Advantages: An excellent album of music, fantastic from start to finish. Disadvantages: I fail to think of any.
Released in 1997, 'Polythene' remains to be my favourite Feeder album right to this very day. From start to finish this album is absolutely excellent, always the music is packed full of energy and never is the sound created here anything short of exceptional. Feeder is a Welsh rock band that has been going now since 1992, 'Polythene' was the bands first full length studio album and comes complete with thirteen tracks totalling over 51 minutes of ... ...debut album is a highly impressive one and certainly the music has plenty to offer.
Starting with 'Polythene Girl', immediately the album grabs you and not once does the sound created here fail to impress. The drumbeats are powerful throughout, the guitar riffs are absolutely excellent, and the vocal performance of Grant Nicholas never fails to make me smile. The album is incredibly well structured, the progression of the album is flawless and every ...

...is Feeder’s finest album.
Polythene is the band’s first full album, before Polythene, they released a 2 track EP, the Two Colours EP (which is very rare but can be found on Ebay), and Swim, a mini album (which has literally “Resurfaced”), then Polythene was released in 1997 with two tracks or so from Swim. Feeder then moved on to the brilliant Yesterday Went Too Soon album and then the current Echo Park album.
Apart from ... ...natural to want to add Polythene to the collection, especially after hearing a few good songs from this album off what was Napster and IRC.
>>About The Polythene CD
Imagine my surprise when I saw this available at Virgin megastore for £5! (this was Jun/Jul 2001) There are 2 versions of this CD, this was originally just a plain CD with 13 tracks, but soon after, that was deleted and made way for the “enhanced version” which features ...

* Polythene Girl *
Opening up with some backwards guitars and a little synth riff the light hearted intro’s nice and cheerful and pretty good. The chorus is fairly standard grungy rock and so not bad but not particularly grabbing. However there’s an anger filled middle section that really stands out. Overall the song doesn’t initially grab you but is a bit of a grower.
* My Perfect Day *
A sad tinge of summer to this ... ...keen on the lyrics to Polythene Girl but these are better – not mind blowing, not Art Alexakis – but better.
* High * (Not present on first review)
If Travis ever made an interesting song (Miaow!) then I’d imagine it would sound similar to the verse to this song, while the verse goes more U2 but about drugs. Nothing particularly wrong with the song but it’s not particularly memorable. Wouldn’t turn it on, wouldn’t ...

...with the music....
1. Polythene Girl
A good start to the album, ‘Polythene Girl’ is a great song, with a fast and lively chorus. It is not my favourite track, the verses seem to get lost, but there is a good guitar playing throughout and the chorus makes an OK song good. “Polythene, Polythene Girl,
Wrap me up in a cellophane world, Polythene, Polythene Girl,
Breaking the seal, never though I would”
2. Perfect Day
Another ... ...a heavier, rockier sound to it than the first track with louder signing and guitars again very prominent. A great song in all respects. “But sometimes I feel it, You know how it is, You wake up in the morning everything fits,
I’m still hoping tomorrow feels like this,
My perfect day.” 3. Cement
Another strong song, with a rock feel to it again. Not as good or clearer chorus as the first two tracks, but is more of a lyrically ...

Polythene Girl
The album start off in quite a rocky mood, a kind of love song I guess – ‘Polythene, polythene girl/ Wrap me up in a cellophane world’ – but already with darker elements so typical - ‘Addicted to you/ ...Suffocate, elevate’.
My Perfect Day
Another rocker, this time pretty feel good – ‘You wake up in the morning and everything fits/ I’m still ... ...The first ‘slowy’ of the album. Seems to be about obsession with an ex-girlfriend, but again moving whilst being too humorous to be depressing.
High
The ‘hit single’ which was added to the album as a CD-ROM video too. It’s possibly the softest here, and quite uplifting despite that, which perhaps accounts for commercial success. Not bad, but not one of my favourites I have to admit.
Crash
A slightly rockier track ...

Advantages: video of high and 'Descend' Disadvantages: some weak links
This Feeder’s debut album and was released in 1997 on the echo label. This album has all you need from an Indie/Rock band with great catchy songs and also darker songs (which are my favourites). Obviously people would choose ‘High’ or ‘My perfect day’ as their favourite tracks as they were both singles. However my favourite track is ‘Descend’ this is classic dark rock song which echo’s of nirvana without trying too it’s just a class song. ‘Stereo ...

13. Tangerine All of the tracks are hugely thought provoking and highly inspirational. I have several favourites; "High" and "Polythene Girl" to name just 2. These particularly mean a lot to me as a result of their mood and lyrics. There is mostly definitely a song for everyone. Although the album is very upbeat and pure rock, there are the more mellow songs which ...

...look like Sylvia Plath, with Polythene Feeder prove that Pop and (I really hate this word), Grunge can make happy bedfellows (most of time.) So despite all the Smashing Pumpkins and Bush comparisons, pay attention and you'll realise that Feeder are Abba fans at heart.
