Advantages: 18 tracks and some excellent tunes Disadvantages: You've probably heard them all before
When you first listen to this album you'll be surprised how familiar all the tracks are. Thats because every one is either on an advert or TV/Film soundtrack. If you've heard him live though you may be slightly disappointed as it lacks the edge of his his live performances. There is a lot of different styles but at the same time a lot of similarity and repetition. A few excellent tunes, "Natural Blues", "Why does my heart....", "Porcelain" & "My Weakness" ...

Advantages: Atmosphere, sound, lighting, tunes Disadvantages: Moby's voice (but what the hey!)
I think it's well established that this is a classic album, so if I may, I'll go on about his "Play" tour which I caught at the Point Theatre Dublin on December 29th 2000. I really wasn't sure if he would be able to cut it live - would we just hear a backing track, albeit a very fine one?
Although a lot of the music was obviously pre-recorded, it didn't matter, as Moby himself sang live, as did the brilliant backing singer (from Manchester), who ...

Advantages: Why does my heart Disadvantages: feel so bad
Man of the moment moby. I first took notice of this man on the release of tomorrow never dies the bond film. You see moby did a re mix of the bond music and it rocked, I loved it, so I kept an eye out for him and sure enough his name poped up again and now everyone loves him, making this album no 1. Hits such as natural blues getting a re release and why does my heart and porcelain. Moby is music god cos he knows what people want to listen to. He ...

Advantages: Great mix of rhythms, not too "dancy" Disadvantages:
I originally bought this album merely because I saw it on special offer online and thought if I didn't like it then I would flog it again. However having listened to it, I now really like it, having originally bought it for the single Porcelain - I know this seems like an expensive way to get one track. Overall I am not that much of a dance music fan, but this album has changed my outlook somewhat. There is a good range of tracks, although Porcelain ...

Advantages: Consistantly excellent songs throughout Disadvantages: Only 63 minutes
From the first time I heard "Honey" from Play, I was hooked. There are really two different sounds mixed onto Play. The first half of the album, which is my favorite of the two samples all old soul record type sounds. Songs Like "Run On", "Find My Baby", are kind of line old barber shop quartet songs, only with that Moby twist. The second half is similar to an earlier Moby release "Ambient" (also recommended). These are light, airey tunes with basically ...

Advantages: Original and well produced Disadvantages: Sounds exactly the same live...
This is the geezer who is probably best known for the fact that he draws cartoons for his videos, and a long time ago, Ron Dixon from Brookside had a van with the same name.
Moby takes this whole 'I'm going to do everything myself' too far. He wrote, performed, produced, engineered and mixed this album by himself. A tad silly, no? Well yes. He probably had to do a hell of a lot of work, but by cutting out the middlemen he's probably made himself ...

Advantages: The sound of now. 6 hit singles and a high quality overall. Disadvantages: Over-familiarity due to all the tracks being used for TV ads
I've yet to hear of anyone who doesn't love this album. It's taken a while to make its mark, having been released early last summer, but the cream always rises to the top.
Fusing superlative ambient melodies and etheral vocals to often pounding rhythms, one marvellous track follows another, and another.
The 18 tracks are sequenced in a way that captures your attention (the hypnotic "Find My Baby" could make the dead groove), then keeps it courtesy ...

Advantages: Catchy tunes, a lot of singles, very popular Disadvantages: None
Moby is an artist that I didn't fancy listening to to much at first. At the time when I first heard the album, he had only had one single released, and that wasn't all too brilliant.
However, the album hasn't recieved enough praise. It is one of the best albums, if not the best in the year. It is so varied and each of the tunes is a great one - there aren't any on the album that are too annoying or dislikeable.
If you like Moby's music, or know ...

Advantages: Few great songs, lots of well-known ones. Disadvantages: Some very average tracks.
This is Moby's most famous album to date and the one which has brought him international fame. Aside from the numerous number ones, this album also has every track being featured in an advertisement. Bizaare, but true.
There's Porcelain and Natural Blues, and Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? All great tracks. There're also a few you'll probably recognise from adverts, but didn't know were by Moby. Welcome surprises. The quality of the album suffers ...

Advantages: Lots of songs, most are good Disadvantages: some duds, but not many
...buy for music lovers. The play album is, i would say, moby's best yet, with some really classy tunes that stay humming in your head for ages. Apart from the classics Porcelain and Natural Blues, there are some other gems on this generous helping of musical wonder. Most notably are numbers 1, repetitive but superb, 13, unlucky number but an excellent song and of course 15, i think you will all love that. Pick it up at Woolworths, HMV or Vigin and i ...

Advantages: Relaxing but makes you dance all in one Disadvantages: None
...when i first put the play album in my cd player.
This album is the ultimate CD not only to relax to but to also get you going. It starts off with the more relaxing songs like "porcelain" and "Natural Blues" but then mixes in with them you can find a more of a rock + dance influence. The song "bodyrock" makes you wanna do just that, it has a great beat that will get you dancing straight away.
There are songs on this album for every type of music ...

Advantages: It has LOADS of good songs on it, unlike other albums, which hold a few good ones, and the rest bad!!! Disadvantages: Erm............not really any! (by my standards)
This album Moby - Play, is quite old, now so people who are sitting out there and have not bought this yet, then get up off of your ass and go and buy it! I can probably safely say that most people have this album as it was and still is advertised everywhere without you knowing! This album has LOADS of songs which are featured all over the TV! If you watch TV then you must have heard a lot of the songs on this album as people think they are SO good, ...

Advantages: He did it all himself Disadvantages: The tracks are not that different
...enough by this album to play it again and again, dispite the album title telling me to!
I do admire Moby, the man himself. The inlay describes his views on life, and he is a very intellectual man, and live, he does perform well. Moby plays all of the instruments on this album, and also produces, mixes and engineers it, which is a great achievement for anybody, especially as the album has done so well.
I have warmed to the album since playing ...

Advantages: Something for everyone Disadvantages: Some songs can be a bit repetative
Having not thought much of Moby's previous albums, I was a touch hesitant to delve into "Play", but after much pushing from my friends, I listened to it.
And my, my, my - was it good? YES! From The opening bars of "Honey" right down to the last note of "My Weakness", it is a music journey through the mind of the shaven headed American.
It features tracks that particularly stand out - such as the swooshing "Porcelain", the gospel-choir-esque ...

Advantages: Original Disadvantages: Sometimes too deep
This is perhaps one of the most desired albums of this new century, and quite rightly so! This particular album has rightly earned itself rave reviews with the critics, and you can't go a couple of minutes without hearing one of the many brilliant tracks from the album on the television, on the radio or in the cinema etc. Unsurprisingly each and every track has been copyrighted in some way or another for usage in movies or adverts etc. highlighting ...
