Advantages: Any album that can make "bop bop wheeee" sound threatening is great Disadvantages: None I can think of
This is one seriously great album. As a guitarist I love Tom Morello's style- from his inventive stuff ("Bullet in the Head") to more traditional style (Solo on "Freedom"). Zack's vocals are very emotive and suit their political message wonderfully.
The thing I really loved about this album was how it gave off the feeling that you were really there in the recording studio with them. This is due to Zack's vocals as he throws in various shouts such ... ...stupid when you're reading this review, it only adds to the music and helps keep the album alive.
The lyrics are excellent, and even if you don't like Rage's style but are interested in politics it is still worthwhile to have a peek at the lyrics to see what they think.
As for highlights of the album... my personal fave's include "Bombtrack", "Killing in the name of", "Take the Power Back", Bullet in the Head", "Know Your Enemy", "Wake Up", "Township ...

...that should bring out the rage in any music lover. Bombtrack is another favourite of mne, proving an explosive way to get the album going. Some of the tracks can be a little non descript at time such as Township Rebellion but this is only a minor niggle. Thoroughly recommended for even those with the slightest interest in RATM. ...

...like this in my life. Rage Against The Machine's debut album is a fantastic, pulsating and outspoken collection of songs that will stay with you forever.
The band's lead singer, Zak De La Rocha, is half Mexican, half American (there is special name for it) and was always upset about the way the US government or "system" ran things. It is this upbringing that inspires the angry lyrics throughout the album.
You know that this is album is going to ... ...start the CD spinning. The opening bass solo in "Bombtrack" is a fantastic example of how brilliantly the band member's can play their instruments. The guitar and bass have a lot of important parts during the album, and Tom Morello uses an FX pedal to form some absolutely awe-inspiring guitar solos. I recommend the lengthy solo in "Killing In The Name" as one to listen to a few times. Zack de la Rocha's unique voice is also perfect for the band, ...

Advantages: none-its an album. Disadvantages: none
this is the firt album- raw, powerfull , and politically blunt.
kicking of with bombtracks soothing start (making you turn up the stereo to hear it) and BAM it explodes.
then it goes into such classics as killing in the name and know your enemy- not to mention fistfull of steel and take the power back.
yes-evil empire is good but they will never repeat the pure brutality of that first album....a tragedy for the whole music industry and for all ...

Advantages: Heavy!! Disadvantages: Not for the faint Hearted
Rage Against the Machine are one of the modern day, true grit bands. Their songs are all heavy and usually have a message. The political messages behinnd their songs make the album a classic, that you can just listen to again and again. Featuring some of the greats, such as "wake up" (The song at the end of the matrix) and "killing in the name of". This is an essential album that all true indie music lovers should own. Their unique blend of heavy ...

This album jumps up and hits you in the face – with both fists. It is a powerful anarchistic and revolutionary album. It is like the sex pistols, but this time really pissed off and really able to play their instruments. There is some amazing work on the guitar, with great spiralling solos (both rock and in one case jazz) and the vocal performance of zack de la rocha is powerful, rapping away over the rock chord progressions. The pick of the tunes ...

Advantages: Raw power and gets across a political message Disadvantages: It can be a tad repeatative, but don't let that put you off
...I've heard by the mighty Rage Against The Machine. Their songs can be heard on The Matrix, 1 and 2.
This album, their very first, includes their most well known songs such as Killing In The Name, Bullet In The Head and Wake Up.
Bombtrack, the welcoming song on the album, has a pretty cool riff to it and is a catchy song... as well as Take The Power Back which works it way up slowly, keeping you waiting for the funky open.
Settle For Nothing is ... ...if not better than the rest. It's dark, eerie and I love it. Lyrics like this can be heard from this track 'Yes, I dwell in Hell, but it's a Hell that I can grip. I tried to grip my family; but I slipped. To escape from the pain, in an existance mundane...' here the song explodes into an awesome power in which your inner you can be seen head banging and bouncing off the walls from all the passion that is put into this song.
Buy the album and find ...

...competition, where as in 2005 Rage against the machine if a new group releasing a new album would NO DOUBT in my mind regain the number one position that they definetly deserve.
The cover of the album lets you know before listening to the album the rather un-comercial un-expected and the often immitated material contained inside.
