I have just settled down to actually review this album after enjoying the great experience of seeing the band live twice in one week, during their March tour. When I saw the band I hadn't actually bought the album. The new material was blended in with their old and it was noticable that it was of a slightly more sombre nature in general perhaps than their previous work. Advantages: Some pretty good tracks
Disadvantages: Its very different to the Divine comedies other stuff

...Do or Mastermind. What differentiates Regeneration from its predecessor is that Hannon doesn't seem to deal in instant three-and-a-half minutes pop songs this time round. No Becoming Like Alfie. No Bernice Bobs Her Hair. No When The Lights Go Out All Over Europe. No National Express. The nearest he gets to it is on Perfect Lovesong. By now, most of us have recovered from the shock of The Divine Comedy and their new scheme. This CD was absoulety awful and is definetly a waste of money. But luckily I haven't actually bought a copy, I only borrowed the album off one of my mates. All of the songs were more a less the same, very sad and depressing tunes. Also the lyrics were not sung they were mumbled. Disadvantages: The new direction may not be for everyone

I had been expecting the change in direction, had already heard their first single, and so was prepared for their new direction. when I first heard the album I was a little disappointed, sounding as if it had a lack of self-conviction in the new direction.
