Nirvana are a band that tries to give out this image of "I'm so cool, I don't give a d*mn about life", which I'm not too keen on. But their music is somewhat amazing.
This album is probably one of the most hyped up albums ever. Honestly it probably doesn't rate as high as their other albums, but I totally love this album anyway. It starts off with "Smells like Teen Spirit", which has an alluring riff to it. With the celebrity of this track, I doubt ... ...This is an album to listen to when you've been stressed out and peed off. It has this 'when the world abandons you, blow up the world' kinda attitude which is pretty good for releasing tension. Howeber don't listen to too much Nirvana or you'll end up with a gun to your head.
Here is the track listing for Nirvana's Nevermind:
1. Smells Like Teen Spirit
2. In Bloom
3. Come As You Are
4. Breed
5. Lithium
6. Polly
7. Territorial Pissings

...us Nevermind.
Quite truly, Nevermind is their greatest accomplishment. Merging Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come as You are, Lithium and other tracks like Breed and On A Plain, has made me delighted that I forked out the cash to buy such an album.
My only regret is that Kurt Cobain died, and Nirvana passed away also, because it has not been the same music wise since. I always knew of Nirvana growing up, and although I have not listened to them quite ... ..."grunge" genre came back "in".
Personally, I believe Smells Like Teen Spirit was well ahead of its time. I am very grateful to be able to not only listen to it on the album, but also watch it on Kerrang music channel. I use Dave Grohl as my drumming teacher, and myself and friends love to jam to Smells Like Teen Spirit. It was also adapted by Diamond Dallas Page and WCW, and the title definitely relected on the character.
Come As You Are, is one ...

Advantages: Brilliant songs Disadvantages: I didn't like a few tracks
Released in 1991, Nevermind is Nirvana's finest album. It's easy to see why in Q magazine it was voted the second best album of all time (only just beaten by the Beatles), even though Nirvana themselfs were only in the spotlight for about 3 years. The albums cover is what most people would associate with this album, it's a really provocative, but it kind of overshadows the brilliant music on the album. I think nearly every track on here is fantastic, ... ...The album contains great songs such as, Smells like Teen Spirit, In bloom, and Come as you are. It's not the lyrics that stick in your head though, it's the quality of tracks musical content. It really is a great album, and should be in the hands of any true rock fan, theres no excuse for not having it! ...

Advantages: Fantastic album, excellent music Disadvantages: Kurt's dead
Nevermind is one of those classic albums that everyone should own. Every song here is brilliant. It opens with one of the best songs ever, "Smells like teen spirit". This is a fantastic song, and a great opening track. It just grabs you by the balls and pulls you in.
The lyrics are very wierd and, to me anyway, don't make a lot of sense. They are quite indistinguishable, and the lack of a lyric book doesn't help matters.
The music is spiky and ... ...or in a group, in the car or in a party.
It's well worth a listen, I wasn't sure about it, but it grew on me a lot and now I love it. "Stay Away" and "Lounge Act" are my favourites off it, but everyone has different favourites. Its well worth the money. ...

The best CD that I ever listened to. It has the great it "smells like teen spirit" that I love to listen to. This CD has all of their best music. I think that this CD should have a special place on each and everyones CD collection. Kurt was a musical genius to create such revolutionnary music and such though provoking lyrics. The music stands in a category by itself and everyone should listen to it at least once in their lives. But What about his ...

...death to criticise Nirvana, and Nevermind in particular. Yes Kurt Cobain died, and yes that's awful, but judging Nevermind purely on whats on the record and ignoring the history, dubious myths and fanatical fan worship, it doesn't consistently stand up as a great album.
For a start, the production is so slick that the roar of the guitars becomes a bit of a whimper. Everything feels like it's been glossed over to appeal to MTV. Odd that Kurt spent ... ...For a rock album, Nevermind is too slick, too polished. It's got a soft rock, dare i say hair metal, production that i always thought nirvana couldn't stand. ...say that i don't think Nevermind is their best. It is their most commercial album, and it is an amazing album, and anybody would be a complete fool not to own it, BUT, I don't think it is their best album.
To me, In Utereo is their best. It sounds like their rarest album, and it sounds brutal, yet with really good production. And good songs are all there, from the first to the last.
"Nevermind" is a mind blowing album, no doubt! But, the album ...

Is it now fair to say that Grunge is dead?
The answer in my opinion is NO.
Many people think that Since April 4 1994, the date of Kurt Cobains death, that grunge died with Nirvana.
Nirvana are without a doubt one of the most influencial bands of the 20th century inspiring many new/not well known bands and helping to get recognised and make a name for themselves eg Mudhoney, Screaming trees, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.
This opinion is inspired ... ...Hardrock, metal and punk section of this list. Such an inspiring band has been almost forgotton about after only 5 years since the death of the greatg one. It is clear that the memory of Kurt/ Nirvana is fading away due to the fact that lines of clothing are being discontinued all the time making fans of the band fewer all the time.
The lack of merchandise and the cost of albums since the bands demise has made so that no new fans are coming through ...

Advantages: So many classics, such a great mix. Disadvantages: It was the last proper thing they ever did *sob*
Nirvana are not my favourite band, never were, their punk routes were not for me....BUT.....Nevermind is a fantastic album. One of the biggest albums of the early 90's and according to some people a "selling out" album, whatever your politics towards it, it is fabulous disc of pure passioned rock. According to NME it "continues to spew a molten-lava stream of melody, primal force, and passion" whereas Q went further with "...this Seattle trio, for ... ...attention that pursued them. ...[Nirvana] broke into and stole the hearts of this generation because Sir Cobain could write an incredibly catchy song...[with] lyrics that were not shallow treatises..."
which I think is what is at the heart of Nirvana.

Advantages: Decent songs, pop-hooks in place Disadvantages: Lacks rawness and riffs in places
I'm not fond of the polished production of Nevermind. I'm fine with the vocal harmonies (as ever) but there's perhaps a bit much of the phaser/flanger/whatever/never mind - prefer to hear the guitars without such effects (or at least stripped down?). In 'Come As You Are' it's not so bad, but in three chord fast thrash 'Territorial Pissings' it means the guitars are not matching Kurt's vocal for rawness. The guitar solos in 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' ... ...do not stray far from the vocal melodies. The only other song to have a guitar solo is 'In Bloom' - the three are the first songs on the album and have cool riffs. They are singles along with 'Lithium', which picks at the notes of it's power-chords before taking them full-on in a chorus of "Yeah yeah yeah" by the quiet/loud dynamic muchly used throughout the album. 'Breed', 'Lounge Act' have cool bass riffs but the album falls short in terms of riffage. ...

...ever.
Every song on Nevermind has lyrics of a personal reference to Kurt, and considering that many critics slaughter modern-day artists for writing about parents, love etc, truth be told that is also what a majority of Nirvana's songs were based around (Kurt's hate for his father, his love for Courtney, parents divorce etc). But its the fact that they did it 10 years ago before the glutony of samey artists appeared.
The hidden track (which I believe ... ...is probably best kept as a hidden track. It wouldn't really have fitted with the other songs on the album in my opinion due to a huge difference in tempo with the songs. Whereas on other Nirvana albums I can generally find one song that I dont completely agree with, there isn't a single track on here that I could even question. The sound of the album in general is as much pop as rock. Although that sounds like a strange thing to say, it is well known ...

What can you say about this album that hasn't been said before?!
Everyone's got it, everyone knows how good it is.
The best tracks on this album are: Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Cmoe As You Are, Breed, Lithium, Polly, Territorial Pissings, Drain You, Lounge Act, Stay Away, On A Plain and Something In The Way - Oh, wait,0 that's all of them (wasn't meant to be a joke, but I started writing the list...). There is a bonus 'hidden' track on ... ...I understand. Not particularly worth inclusion on this album, it's a strange choice given the other outtakes of around this time.
The production of this album (produced by Butch Vig - now in the band Garbage) sounds a bit 80s for my tastes, I prefer the roughness of "Bleach" (as did Kurt I think).
Overall, this is clearly one of the greatest albums of all time. Being a Pixies fan, I can see various influences in the songs, so I don't see it quite ...

Advantages: Some of the best work the band have produced. Disadvantages: Smells Like Teen Spirit is over-played to death.
...since never been matched.
Nevermind kicks off with the rock world's most over played song in existance "Smells like Teen Spirit". I will admit that this is one of their best songs, however it had been played to death in acid at ever alternative club nationwide and is definate NOT their best song. (This would be "Heart Shaped Box" form the "In Utero" album in my opinion).
The wake left by Teen Spirit is closely followed up by "In Bloom" and one ... ..."Come As You Are". The bands best song ever recorded unplugged, the melodic "Polly" enters into the tracklist as does the eccentric lyrics acquainted to "lithium" create a great contrast to the wildness of the first few tracks. In keeping with the heavy grunge sound, "Territorial Pissings" has that supa fuzz appeal that is loved by so many guitarists worldwide, accompanied by Kurt cobain's wildly insane lyrics.
The album concludes with the solemn ...

I know that this opinion is nearly the same as my last one but the previous category I put it in has disappeared so I decided to move it ( I save my opinions on my pc)
This is probably my 2nd favourite album of all time. It has everything, great guitar solos, moving songs, lyrics with a meaning and in my opinion the best drummer of the 90's. The best song is probably "Terriatorial Pi**ings" but "Breed" gives it a run for the money. Kurt Cobain wrote ... ...Nirvana album buy this as it contains 75% of Nirvanas best songs that aren't on their greatest hits album.
It has only two problems. One is that it is too short (only 43 minutes long) and the other is that the hidden track takes 12 minutes to get to. Those aren't very good reasons against the album, but as it is almost flawless it is hard to pick up its bad points.
Nirvana have a great sound. It is very hard to describe but I will do my best. It ...
