Advantages: Great sense of fun and music abilty, lacking ego! Disadvantages: The Automatic and Fiddy!
...the years, pushed particularly by Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley, and other ventures such as Warchild, is that an artist can perform live, or record a cover and still retain their credibility and not come over as a sell-out. Maybe it's just that people have lightened up a little, or maybe it is just because there are things like the Live Lounge, that encourage well-picked songs to do as a cover. Granted that the concept is not a new one, and even Jo would ... ...purpose built one in the Radio 1 HQ, and perform 2 songs. One would normally be a popular one, or current single. Usually stripped down and done completely live. The second would be a cover. This is where the beauty lies, for the bands are more than just stripped of their elecrtic guitars(there are exceptions), but, also their egos tend to be left at the doors as well. Take for instance the second song in on CD1. It is everyones most favoured Sheffield ...

Advantages: Great highly playable CD Disadvantages: Bad selection of some tracks, and often difficult to get hold of.
...the original idea behind the Radio 1 show (the idea behind the CD) was simply to hear the artists perform. The show became more popular because of these interpretations, and now is one of the most popular listed to shows on Radio 1.
The album is all-round fantastic, some of the singers I dislike intensely but I just cannot know their interpretations of certain songs. Songs such as With Or Without you which I loathed I now rather enjoy. I wont dissect ... ...out tracks that rocked my boat; or that turned me to stone.
First up a hysterical interpretation of Love Machine originally performed by Girls Aloud; now performed by the Arctic Monkeys. Clearly amused by the lyrics of the song the lead singer laughs and on occasions stumbles over his words but for the first time (to me anyway) the song is completely understandable. Nothing much has been messed with just the tone differs slightly, as the female ...

Advantages: Brilliant Covers, Great Original Versions Disadvantages: Data Listings on MP3 Players Is Sketchy
...I loved Jo Whiley on Radio One and especially the covers that the artists did on the live lounge. It seems to have got through.... I might have to try that tactic when I want a new suit *grin*
Anyhow.... The album covers are actually pretty non-descript. The front shows some guitar cases with plenty of stickers, a couple of Mike stands and a bright red label with Radio One live lounge emblazened upon it. It does a job I suppose.
The reverse of ... ...it on the radio, particularly Radio 1, and this is a pretty drab cover really.
17.: I Believe In A Thing Called Love - Lemar
I like Lemar. He's made it despite coming third on whatever crap reality show it was that he was born from. Interesting choice of cover, but it works. Soulful work from the new Lionel Ritchie.
18.: Hey Ya - Young, Will
Will Young rocks (No seriously, I'm not gay or a 13 year old teenage girl *points at liking Girls Aloud*) ...

Advantages: Some of the best bits from Jo Whiley's Live Lounge sessions Disadvantages: Includes some really odd ones that you might skip
Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley has got hold of some of the worlds best artists to perform in the Live Lounge. Not only to perform there own tracks but to perform another artists song in their own style. The Live Lounge has become an integral part of her show and becuase of its success, the Live Lounge 2CD was released. ...been a fan of the Radio 1 Live Lounge, sometimes it can be a bit hit and miss but I enjoy listening to bands doing a more acoustic version of their hits and some of the cover versions they do are really good. The basic format is that each band does one of their own songs and one cover song live in the studio.
This album is a double album with 20 tracks on each CD and features selection of songs, some of them covers and some the bands originals and ... ...he did it on the radio and it got a really massive response so I was glad to see that it made it on the wlbum and the Maximo Park song is another favourite of mine as well.
No all of the tracks works, Natasha Bedingfield absolutely murders The Scientist, why the producors decided that we would have the same song twice and to pick such an awful version (it really is self indulgent and laboured) is beyond me. The Automatic covering Goldigger does ...

This album has to be my purchase of the year for 2006. Very fun, impossible to get bored of, someething for everyone who listens to it. You will laugh and smile at some of the cover versions recorded in the Live Lounge and also fall silent to what are some amazing top quality live recordings.
I can guarantee that you will not like every single track on the album but that is almost impossible with an album of this kind. I would go as far as saying ... ...the album though!
So as to avoid being too wordy i will sum up each of the songs in less than five words!-
1. DOA - Foo Fighters - Flawless Dave Grohl!

3. Run - Snow Patrol - Blows the single version away.
4. Crazy - Kooks (Orig. Gnarls Barkley) - Stand out track, excellent!

...you that dont listen to radio 1 mid-morning during the week, Jo Whiley often invites artists into the studio for a chat and to perform a few tracks. ...to Jo Whiley on radio 1at lunchtime. She plays all your normal music in the charts but she also does the live lounge, this is were she invites bands and solo sings like the Arctic Monkeys and Lemar to cover other artists songs and their own with an acoustic live feel which makes your hair stand up on the back of your neck.
The cover versions that the artists have done are brilliant! They have taken a song and made it their own, there are so many ... ...all day and waffle on about them. One of my favourites is arctic monkeys singing the love machine originally sung by girls aloud is great you really have to hear it! With only drums and a guitar keeping them in time, singing a girls song that you can tell they don't really know.. they even mess it up half way through, but its funny and will have you singing along.
Another of my favourites is the kooks singing crazy by Gnarls Barkley, they sing this ...

One of the most popular radio stations in England - Radio 1 feature many new bands each week, speak to some of the biggest bands around at the moment and are generally notorious for providing excellent music, presenters, new music and interesting features such as the live lounge.
The concept behind the live lounge is to provide listeners with especially recorded live versions of their favourite bands tracks. This was a huge success and what became ... ...some of similar style other of something completely different and unexpected.
The album is highly successful in taking familiar and popular songs and giving them a very interesting twist from the eyes and ears of other popular artists.

I was hugely anticipating this album, and it did not dissappoint. I had it on pre order and, although I had listened to the tracks when first played on Radio One, I was still blown away by how different the tracks were. I am a great fan of live and acoustic music, and this albums delivers on both fronts.
Quality is good, originality is exceptional, value for money I marked a little less, simply as I feel all music is overpriced, but if you like any Live Lounge songs, I strongly reccommend you buy this, and the hopeful sequels. ...
