Advantages: Strong and interesting lyrics. Some very good songs. Disadvantages: Don't listen if you are feeling depressed. Basic booklet no lyrics just a few photos
It's hard to believe that it's almost a decade since Coldplay released this their debut album, and what a good album it is.
The opening track is the very melodic "Don't Panic". I heard this song many times before I knew the title and assumed it was called "we live in a beautiful world" because that is the main lyric that runs throughout the song. It's a shame the track is so short at around 2 mins 16 seconds as it is one of the best songs here.
... ...the first chart success, albeit minor, reaching number 35 in the UK singles chart. This lasts just under five minutes and is a hint of what we have come to know and love about Coldplay in more recent times.
"Spies" is a good song and is even better live whilst "Sparks" is a more melodic ballad. This one is a bit dull in my opinion.
"Yellow" comes next and is the track that really brought the band to the publics attention. It is an outstanding song ...

Advantages: Serious, quality songs Disadvantages: Bit on the morose side
Coldplay were, for me, the best band to emerge in 2000, and I enjoy listening to them more than Radiohead, with whom there obvious similarities. But Coldplay actually remind me more of American Music Club and their singer Mark Eitzel’s material.
In any case, although I can hear the similarities, they don’t get in the way, as Coldplay somehow manage to avoid sounding too derivative.
The band must have got sick of the "new Radiohead" ... ...It’s true that anyone who likes Radiohead is likely to love Coldplay, but I think that Coldplay have managed to appeal to an even broader audience.
"Yellow" is of course a masterpiece – a song that only needed one hearing for me to instantly love it – the kind of song you remember all your life. Like many of the songs on "Parachutes" it sounds poetic, and somehow sad. "Trouble", another gorgeous tune, has a weariness about it and ...

Advantages: It has some instantly catchy simple tunes Disadvantages: The media is soon going to get bored of them, and then it will become uncool to like them, shame
I like to think I was one of the first Coldplay fans. They did a session on Radio 1 for Steve Lamacq before they were signed to Parlophone; and from that you could tell they were special. They released an EP called the "Safety EP" which is now near impossible to get, as so few were printed. And then they released the "Brothers and Sisters EP" on Fierce Panda, rare until it was recently re-released. Parlophone obviously thought they were something ... ...not long after. I then went on to see them play Glastonbury 1999, the year before everyone else. And with that I was hooked, and have seen them a number of times since. It's because of this that I really couldn't wait for the album to come out. I actually got a copy a few weeks before and was half expecting it to not live up to their live gigs. But Chris Martin and Co. have managed to put together a stunning debut, and at such a young age. I know ...

Advantages: Bizarre cover, good price, Disadvantages: Not enuff songs,
Coldplay are the next Travis? No Travis were a pre-lude to Coldplay! This is an excellent album and was most deserving of the best album award at the MTV awards earlier this year. People were surprised about Coldplay winning it....why are they deaf? Coldplay are a revolutionary sound (many have likened them to The Verve and Travis but sorry people Coldplay are in a league of their own. From the very start you can tell it is gonna be an excellent ... ...out a stall, and then continue to produce excellent songs, 'Shiver', 'Yellow', 'Trouble' and such. What an album, they have picked the right songs to release as singles, but could for me easliy lift 'Spies' and 'Parachutes' with the backing of the popularity gained by the pervious songs could break top 10.
They lyrics are excellent but are strangley reminicint of a bad case of paranoia, (listen to 'spies' and you'll know what I mean). The best band ...

Advantages: Just well-crafted, affecting soungs. Disadvantages: A few well-worn cliches.
Every self-respecting music fan (and band) knows that the debut album is A VERY IMPORTANT THING. As both a statement of intent and calling card, it can make or break a fledgling band's career. Luckily, Coldplay have taken their time to skilfully craft this unhurried, high-quality LP, which boasts not only a batch of excellent songs but also a maturity not normally found on a debut release.
The first four tracks are flawless, especially the haunting ... ...this point onwards. The title track is so short that it's over before it's had a chance to begin, and some of the lyrics are a bit cliched, although Chris Martin's rich voice just about carries them off.
Still, it's refreshing to encounter a band who's "message" is one of hope rather than doom or nihilism. Coldplay may have been written off in some quarters as "the new Travis", but they already display twice as much talent. ...

If you enjoyed one of last years biggest album's, Semisonic's Feeling Strangely Fine then you'll love this.
Packed full of the singles we've all heard a few million times, it's also full of songs which are equally as good - I won't mention any in particular as that wouldn't do the others justice.
An ideal Christmas Pressie for anyone, Mother, Father (for their mid-life crisis), Brother, Sister, budgie(if you need and excuse), yourself.........

...hit, I had to buy parachutes as soon as I heard it was being released.
The singer has an excellent vocal range and the band fit together comfortably well to perform excellent live recorded music.
I do prefere these non electric bands because they actually deserve their fame from the effort they have to put into their work.
All in all the album is ace. As with any album, there are a couple of not so good songs but only a couple. This has permanent ...

Advantages: Beautiful lyrics, tunes, great to relax to aswell Disadvantages: Can't get up and wildly party to it
This album is great, although I loved their first three singles. If you did too, then this album is for you. I listen to it time and time again, it's relaxing, with great lyrics. A lot of people have been comparing them others, some even going so far as to say they are unoriginal and boring, but in all honesty - who cares? This album has a great 10 tracks on it, (don't forget to check out the secret track on the end of track 10). It's really really ...

Review of Parachutes - Coldplay
Advantages: Catchy songs. Disadvantages: Not enough tracks.
I bought this Album for two reasons: 1. I liked the songs Yellow and Trouble, 2. It was on offer! But I am impressed with the other songs on this album. I don't have many CDs so if I buy one it has to be worth it. The songs are very inspiring and seem to be in the same league as Travis. The lyrics are very good and the tunes relaxing. However, I do think they could have put more tracks on the CD to make it more value for money. This is a very good ...

Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: Not everyones cup of tea
This is the most amazing album ever, every friend I have lent it oo has gone straight out and bought it. Its mostly acoustic guitar so its not everyones cup of tea, but for those who like indie music it is one of the best albums around. Coldplay have produced an album of outstanding quality, tracks such as "Yellow","spies" and "trouble". Music that you can really listen too. It can change your mood for the day, and brighten up your life. I reccomend ...

i had only heard a couple of coldplay albums when i bought this album. in fact, i really only bought it as it was on offer if you bought another CD, but i'm glad i did as it is such a good album. the songs are mostly slow, melodic and guitar based, making it a very easy album to listen to and like. the lyrics are sensitive and thought - provoking, and fit well with the style of music. my favourite tracks are probably 'yellow', the band's big hit ...

Review of Parachutes - Coldplay
A truly remarkable album - I purchased it on the basis of the song 'Shiver', expecting to find two or three other decent tracks. It turned out to be my best album purchase of the year, and worth every penny I paid for it. From the outset, the album impresses. 'Dont Panic' is short and sweet, but sets the tone for the rest of the album. 'Spies' is ghostly and mysterious, and leads into the uplifting 'Yellow' perfectly. Some may argue that the album ... ...an issue - the album is the perfect length to listen to in one sitting. All ten tracks are excellent, with no 'spacefiller' tracks which seem to be becoming more and more common these days.
Overall, an excellent album. If you like Travis, Embrace or Radiohead, I highly recommend you try this one. ...

Advantages: Beautifully evocative Disadvantages: A little too short
...are yet to achieve.
Parachutes opens with Don't Panic, introducing the beautifully tender voice of Chris Martin, who is able to intertwine flickers of falsetto with powerful lyrics throughout the album. Instrumentalism is used to superb effect, most notably the guitar in Shiver and the piano in Trouble. However, it is the lyrics that edge the album towards perfection, most effectively in Everyting's Not Lost. This is the last and best track on the ... ...track on a car radio, or that would yield a string of chart-toppers. However, it is filled with such feeling that in the right atmosphere, and listened to as a whole, it is nothing short of glorious. So much has been written about Coldplay of late, I don't think I need to run you through their life story. Suffice to say thay everybody who's anybody is currently hailing them as "The New Radiohead/Travis/Verve/Jeff Buckley..." you get the picture.
