A penny for your thoughts, my dear?
Review of Misplaced Childhood [Remastered] - Marillion by steerpyke

Advantages: second generation prog rock at its best
Disadvantages: concept albums are not to all tastes

Many people know of Marillions work, especially their early work by the singles Kayleigh and Lavander, and although they are both contained on this album, are not totally representative of this album, or the bands work in general. As is often the case the works that become popular by lesser known bands are the ones which break that bands particular mould. Although not typical of their work these two singles raised the profile of the band and enabled ... Read review

Fish era Marillion at its best
Review of Misplaced Childhood [Remastered] - Marillion by jacinto

Advantages: Too numerous to mention
Disadvantages: You can't just play one track, when you start you have to finish

...the angst ridden concept album, Misplaced Childhood, Kayleigh and Lavender were very much business as usual. From the haunting synth intro to Pseudo Silk Kimono, to the hate filled vocals of White Feather, Misplaced Childhood represents arguably the finest Fish era release. The album culminates a lyrical trilogy that began with Script For A Jesters Tear and the personal and soul searching lyrics complimented by the full and complex music make it ... Read review

Do You Remember Kayleigh
Review of Misplaced Childhood [Remastered] - Marillion by ordy

Advantages: Great music
Disadvantages: More commercial than the first 2 albums

This album contains the one song that everyone knows of Marillions - the famous Kayleigh. This is of course a perfectly good song, but the album is packed with great music. It is a concept album and has 2 songs - side 1 and side 2 (it was recorded in the days of vinyl!). My favourate song is Mylo although really the whole album is great. The music is intricate and melodic and the lyrics are, as is the way with Fish, a fascinating read. ... Read review

Finest example of Fish Era Marillion
Review of Misplaced Childhood [Remastered] - Marillion by MattieNE

Advantages: A combination of chart topping (almost) songs and the lyrical and musical depth which only great artists can provide
Disadvantages: This goes for both this and clutching at straws, do not listen if you are on the virge of suicide cos it might just push you over

This was the first album where Marillion gained recognition in the charts, I disagree slightly with the other comment/ review that said the album was buisness as uaual, well to say disagree is probably a bit to strong a word, I agree and disagree. Kayleigh was a very well crafted pop song whilst not disturbing the fabric of the rest of the album, Lavender too whilst not being as sucessful was of a similar vein, these two tracks served a very important ...
