Advantages: phat tracks Disadvantages: not as relaxed as his earlier output
Wiley is one of the founding fathers of UK grime music. He is the man that set Dizzee rascal on the right foot to massive fame and fortune. The way grime works is similar to Hip-hop in the US, rappers throw lyrics over heavy urban beats. These are the only similarities. Grime speeds up the Hip-hop formula, breaks it up and makes it more abstract. The beats are a mix of garage, dub-step and drum and bass (which can leave you feeling a bit disorientated ... ...up and slow-down techniques. As the title suggest's,this is a more 'grown up' album for Wiley. It's defenitely darker, with darker themes such as gangsters and kids going off the rails. The beats and lyrical delivery are also alot harsher and intense, with Wiley almost shouting at the listener in certain points. Overall i enjoyed his previous mainstream album 'Walking on thin ice', which was looser in production style but more relaxed (which is how ...
