Advantages: Beautiful songs, voices Disadvantages: Karen's death
...her and the maybe the only thing she could control in her life was eating and so this lead to her disorder. On Friday, February 4, 1983, at the age of 32, Karen suffered cardiac arrest due to the anorexia and passed away. Karen and Richard both have such lovely soft voices that work very well together and produce some lovely melodies. I think the story behind their music also makes them more appealing. In some ways and I know this is a bit weird ... ...a lot of their songs. Only Yesterday is their Greatest Hits Albums. I love greatest hits albums because you find generally all your favourites on one CD. It was released in 1990 and went to number 1 in the UK and has been 5x certified platinum. The tracks on the album are as follows: 1. Yesterday Once More 2. Superstar 3. Rainy Days and Mondays 4. Top of the World 5. Ticket to Ride 6. Goodbye to Love 7. THis Masquerade 8. This Beatle's classic is less poppy than the original version - in fact it's very slow and not a particular favourite of mine. In my opinion they wrecked a damn good record.

11. Those Good Old Dreams- "As a child I was known for make-believing". Background flute to begin, and a proliferation of Richards back-up vocals in this one. Bring out the bunnies and rainbows. *R

19. Only Yesterday- The drummer breaks out of a regular rhythm on this one! I'm sure Karen was delighted, often playing drums in the earlier songs. 20. Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft- A funny intro where a radio DJ converses with an alien. This is supposedly the recognised anthem of World Contact Day. "In your mind you have capacities, you know, to telepath messages through the vast unknown."

Advantages: Nostalgia Disadvantages: Regarded as pretty sad
...to the strains of ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’.
In my younger days I remember lying in bed on a Sunday morning, hoping to be left alone surrounded by my adolescent filth until at least midday. Unfortunately my mother often barged in a la Mrs Patterson and forced me to clean it up. If, however, I heard The Carpenters album go on downstairs then I knew she was in a good mood and I was likely to be left to stagnate for as long as I wanted.
I’m recommending ... ...known tracks on it; ‘Close To You’ being a particular favourite. The thing is I’m not sure to whom. Who would read a review on a Carpenters compilation? Either you’re an anachronism like me, or you hate them and are reading this to poke fun at us saddies.
Either way my opinion won’t be of much use to you! On the slim chance that you’re feeling nostalgic or want to buy a Carpenters CD as a gift, choose this one – it’s full of all the favourites. ...
