Advantages: Fun! Inventive! Gallic! Disadvantages: None, unless you hate the idea of Techno-Lounge!
I first heard "La Femme d'Argent" on a Q subscribers-only sampler disc, and found its mixture of sixties Lounge and nineties Techno irresistible. Any band incorporating Lounge Music into their style has to have their tongue at least partway into their (own) cheek, and this is confirmed by the cheeky mock-warning on the cover, where the words "French Group" are printed in small letters. So: they know their techno; they're nostalgia buffs; they have ... ...to something worthwhile? Yes! From the relaxed jazz vibe of "La Femme d'Argent", through the sleazy synths of "Sexy Boy", to the cheeky sampling of the Beach Boys' "Do It Again" (I won't name the track - you'll know it when you hear it!), and on through the whole album, this CD's inexhaustible charm, wit and invention makes it a joy to listen to over and over. ...

Advantages: Great Mood music Disadvantages: Remember
'Moon Safari' is perhaps one of the greatest recent so-called 'dinner party' albums. Its ambience places the listener in a state of relaxation, ideal for eating at a hosts where mood is everything. The voice of Beth Hirsch on 'All I Need' and 'You Make It Easy' is the perfect complement to the lush moods and relaxing "vibe". 'Talisman' is just that, something anyone would be proud of. The only slightly suspect track is 'Remember' but then this is only two and a half
minutes long and the beautifully composed 'Ce Matin La' more than makes up for it. It is one of my favourite albums; critics agree and with time, it will be remembered ...

The first half is brilliant, "La Femme d'Argent" and "All I Need" are cool and calming expectedly constructed with skill and style while "Kelly Watch the Stars" is solid proof that voice synthesisers do have a purpose. "Talisman" is darker but no less beautiful and "Sexy Boy" has become synonymous with little cuddly gorillas or Queer As Folk, depending ...
