Advantages: Fantastic writing, lovely melodies and a refreshing front voice. Disadvantages: I'm waiting too long for the next album.
Forgive me for sounding like a new disciple of the Coldplay Clan, but I really can't help it!
I had been waiting for someone, anyone, to bring out some music that really meant something to me. I'm not one of those people who memorise the names of band members or can tell you the intrinsic musical qualities of the symphony but I know what I like, and I likes this alot!
The lead singer has a voice that sounds boyish yet portrays that certain wisdom ... ...clear yet has a quirky way of changing mid-note, this can be a tad bit tiring seeing as though he does it on every song, but hey, I don't care, the songs are all fantastic.
Finally, we have a new band that have got something more interesting to say than 'Oh Baby, why can't we be together' or 'Don't you love the summer, lets dance and sing' or the old cherry 'Wave your hands in the air like you just don't care'. I got a gist about a couple of songs ...

Advantages: Great album, fantastic group Disadvantages: None
...kicks straight in immediately after Parachutes and is a nice relaxing vibe. After a couple of minutes of listening to this song it gets a little repetitive but Chris sings beautifully and that definitely saves the song from the scrapheap! 6/10 We Never Change: This song continues with the relaxing feel of the end of the album and Chris is singing about how he wants to live life and I feel like this song was wrote for somebody in particular (maybe ... ...very easy to listen to and once again Chris shows off his vocal skills to excellent heights. 7/10 Everything's Not Lost: This is a great ending to the album, fantastic lyrics, fantastic music, Chris sounds fantastic! This talks about counting up your demons and everything not being lost if you can just drive the bad things from your mind. This song is by far the longest on the album at 7 minutes 15 seconds, I don't feel bored of this song but anymore ...

...but it is. Slightly like Parachutes the song, this song is slow and silky smooth, a great song to round off an amazing album.
There is not one bad song on this album and I couldn't reccomend it more highly. There's something for everyone, except for lads who like to sing-along. To you I say "Not a chance, mate". Hopefully they're good live as they'll be at Slane in Ireland during the summer and I'm going. C'mon!!!!!! ...

Advantages: Very good album for people of all musical Tastes Disadvantages: I almost let the overplaying of Yellow ruin it for me.
It was back in 2000 when Coldplay started to make a name for themselves. The debut single “Yellow” was being overplayed to death on the radio and TV and I found it was really starting to grate. It got so bad in fact that I put off buying the album deciding that Coldplay weren’t really worth bothering with and that one song was enough for me. A few months later I happened to hear a different track on the radio and thought that I might actually like ... ...They met at University and from there Chris Martin and the rest of the band decided they wanted to take on the world. Although Chris seems to have also made it his personal crusade to save the Earth as well. That’s getting ahead of myself though. They played a number of gigs around London and eventually seemed to catch someone’s eye and that someone decided to release a few of their tracks. From there things just kept getting better for Coldplay ...

Advantages: Fantastic debut Disadvantages: Can be dull and boring at times
...kinda way. • Parachutes The title track is also the shortest track, but it really doesn't need to be any longer. All there is, is Chris Martin singing softly and playing a little ditty on his acoustic guitar. It might sound a bit rubbish, but the band have found acoustic suits them very nicely (many of their gigs are done this way) and this track is the best example. • High Speed Using the singing-then-pause-then-guitar formula to good ... ...Your decision really whether this is good or not, but it certainly stands it on the album as something different. It's not really wowing chilling out stuff, but it's not hard rocky stuff either. Bit weird. But Chris Martin's fantastic voice draws me back to it. • We Never Change Back to slow, soft, nice indie stuff with track number nine. You might find it maybe too slow, as it doesn't really get off its feet. You may find yourself wanting ...

Advantages: quality not quantity(at last) Disadvantages: too short for some
I was tempted to buy this album as I had heard the single "trouble" sounded different I thought so gave in to my temptation. And im happy to say i have been rewarded. For at least the last ten years, to do well in this musical field, you had to be a goodlooking celeb, not a musician. You had to be a Britney, or an westlife. Music produced for you, you just come along, sing 6 or 7 lines, record a video and release.
But thankfully for people who actually ... ...exist. A band that have instruments. A band that "play music", an unheard of idea.
Right, enough stuff about how much I hate pop music, and on to a nice little review of the album...
At 10 tracks, and around 40 mins, this album is short-lived, but unlike most records, all the tracks are quality.Something i would controversialy say was missing from David's gray recent album. They do go for the old "quality not quantity" idea. And they do this I am ...

Advantages: Lyrical depth and spare instrumentation Disadvantages: Derivative of previous and similiar releases
...That's what Coldplay's Parachutes is all about. For four young men with an average age of 23 to bring these thoughts to their music is indeed an accomplishment and their reward has been the attention paid to this debut release by both the press and public. The spare arrangements consisting of guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards conjure up an inherent sadness tinged with an optimistic glimpse into what the future might bring. But is the optimism sarcasm ... ..."living in a beautiful world" but suggest the idea of dependence on someone else. "Spies" suggest an obvious paranoia from society that is confirmed in a content and resigned manner while "Shiver" covers a relationship based on obsession that is and will always be unrequited. Coldplay speaks to the basic geek lover in all of us by hitting on the internal conflicts and surrounding it with pretty melodies and florid, vibrato guitar solos, leaving the ...

...aside, I'm sure.
7. Parachutes - 0:46 - very short, picking, meaningful
If you can see the meaning in Parachutes, then you can see the meaning in Coldplay. Simple, defying convention.
8. High Speed - 4:14 - 'out there', scratchy, suburban
High Speed sees the lead guitar turn into a much more atmospheric instrument than usual. It isn't used for musical value as much as just for depth. The concept of living in a bubble pops up for the second time ... ...except that it's a nice thought. High Speed isn't really what it appears, and yet that doesn't stop it being what it is.
9. We Never Change - 4:09 - simple, bass notes, semi-spoken
'We Never Change' is another great laid back signature Coldplay track, complemented by some great clean toned lead guitar that smacks of slow bends and pina coladas (that is almost certainly spelt wrong). Chill-out music at its very best.

Advantages: Some lovely songs, very mellow and emotional. With mostly great lyrics, and brilliant music throughout, this really is one of the must-own albums of the new century. Disadvantages: A few rather duff lyrics, and it won't be appreciated if you are too cynical about the hype that surrounds the band. Don't be, or you'll miss out
On first hearing, I wasn't so sure about whether or not Coldplay were the brilliant band that the music press had led me to believe, although when I listen to the album now I am not sure why I felt this way. I think it may be that I was less than astounded by their breakthrough single, Yellow, but now I have grown even to love that track. I bought the album after Yellow's release, fuelled by the great reviews that it had recieved, but was rather ... ...listening. I heard the first track, Don't Panic, which is currently recieving a lot of radio play, and loss interest immediately, my cynical mind dismissing the song as rubbish because of the rather lacklustre lyrics ("We live in a beautiful world, yeah we do, yeah we do"). This led me to give up almost immediately on the album, not concentrating on what I was listening to and only listening up to about track four before being distracted by something ...

Advantages: Some really good lyrics Disadvantages: Some really plodding music
As you can see from the title of this exorcism of the myth that surrounds the band that call themselves Coldplay, I really do not understand WHAT THE FUSS IS ABOUT!!! Coldplay are most certainly NOT the saviours of rock music - they are quiet indie-lite tunesmiths who, occasionally, can produce something quite good but generally blend into the category marked 'indie-pop' which can hastily be disposed of, and indeed this album is greatly disposable.
... ...of Toploader and Placebo and you will see that I am a fair, kind, generous person) but this is not groundbreaking stuff. This is middle-of-the-road stuff that somehow has gained great critical appraisal from the music media, who obviously have no idea what they are talking about, or listened to this album with muffled earphones with a poor sound system. Because Coldplay are young, and so greatly hyped-up, this is considered a masterpiece. If Chris ...

Advantages: Accoustic harmonies and easy to listen to songs.Sincere and heartfelt lyrics. A really nice album. Disadvantages: I didnt like it as much as X&Y or A Sudden Rush of Blood to the Head.
Parachutes By Coldplay was released in 2000. The band are a London based indie band. They have been compared to bands like Radiohead and on listening to this album you can understand why, although they aren't as heavy. The music on this album is filled with sweet harmonies, mixied with distorted guitar riffs and percussion. The songs are accousticy and light and generally have a really easy listening feel to them. Chris Martins voice is really gravelly ... ...therefore that in the 2000, Parachutes achieved a Mercury Prize nomination. When I first heard this album, I really didn't like it, although I still believe the above statements to be true. Music with space and time to breathe, at last a new band who don`t jump on the mass produced band wagon. Nice guitar work contrasting and combining acoustic and electric guitar ,effective keyboard work, sensitive and diverse drumming and what a distinctive voice..wow Complex time signatures too showing they do know what they are talking about, well done guys.
Unlike most people I guess I actually prefer some of the tracks that have not been released ... ...my least favourites, although I still have a soft spot for "Trouble"
These songs are well constructed demonstrating good use of instrumental texture, effects, melodic lines, riffs and lyrical content.

...4 years. This album, Parachutes is their first album and contains their 2 biggest hits to date. These are Trouble and Yellow. Their sound is a mixture of simple guitar riffs and melodic piano mixed in with soft bass an gentle drums. Best not to compare them to anyone as there is no one around with a similar sound. However, if you twisted my arm, I may say they sound like a happy ... ...their skills do lie in soft ballads and the majority of the album is made up of these. The 2 big tracks, as I mentioned are "Yellow" and "Trouble". Firstly, Yellow is one of those tracks that they play at festivals like Reading and V2001 and dont even need to sing the words.
