...is the definitive song from Nevermind because of its pop elements, grungy vocals and screams, and of course the nihilistic lyrics. What an amazing song this one is… and it’s called '''Lithium'''. '''Track no. 6''' Wow! This is an entirely acoustic song. You can hear some bass parts and some cymbals but in the rest there’s only an acoustic guitar creating some cool yet haunting melody. The voice sounds different and this is because (as I would find ... ...especially if you’re listening to Nevermind for the first time. What’s important is the intensity of his singing, the way he delivers those lines. All that rage that comes from the first song and the desperation that blinds your eyes in the last one has a very deep impact on you. Music is subjective and everyone should feel the way they want and not how they’re supposed to. Putting aside the cool pop studio tricks, it’s still a very hauntingly melancholic ...

...in effect, the release of Nevermind in 1991, and it’s subsequent 15 odd million sales, came more down to the radio-friendly tracks. Kurt (a man more intelligent than some would have you think), knew that the set formula of ‘Bleach’ wouldn’t last another album, and set about changing the bands sound and in effect, target audience. Of course were I to ask for a track from the album, the majority would respond with ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, when in ... ...on from Cobain’s suicide and Nevermind continues to sell like hot-cakes, something that alone shows you the influence that the man and his band still have today, with the name ‘Nirvana’ being passed down through generations of families (yes it may sound far fetched but believe me, it’s true). Nevermind is, to me, the greatest album in the history of rock, not because of the fact that it’s a Nirvana record, but because each and every song gives a ...

...the cult album that is Nevermind by Nirvana. For those completely unaware of the band, let alone the album, Nirvana were a Grunge band from Seattle during the early 90s. Made up of frontman Kurt Cobain, Kris Novoselic and Dave Grohl, they're widely considered as one of the biggest bands of their generation and genre due to their attitude and songs that hit the eardrums hard being the voice of the 'generation-X'. Lithium is a prime example of the 'quiet verse; heavy chorus' formula which works so well for a number of bands, nowhere more so than Nirvana. The intriguing verse lyrics of "I'm so ugly, that's okay 'cos so are you', to the chorus screams of "I like it, I'm not gunna crack", they ...

Advantages: A few big tunes Disadvantages: Some repetition
“Nevermind” was the 1991 release from Nirvana and finds the Washington-based Grunge band coming with what is considered to be a classic record as the late Kurt Cobain leads them and enables them to push Alternative Rock to success like it had never been seen before once they had dropped “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and everything else fell into place afterwards. It was their second of three albums before the death of the lead singer ad guitarist. 1. “Smells ... ...way to get the album underway as you find that they throw down a hardcore jam by coming out with their breakthrough single and letting it hype up the listeners as you here how they create a song that does exactly what you want form them with Kurt Cobain’s raw vocals that are almost impossible to get the lyrics from and from here the rest of them go off in a way that can’t be matched outside a Grunge setting. ***Five Stars** 2. “In Bloom” They keep ...

Advantages: Great Album That Launched a 1000 Bands Disadvantages: Pretty Much a Blatant Pixies Rip Off
Nevermind hits the three quarter century of reviews on Ciao and I though it would be nice for someone who was actually there to write a review about it. Way back in the late 80’s music was stagnating and there was no good rock music getting to get general public in this country. Hair Metal and Thrash ruled the day, and the days were long dark and horrible. Hair metal was evil and needed to be killed, Thrash had the initial anger of punk but failed ... ...Indie music at the time had too few great bands, rave culture was becoming increasingly moronic, and by ’89 there was a feeling that something was going to hit. I got into the Pixes at this time through a friend and he dragged me to see Nirvana at the Calton Studios in Edinburgh sometime in 89 or 90 or 91, I can’t remember exactly when mainly due to the amount of fantastic drugs around at the time (1). However I was completely blown away by them, ...

...and The Stooges then only NEVERMIND can prove you wildly mistaken because like all artistic masterpieces it transcends its genre magnificently. The sole reason, with the brilliance of the band that now included David Grohl from the Foo Fighters, came in the form of its constructor Kurt Cobain, an illustriously troubled and thoughtful master of contradictions.

A typical grunge song, all guitar and distortion, but of such accuracy in its depiction of what grunge fans wanted to hear (the same hardcore grunge fans ...

Has it really been 10 years? I still remember the first time I listened to this album. It was my Dad’s car, and we were racing around the Lake District whilst the stereo was kicking out “Smells Like Teen Spirit” at an obscene volume. This was just prior to my real discovery of music, and the birth of my real passion, but, even to my untrained ears, the sound of loud music coupled with acceleration seemed to evoke something primal.

Lithium - Nevermind is worth buying for this song alone. The lyrics are thought-provoking and amusing in turn, while the riff is a melodic masterpiece. The chorus is another explosive one, again showcasing Nirvana's sense of dynamics. Excellent, probably the best song on the album

A simple three chord riff and unintelligible lyrics about aliens. Who else but Nirvana could mix these ingredients into such a good song. In 1991 when "Nevermind" was released no one could have possibly foretold just how massive it was to become. From the cover photo, spitting into the face of every capitalist American, to the superb diversity of the cultured rock contained, this was and is an album to change the world. ...as a whole. Nevermind was a much more commercial album (although it was never intended to be when written), and featured two hit singles (Smells like teen spirit, and Come as you are). Advantages: Most of the Nirvana classics on one album Disadvantages: Most of your mums wont like it...but then is that a disadvantage?!?!?
‘Nevermind’ is the one of seven Nirvana albums, and without a doubt the most recognizable. Not only for the unforgettable front cover of the naked baby underwater and the dollar bill on a fishing line, but also for having most of Nirvana’s most famous songs on it.

Nirvana’s second album, Nevermind, the one that really made them is probably one of the best albums ever. The staying power of Nirvana is amazing, nearly seven years since Nirvana broke up, due to the untimely death of Kurt Cobain, and you still see people walking around with Nirvana t-shirts and hoodies.
