Advantages: Relaxing, calm, Something for everyone Disadvantages: Can be too slow at times
The first time that I heard of Moby was when he released 'Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad', which was great, but I am not in the habit of buying albums after hearing just one track. Then came the follow-up: Natural Blues, this did it for me. I don't what it was about this song, but it made me buy the album. And what an album it is, 18 tracks with something for everyone. There are some hip-hop type tracks, some dance-influenced tracks, and then there ... ...have been released from the album, all very good! The music has an emotional warmth to it that makes it very easy to listen to, this is most evident in Porcelain, the most successful single, and, for me best track on the album. This music is quite different from Moby's earlier work (or at least what I have heard of it), with it being relaxing and calm, rather than rave or speed-metal. Anyone who wants to listen to a piece of musical genius, or just ...

Advantages: All 63 minutes and 14 seconds of it Disadvantages: ..........?
This album is good. Very good. But you already knew that, over half of it has already been featured on TV advertisements in the UK and the album itself remained one of the top 5 selling albums for over half a year. The appeal to me is the vast range that Moby, aka Richard Melville Hall, covers effortlessly - a blend of slow melodic tracks such as the hits "Porcelain" and "Why Does My Heart Feels So Bad?" to the techno-infused "Bodyrock" and "Machete". ... ...could only say that the length makes it seem rather tedious nearer the end. A very small price to pay for what is an absolute gem of an album. There isn't a single bad track here, only tracks that aren't as good as the exceptionelly brilliant others. If you don't own a copy of this album, you must be mad. Or deaf. ...

Advantages: When its good its very good Disadvantages: when its bad its forgettable
Probably like many others, I bought the cd on the strength of the singles. I have now had it more than a month so I cant be accused of not giving it a try. The singles I like ( especially natural blues ), but the rest of the tracks tend to blend into each so I sometimes cannot tell which track is which. Although there are a lot of tracks they tend to be quite short 2-3 minutes. Its almost as if he is scared people will not like them so thinks if ... ...a slight variation they wont switch off.
Even now, I could not hum a track that wasnt a single. Perhaps even more damming is that this is an album that has all its tracks licenced for adverts. I recently read a list of the adverts involved and I have seen some of them since and have not been able to recognise them. When music has this non effect, something has obviously gone wrong somewhere. ...

Advantages: Great Music, different, thought provoking Disadvantages: A bit repetitive
...of the songs on the Play album contain about 5/6 words repeated over and over again. Examples of this would include songs such as Porcelain where the word Women must be repeated....hmmm...well around 2/300 times. Well I may be exaggerating slightly but you get my drift I wish the man would learn some new words so you could sing along with pride. Don't get me wrong I like the album and respect the man a great musician, I just find this really annoying ...

Advantages: pure brilliance...absolutely beautiful Disadvantages: none
Play was given to me as a gift in christmas '99. I wasn't sure at the time, the only track I'd heard by him was the brilliant James Bond theme adaption, which wasn't even on the album. But, man, it was one of the best cd's I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. It seemed to be a little reminder from God that he existed...the God in question undoubtedly being Mr. Moby.
From the first track to the last, you couldn't ask for a better couple ... ...and every one is shameless perfection. The multitude of instruments used is simply amazing, and each track is blended sublimely, and words cannot convey for the emotion that almost every track provokes, whether it be happiness, anger or sadness, the album covers the entire spectrum!
Words however can seldom accompany such musical perfection, but when they do, they are relevant and thought provoking(especially the sky is broken). It would be hard ...

Imagine if Enigma, Fatboy Slim and your all American Choir got together for a jamming session. It could just sound something like this! This album is a fusion of musical influences and, boy, does it work! Whilst the stand out tracks may be "Porcelain" "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" "Bodyrock" "Natural Blues" and "Everloving" the other tracks come pretty close........check out the piano in "Rushing". Some of tracks sound a little out of place but ...

A bit slow off the ball I know but I've only just bought Moby - Play. Sitting here as I write, listening to it, I have to say it is an excellent album. I didn't realise that Moby had actually wrote alot of the songs on the album until I heard them.
To anyone who thinks they have never heard a Moby song - chances are that you have. Most of the songs on the album have been used in films or adverts - many will surprise you!
It definately is an album ...

Advantages: wide range of music types Disadvantages: some tracks don't follow on from each other that well but is this important?
Play is has finally brought Moby into to music Premiership!Rejuvinated techno king Moby has combined chilling tunes such as the Chart successful 'Porcelain' (a true spine tingler) and 'Why Does my Heart Feel so Bad' with the likes of 'South Side', which is not all that unlike Jurassic 5, and 'Rushing' which personally I think sounds a bit like the Sneaker Pimps 'underground'.
All tracks have been written, played, mixed and produced by Moby himself, ...

...new-age mumble that accompanies it. Play finds its own groove but by the end of the album its become a rut - perhaps it should have been called 'repeat'. If you like this then I think any album by Spiritualized will be a revelation - inventiveness beyond the first few tracks. Rather than fork out for this, canny listeners will have got the free sampler from The Observer a few months back and contented themselves with the knowledge that they had got ...

Advantages: Brilliant! Disadvantages: Few boring songs towards the end.
...or not I should but Play after hearing mixed reports from my mates, but I'm glad I did. His music has changed so much over the last couple of years and this new mixture of sounds is by far his best work yet. The first part of the album is brilliant, the songs are very emotional, you'll be nodding your head to them at the very least, but towards the end of the album they start to get slightly boring (except for #17, I love that one!) Its not really ...

Play is an excellent album from Moby, he’s one hell of an excellent artist. I just love his music, it’s catchy, it’s inspiring, it’s different and the video’s are just great.
I love the song ‘Why does my heart feel so bad’ it’s just a great tune, and ‘Natural Blue’s’ another very good song. It’s really good techno music and if you like that kind of thing then you will love this ... ...you can’t find something that you like then your listening to the wrong music. I think ‘Porclain’ is a really good single from the album, It’s uplifting track and you can listen to it again and again, without getting tired of it. A very good album. Worth buying if you like his released singles. ...

Advantages: Excellent music Disadvantages: CD is too short!
...I promise you it's not. Play is quite simply the best CD we have listened to in a very long time, when friends visit we often play it and they all inevitably comment on how good it is.
Oon the strength of Play we also bought another CD of his but have to admist that it is not nearly as good. Perhaps with PLay he finally fond his niche in the music world. Incidentally, Moby is absolutely the best music for long, passionate encounters with the person ...

After hearing "Why Does my Heart Feel So Bad", and absolutely adoring it, I decided to actually buy the album, and it was certainly a good choice. Mixing all sorts of music, some going back over 60 years old, Moby has produced a masterpeice, and definately one of the finest peices of instrumental work ever. This shows, that when done right, sampling old records and bringing them up-to-date CAN work, but only when done correctly! Too many have just ...
