slow meaningful ballads.
There’s songs that make you wanna get up and dance like ‘Doo Wop, that thing’, then really nice love song ballads like ‘Ex-Factor’. Her hip-hop R&B style album is brilliant, and if you like just one of her songs, you’ll love the whole record! This is a fantastic album and if you like soul then you’ll love this album. This album was album of the year in 1998 and is likely to be remembered as a genuine classic. This album is essential to own and add to your CD album collection.

Lauryn Hill has also done some good tracks with the ‘Fugees’ such as ‘Ready Or Not’, ‘Fu-Gee-La’ and ‘Killing Me Softly’. Fugee's album 'The Score' is a must have album as well.

How could anyone not like this album? It grooves along with hardly a bum note. The singles 'ex-factor' and 'doo wop that thing' are here which are both brilliant in their own ways. My personal favourite is one of the two hidden tracks - a re-working of Andy Williams' 'can't take my eyes off you'. It sounds strange but it is really well done. Hill's vocals are, as ever, perfect and there are some guest appearances from greats such as mary j blige, ...

Advantages: Brilliant lyrics that capture the heart Disadvantages: None
There is only one word that can be used to describe this album, sublime. That is what it well and truly is. In the Fugees we saw a young lady with a fantastic voice, in this album, a solo instalment we see that Miss Hill is a very talented individual. She sings songs that hit home straight with soulful lyrics and tasteful beats. She really is a gifted person; this is the sort of album that you will be listening to until your old age. Advantages: album featuring a very versatile artist offering a wide variety of songs Disadvantages: tends to have become a bit commercial
I think Lauryn Hill is a great woman and musician who has accomplished many great things. One of them being this album, the first solo album by the former Fugee. The lyrics in her music focus on both her life, especially the birth of her child, and a couple of social concerns about the present and future. Lauryn Hill is so versatile and flexible, sometimes she sings loudly and intensely, the next moment she sounds soft and almost ‘angelic’. The raps ...
