Often described as a small sleepy harbour town in South Devon, Teignmouth (pronounced ... ...with less syllables). Black Holes and Revelations is not, as one reviewer recently claimed, lyrically 'tongue in cheek' nor is it over-rated as its recent nomination for a Mercury Music Award would allude to …what it is however is an often very dark, highly political, highly incensed, progressive rock guitar and retro 80's synthesizer offering of extreme magnitude all rolled into one. Supermassive Black Hole: This has to be classed as one of the best songs on the album, and is their most commercially successfully single to have been released at this point in time reaching number four in the UK charts. This song is very very well produced, with unusual but fantastic lyrics. Map Of The Problematique: This excellent song reached number 18 in the UK charts. It is a rather bleak but very accomplished song with an excellent ... ...Another of the songs from black holes released as a single is the song invincible. This is a beautiful and hopeful song. Matt Bellamy apparently believes this to be the heart of the album. Some could argue that it is relatively tame and dull for a muse song, but I disagree I find it to have lovely lyrics and an equally lovely melody. Black Holes and Revelations, Muse's fourth full-length effort, can only be described as overindulgence to the extreme. The press have already likened it to Radiohead's masterpiece Ok Computer and in all fairness this, like that album for Radiohead is by far Muse's best to date. It's taken the Devonshire band three years to create the follow up to Absolution but even on first listen you can tell it has been worth the wait. With the help of Rich Costey, the man behind Absolution and the latest Franz Ferdinand album, ... ...that's what really has made Black Holes and Revelations stand out amongst all the fantastic albums this year.
If there was one attribute of Muse on the whole that I felt could never be improved on it was Matt Bellamy's vocals. That was until I heard the debut single from this album and it was almost as if Bellamy had found another level to move to lyrically. Super massive black holes, is the first single from the album, and is apparently about how you can get sucked into something superficial before it traps you, then leaves you feeling like it wasn't worth it. A heavy darker sounding guitar based intro before Bellamy's falsetto kicks into overdrive with lyrics laced with excellence. This is a bit of a throw back to when music had to be good to get air time, and is a stand out for the modern ... ...you don’t like you need to get an ear transplant. A catchy lyrical format, a strong musical accompaniment and a deep back story makes this one of the most complete songs you will ever hear. 10/10

Advantages: Shows that Muse are still up there with the best. Disadvantages: Never quite reaches the peaks that 'Absolution' did.
...and surround you with 'Supermassive Black Hole', perhaps the bands most uncharacteristic single release so far, with a pulsating, almost disco back beat and bass line, constantly at war with Matt's lyrics, again a classic track.
'Map of the problematique', a catchy, almost buzzing track races along, and by now you are wondering which direction the album will take next. You could hve tried all day, but you'd have never guessed that the next two tracks ... ...still nowhere near. Black holes and revelations is a superb album, which may not become an instant fave after the first listen, but give it time and I am sure it will become one of your all time favourites. A fantastic piece of work by a band who just seem to keep getting bigger.
Available from £8.99 at all good record dealers (and possibly some of the bad ones too).

Advantages: Huge, rockier tracks Disadvantages: None worthy of mention
...familiar, Starlight and Super Massive Black Hole. These tracks are deep!! The quality of the lyrics is great, and the overlapping vocals really give a richness and a rockiness that I love.
The middle of the album is a mix of styles that seem quite abstract when commented on individually, but really work when heard, and reviewed, together.
Map of the Problematique is slightly too 80's retro for my taste, but the haunting lullaby of Soldier's Poem ... ...a collection of experiences, rather than songs, and each one increases it's merits when you look at it that way.
Invincible leads you into high synth-based drama with real sense of theatre and Assassins has driving rock feel fuelled by pounding guitars.
The journey continues with Exo Politics, which is a track driven by pounding bass and rhythm, but then City of Delusion could fit very well into a Flamenco night!! The variety on the album is huge, ...

...Then entered this album Black holes and revelations. This was released July 2006. With this album Muse decided to go for a new approach, they had a disco vibe to the tracks. The album sold 115,144 copies in its first week in the UK, which was more than the first week sales of Muse's previous album, Absolution. This album 45 minutes 20 seconds long.

...on the album is Supermassive Black hole which will haunt your head for weeks as it is really addictive.
The Lyrics are potent throughout the whole album and inspire rather than depress. Invincible is another great track that makes you feel quite out of place by hearing the disjointed way he sings,
The rest of the album does tend to blend in to the "samey" category but for the first few listenings you wont care as the sound is so fresh. Longer term ... ...the album and it certainly doesnt have the easy listening approach of its predecesors. Tell tale signs of "God not that song again" were rife as i played the tune Hoodoo on my phone for the fith time.
Ahh well, if your friends dont like the repetition why not find some more, because every one who hears this album agrees the sound is exciting and upbeat at first but tends to get tired of it.
This is really quite specialist music and wont be every ...

...single from the album 'Supermassive Black Hole' i was somewhat confused as to what to expect, but after simply realizing its just the band wanting to keep things fresh and moving all of the time, the change shows their imagination and talent are still at top!!
Sometimes people put on relaxing music when they are stressed, or something heavier when they are not and i think that this album covers pretty much every emotion. Acoustic tracks such as ... ...in no time as you listen to the soft melodies where as there are tracks such as 'Assassin' and 'Exo Politics' Which are the complete other end of the boat!! There are also what id call the 'in between' tracks of the album which are neither too heavy or too soft such as 'Starlight' and 'Invincible'.
Overall i would simply say this, If you want a well balanced album from a band who are willing to try something different from what we all hear everyday ...
