Advantages: The Original Script for Nu-Metal Disadvantages: Edge of the World
...introduction, Faith No More’s “The Real Thing” leaps from your sound system like a demented jackal; “From Out Of Nowhere” is a blistering opener that will knock you backwards and leave you gasping for more. Jim Martin’s aggressive riffs and Mike Patton’s equally combative vocals over Bill Gould’s Maidenesque bass and Mike Bourdin’s crashing tub-thumping are a fearsome combination alright. At the height of the Hill-Schumacher animosity, the BBC started ...

...dry. Congratulations dad, it’s The Real Thing!
The removal of Faith No More’s previous vocalist, Chuck Mosley (Who guitarist Jim Martin described while Mosely still was in the band as ‘An annoying pimple your underwear rubs against’… Not that anyone in the band was that keen on Martin either and a couple of albums later he was out as well) and the arrival of Mike Patton signalled a turning point in the bands career. ...

Advantages: A great rock album Disadvantages: None
...The slower, thoughtful Real Thing shows their ability to tackle a slightly different song as this is spacier and lighter than the previous tracks. The superb Underwater Love, a really classy rock song with more larynx stretching from Patten, is my favourite number on the whole record, a nice soaring chorus.
The Morning After reprises some of the title track but without some of the chutzpah of it, a bit moodier and deep and is the weakest song on ...

Advantages: Uplifting and diverse genre-bending metal Disadvantages: Absolutely none - unless overplaying is a disadvantage
...is what they call the Real Thing!
Opening with a triple-salvo of singles, first up is the glorious thrash-metal anthem 'From out of Nowhere'. The second you press play, you are sucker-punched with metallic guitar, twanging bass, and a divinely inventive keyboard hook. Once Mike Bordin smashes seven bells out of his drumkit, the song is underway, Patton yelling nasally at the top of his adolescent voice (he was 20 though!) about love at first sight, ...

Advantages: Mike Patton's voice. Great riffs. Groundbreaking. Unique. One hell of a ride! Disadvantages: Not everyone's cup of tea?
...on.
FNM's '89 release "The Real Thing" is a prime example of that, with people declaring it their finest album, and indeed, one of the finest metal albums ever. The lead singer, Mike Patton, was at the forefront with his vocal talents, going from singing his heart out, to screaming his lungs out, to even a bit of rapping. You can certainly hear his influecne on a lot of Nu-Metal albums, albeit comparing Fred Durst to Mike Patton is like comparing ...

...were a blooming good band.
The Real Thing is another important piece of the jigsaw that formed Metal into what it is today. Following on from the thrash metal of Metallica and Helloween, Faith No More took the music one step further with this June 1989 release.
Their style was akin to that of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, mixing Metal and rap with ease and passion. It features the great voice of Mike Patton and the excellent guitar work of Jim ...

Advantages: This makes a change from synthetic pop acts and manufactured bands. A definate for fans of real rock, or fans of just plain good music! Disadvantages: What disadvantages? There is nothing wrong with this album, and I am not just saying this, see for yourself! Aside from one bad song (bad in the eyes of the beholder) this album is incredible!
If you haven't heard Faith no more before and are thinking of trying them out, get this album. If youu already like them but don't have this album, what are you waiting for? This is one of my favourite albums of the moment, the singing is amazing throughout. The best thing in my opinion is that this is a heavy metal album but with a funky edge to it provided by the crunching bass lines. This adds a lot to the album and combines well with the gutiar ...

Advantages: Wonderful Disadvantages: It is not given away for free.
This album is a work of art. I had planned to talk a little about the best tracks on the cd… but that plan was foiled because I could not decide on only ‘five’ to write about. Each of the different tracks, somehow, manages to snuggle beautifully into the collective whole and, at the same time, have its own unique mood and flavour.
The lyrics will make you think; sometimes they’ll make you want to bounce around and other times the words will take ...
