Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
The Stereophonics, the boys from the Welsh valleys hit the big time with their first recording ‘Word Gets Around’. This is their second ever album released in 1999, and it is more than a match for a follow up.
I would always give the Stereophonics a lot of time. They are hardly manufactured; just some lads that could play and sing that have known each other for years coming from a poor area. They are talented people in the three-piece ...

Stadium rock and cock tails
Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
mabaker
Advantages: a couple of great tracks
Disadvantages: plodding, unoffensive MOR seems to be the order of the day
1997 saw the release of 'Word Gets Around', the debut album from the Stereophonics, which rode the wave of sucess carrying other Welsh bands into mainstream awareness. While it probably lacked the invention of the Super Furry Animals or the emotional depth of the Manics, its energy and humorous social comment made it a lucrative album which still retained some credibility. While it had some mellow moments few concessions were made to anything other ...

Hit after hit
Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
nicanddarrell
Advantages: Great tracks with strong lyrics
Disadvantages: A couple of weak links
In the last few years, I have gone from being a huge fan of this band around the time they released 'Local Boy' to being quite indifferent to them now, as I think they have become so caught up in the whole rock n roll lifestyle, and whilst taking themselves so seriously, they seem to have forgotten what they do best, and that is write and perform great songs, and this was the last album from them that I really liked, and it is still a favourite of ...

Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
Andy.mack
Advantages: A good follow up to WGA
Disadvantages: Not perfect but then what is
...an album almost its equal, Performance and Cocktails. The expectation was high to see how the Phonics would or even if they could make a better album. The result? Better no, As Good? Definitely. They had gone from being the Tragic Love Company playing working men’s clubs to being the Stereophonics, playing Wembley and the Millenium Stadium.
The reason for writing this op is the release of the Phonics 4th album, You Gotta Go There To Come ...

Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
assistant_14
Advantages: Great lyrics that really mean something with good music.
Disadvantages: Let me know if you can find any.
The 8th of March 1999 was a very special day for the Stereophonics. This day saw the release of their 2nd and by far the best album to date. The Stereophonics are a very special band who formed many years ago under the name of “Tragic Love Company” but then stole the name from lead singer Kelly Jones’ dads gramophone. It was called a monophonic but now with the band playing in full stereo they decided to name themselves the Stereophonics. ...

sheer brilliance
Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
Gemgemmings
Advantages: full of superb songs
Disadvantages: n/a
When listening to this album don't make the mistake by starting listening to the released tracks. The rest of the album is easily on par with their first, if not better. Tracks like 'Is yesterday tomorrow today,' 'A minute longer,' and 'I stopped to fill my car up' show the talent of this band, and they have a lot of it, i defy anyone to not like the Stereophonics they are one of the best and most original bands of the 90's with big things ahead of ...

Must do better next time
Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
bjlangley
Advantages: The singles
Disadvantages: the last song is dire
Now don't get me wrong, this is a good album. It just doesn't live up to the promise of the first. Other than the singles the rest of the album is only average, and I find the last song on the album is too slow, with Kelly Jones whining along for me to listen to. By all means by the album, just don't believe all of the hype. They're capable of so much more! The best song is Just Lookin' and the worst song they've ever done is I Stopped To Fill My ...

The Stereophonics with even more maturity
Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
Modena
Advantages: Provocative, classy, excellent vocals
Disadvantages: Can be a bit dull at times
The Stereophonics’ second album, released in 1999 amid high expectations from their excellent debut, Word gets around… and we were not let down. 13 tracks, 5 releases, 5 excellent videos (not on the CD, but available on video/DVD) this is one of my favourite albums ever.
It starts off pretty loud, but bland, with “Roll up and shine” this is a good song, but not the highlight of the album by a few miles. Then it gets better with “the Bartender and ...

...and decided to buy their Performance and Cocktails album to sample more. The album is orgasmic and stayed in my CD player for months. The whole album is an extention of the chart hits and is superbly put together. I am not the greatest fan of Oasis and Blur and tend to find a lack of depth to their songs. Stereophonics manage to extend their music in the same way that Verve offer a lot more joy in their songs, Give us more. ...

Stereophonics Stormer!!
Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
laurajones
Advantages: value for money, songwords, good tracks
Disadvantages: none really
'Performance and Cocktails', the 2nd album produced by the Stereophonics is really amazing. I absolutely love 'the bartender and the thief' as it has a really catchy beat. The album, priced at around £15 for the CD contains 13 tracks which are all good. The album was a nominee for the Brit. awards 2000 and i'm not surprized!! The cover of the CD is a really good design and the CD leaflet contains all the song words which is really helpful. I would ...

Not as good as their last one
Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
paintpastelprincess
Advantages: Mostly good songs
Disadvantages: The 1st album was better
Performance and cocktails is much more commercial that Word gets round, or it could just be that it’s more popular, I can’t decide whether the sound has changed or not. Well it’s certainly popular if nothing else, it seems that almost everyone I know has a copy of this album. Kelly definutly hasn’t lost his story telling ability and his voice is sounding as gravely as ever. The problem with his album is that there are no real stand out tracks, it ...

Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
livvy
Advantages: you'll love it
Disadvantages: you'll hate it, it's one way or the other
I can say that I am a particular fan of the Stereophonics mainly cos of their lead singer’s mellow voice. After ‘The Bartender and the Thief’ shot them to pop fame I listened to some of their older tracks and was inspired. But somehow this album just seems to have quite a few of those tracks that you catch on to. Tracks like the aforementioned ‘Bartender and the Thief’ make you want to sing as you are driving along, as ...

Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
DaGeeza
Advantages: Catchy tunes, good lyrics, very rock
Disadvantages: None I can think of
Performance and Cocktails is the second album produced by the Stereophonics, following the hugely successful debut album 'Word Gets Around'. It has become platinum and reached number 1 in the album charts, and has been moving in and out of the top 10 since it was released. Whereas 'Word Gets Around' focuses on life in Cwmaman, 'Performance and Cocktails' relates more to the experiences of the group as they travelled around. This album contains the ...

What a follow up !!
Review of Performance And Cocktails - Stereophonics by
petty
Advantages: Inspiring
Disadvantages: How can you top an un-topable album ??
Due to huge success touring the world in the late 1990's. The boyz from the valleys had to produce a follow up album to Word Gets Around. It took form in the shape of the new album "Performance and Cocktails".The success of the singles released from the second album are outstanding.Ground breaking and record breaking concerts abroad and at home in Wales, the concert in Morfa Stadium, SWANSEA, is possibly the best gig i have ever been to, next to Oasis ...
