Aida in platform heels

Advantages: The group's best
Disadvantages: None

...tastes in popular music, ‘A Night At The Opera’ was clearly one of the defining albums of the 70s. From that striking sleeve design, the group’s logo on a white background (which sadly has far less impact on the CD than it did in the days of vinyl) and the invitation-style script, to the music inside, it was a record you couldn’t ignore at the time, whether you loved or hated it. Not the least remarkable thing about it was that it was Queen’s fourth ...
...after that (excluding live sets, greatest hits collections and the post-Freddie Mercury ‘Made in Heaven’), but without in my view ever equalling, let alone surpassing, this. The music was so diverse it was extraordinary. Hard rock one moment, camp novelty singalong the next. And the sound was staggering. ‘No synthesizers were used’ was a regular credit on the album sleeves for the first years of their career. But the multi-layered vocal and guitar ...

POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE

Advantages: A classic album with several outstanding tracks
Disadvantages: A few quirky experimental tracks

Queen’s fourth studio album, “A Night at the Opera”, released in 1975, was the first of two Queen albums to be named after Marx Brothers’ films. (The second being 1976’s “A Day at the Races”). It is regarded by many as their best album, not least because it contains their ‘magnum opus’ “Bohemian Rhapsody”. It is also the first album to really make full use of the intricate multi-layer ...
...Queen fans, it contains no use of synthesisers (a synthesiser did not make an appearance on a Queen album until “The Game”, some four albums later in 1980) and probably epitomises the trademark Queen “style” in the 1970s. Its overall style could not be called anything other than Rock (Queen were criticised by many fans on some of their later albums for moving away from their usual style and experimenting with a dance/funk ...

A NIGHT IN WITH QUEEN

Advantages: Some fantastic tracks
Disadvantages: None

Queen - A Night At The Opera Released 21st Nov 1975 In the Winter of 1975 Queen released their fourth album, A Night At The Opera, which propelled them into superstar status in the eyes of those who hadn’t held them in such high regard previously. At the time of its release, the album was one of the most expensive ever made and was released only after EMI had paid a large amount following legal problems with the first track: * Tracks 1) Death ...
...song – Heavy, angry and a great song to put on when you’re annoyed with the world. Although I’ve never known who it was supposedly dedicated to, I read in Pumpkin’s review that it was an ex-manager who screwed the band over for money. Whoever it was, the venom in Mercury’s voice shines through on this track and when put alongside the next track it sounds even more powerful. 2) Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon Compared to the previous track, this couldn’t ...

Extravaganza

Advantages: Great rock pop stuff
Disadvantages: Sometimes a bit too varied and clever clever

...but it was with 'A Night At The Opera' in 1975 that the four piece really put down their marker. It was an epic achievement and it was months in the making. They started work on songs in June 1975 and started recording in August, eventually spending three months in various studios around the country, working with regular producer Roy Thomas Baker. As ever, the band had the legend 'No synthesizers' daubed on the album, but you could have been fooled ...
...I'd been doing." With 'A Night At The Opera, he finally had the opportunity to realise that conceit and he seized it with both hands. He was to explain matters thus: "We wanted to experiment with sound. Sometimes we used three studios simultaneously. We have no such thing as a recording budget any more - we're lavish to the bone." The idea of overdubbing again and again to create a great wash of sound came to the fore on 'Sheer Heart Attack'. The ...

A Night At The Opera--Queen's True Masterpiece

Advantages: Great music by a legendary band
Disadvantages: None to speak of

A Night At The Opera, released in 1975, is their best work, in my opinion--it's completely overblown, pompous and pretentious, but it has just the perfect combination of classical influence, nostalgia, pop and visceral rock 'n roll to completely quantify these great musicians. Those rich, layered Queen harmonies have never been better, and Freddie Mercury's stylish croonings combined with the intricate guitar orchestrations of Brian May mark this ...
...The players, and their contributions, are as follows (as taken from the album liner): Freddie Mercury, vocals, vocals, Bechstein Debauchery, and more vocals Brian May, guitars and orchestral backdrops, vocals Roger Taylor, percussion, vocals John Deacon, electric bass guitar The tracks, and a little information about each, are as follows: 1. Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To.....)--An involved classical piano is a stunning contrast to the searing guitar ...

Music history begins here

Advantages: Music history via Bo Rhap , plus other great tunes .
Disadvantages: None - sheer poetry .

Queen - ‘A Night At The Opera‘ - released 1974 . This op is based upon the remastered CD version of ‘A Night At The Opera’ , and as a result , sleeve notes may be different to those of the original album. This has o be one of the most , if not the MOST revered Queen album of all time. Queen’s 4th studio album ( the previous being : Queen1 , Queen 2 , Sheer Heart Attack ) , and my favourite of all their albums . So what do you get for your money ...
...: “Queen - A Night At The Opera” 1) Death on Two Legs Right from the very beginning , dramatic music , operatic in stature , which leads to a great guitar riff by Brian May , followed by Freddies enthralling vocals . Pure rock genius 2) Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon 30’s style fun , with Freddie in jovial old school English mood . Pure fun , with some decent instrumentation , that leads straight into : 3) I’m In Love With My Car One of my ...

Is this the real life?

Advantages: Amazing songs, wonderful arrangements,
Disadvantages:

"A Night At The Opera" was Queen's big breakthrough album after years of playing lowly-paid gigs and never quite making the big-time. The main hit from this album was the ubiquitous "Bohemian Rhapsody" with its rock-opera influences. No one ever knew what it meant, not even Freddy Mercury who wrote it. But it was powerful and different veering as it does from high-opera to the amazing virtuosity of Brian May's rock guitar playing. The track has now ...
...got to go/Got to leave you all behind and face the truth" presaging his tragic death from Aids twenty years later. There are some other gems in here as well. "You're My Best Friend" by Roger Deacon is a lovely upbeat song, "Love of My Life" by Mercury a vulnerable love ballad which really touches you, plus three songs which have echoes of the twenties in their melodies "39", "Good Company" and "Seaside Rendezvous". And of course the last track is ...

Ay Carumba!

Advantages: This
Disadvantages: That

This epinion is based on the Hollywood Records release from 1991. This CD is really one of the better CDs in available to buy. It sort of stinks as a whole that everybody doesn't know it. Everybody should try and obtain this CD. I hope everybody who listens to music, will please go out and spend their good money at the CD store, while obtaining and adding this one to their collection. This review used to be better. But I cannot write reviews for ...

Ridiculous, but mighty fine

Advantages: Inspired collection of songs, with a few classics
Disadvantages: Some are just too weird

As you would expect from the album which orignally spawned Bohemian Rhapsody, this isn't all that sensible in places, you've got some good hard rock, with such songs as Sweet Lady, ballads such as Love of my Life, and some odd stuff. This is Queen at their weirdest. There's Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, which is frankly ridiculous, and you've got one of Roger Taylor's rare bits of song writing in the form of I'm in Love With my Car, with the wonderfully ...

Great queen

Advantages: the queen albums are the best
Disadvantages: nothing

Hello everybody I begin excuse to you but I m an Italian boy so my English is not my first language. The queen are my favorite group and this album is one of the best albums of the group. This morning I was listening it and I song it. Beyond the singles - bohemian rhapsody and you re my best friend I signal songs as Love of my life and the prophet song. The first one is a love song very intensive. The thing that it has hit me is the core in the middle ...
...you can list better the beauty of this song. I am useful in order to say that I do not know in England but in Italy it is stretched to call singers people like Brytney Spears that for me have nothing to that to make with music. As an example she does not know to sing and does not write the witnesses. Packsaddles to think that for the concerts it heads plus at the dance that on the song and when she can she uses the playback. I m sure that if Freddie ...

One of their best albums

Advantages: Got loads of good songs
Disadvantages: Quite a few of the songs are really weired (but thats not always a bad thing!!!!)

The first track on this album, 'Death on Two Legs' is one Queen's best songs in my opinion. I love the introduction, and the rest of it is almost as good, even if the lyrics are a bit cutting!!! It runs into the next song, 'Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon' really well and there is a complete change of mood. This song sounds a bit gay (no offence to homosexuals!!!) but it is a decent track. It is a bit similar to 'Seaside Rendezvous' which has some wierd ...
...typically Freddy Mercury and is probably one of my favourite tracks on this album. Arguably the best song on this album (in any case the most successful) is 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Although this is a brilliant song, there are other tracks on the album which come close to its standard. '39' and 'Good Company' (both written by May) are two of these. Prehaps the only song that I am not overly keen on is 'The Prophets song' It starts off ok but I think ...

Possibly the best album in the world?

Advantages: All tracks display originality, diversification and talent 'par excellence'.
Disadvantages: Are there any?

By the release of this, their fourth album, Queen had risen above many of the run-of-the-mill heavy rock bands of the time and begun to experiment in the studio. The sheer diversity of musical styles and innovative techniques that go to make this album so enjoyable is breathtaking: from the heavy rock of "Death On Two Legs" to the ragtime swing of "Good Company", through to the epic "Prophet's Song" and '20s jazz-influenzed "Seaside Rendezvous", ...
...single ever, the legendary "Bohemian Rhapsody". Released in December 1975, the album shot to No.1 in the charts at a time when the Sex Pistols had just begun to play their first gigs. Punk dealt a blow to Queen and similar rock "dinosaurs", but they were too original and clever (all members had numerous Degrees and "A" levels) to be swept away on the New Wave. Quite simply the best rock album of all-time. ...
