Advantages: Eleven wonderful rock songs from a band that have come of age Disadvantages: It's just too short...
...and restraint and with The Remote Part they have delivered it in spades.
Returning from my voyages I became aware of The Remote Part but shied away from a purchase because I’d somehow avoided the plethora of gushing reviews it received on release. This all changed with the inescapable Top Ten Albums of 2002 that came out as last year drew to it’s inevitable conclusion, where every single one included Idlewild’s latest effort and ...

Advantages: songs, music, lyrics Disadvantages: order a bit weird at times
...loved the album as well.
The Remote Part was released on 15th July, “You Held the World in Your Arms” was Idlewild’s first major single hit, reaching the top 10 when it was released. The second single released was “American English”. I don’t know exactly where it got to, but I heard it was an even bigger hit. “Live in a Hiding Place” was released two days ago, and I bought as soon as I could – on the boat back from Calais (just been to Paris…compares ...

Scottish Fiction Review ofRemote Part, The [ECD] - Idlewildby
Padds
Advantages: Much more polished and good quality tracks, still with some explosive moments Disadvantages: Threatens to lose its way near the end
...since their first beginnings. The Remote Part is in fact their forth album, and since recording this have changed again with members departing and new replacements. Their sound has notably changed, in early recordings they made as much noise as possible, whereas now with a little more experience and older have refined their style to make them one of the best rock bands to break into the mainstream in the last few years.
The album previously made ...

Advantages: truly beautiful and unique Disadvantages: none whatsoever!
...course talking about Idlewild! The remote part is their new album following on from 100 Broken windows. If you have ever listened to 100 broken windows and appreciated it by listening to it repeatedly then you may have had the same apprehensions as myself as to what The remote part may sound like and whether it could possibly live up to their previous album which was truly stunning!
I was not disapointed and have to bow down to these guys, topping ...

Advantages: Brilliant tracks, I have another new band I like Disadvantages: Now I have to buy the other 3 albums
...the initial adrenalin kick. 'In Remote Part/Scottish Fiction' can be described in one word.....smooth, and is the best example of a love song that you will find on this album, and even when it becomes more rock than ballad, the emotions are still evident in the lyrics, and then the mood quickly changes with the reading of a poem by Scottish poet Edwin Morgan. It may sound like a questionable combination, but I assure you it is pure genius.

The REMote Part... Review ofRemote Part, The [ECD] - Idlewildby
cidgreen
Advantages: It's Idlewild - you're not going to go too far wrong Disadvantages: It's not quite up to their previous high standards
...and the quietly pleasant In Remote Part/Scottish Fiction bringing the LP to a close.
Now, you will notice that I have failed to mention the most obvious comparison once in this op - that between Idlewild and REM. I can't stand REM you see, and I can't see how the two bands could be similar if I think one are excellent and the other are, well, quite frankly, utter pony.
But comparisons will be made, so I will simply say that if you like REM, ...

MY album of 2002 Review ofRemote Part, The [ECD] - Idlewildby

Advantages: Shows how far the band have come Disadvantages: Its too short
...found a copy of The Remote Part, 100 Broken Windows and Hope Is Important. It was probably the best thing I have ever done! I also managed to pick up a copy of the rare Captain too!
After listening to all 4 albums (The Remote Part being their most recent relese) Its hard not to see the progression Idlewild has made since they started in 1995. They have gone from the mangled instruments and screaming of Captain to the more advanced production and ...

Advantages: All the songs are so easy to listen to and seem to go past so quickly. Disadvantages: Probably not something you should listen to if you dont like Indie/alternative
...first two single from the remote part i decided it was going to be a worthwhile album to buy.
And how right i was proven. After buying it on the release date it has yet to leave the cd player in my car, and as such i have also managed to confince a lot of my mates to go out and spend a little of the cash they work so hard to earn on this truely amazing album.
A lot of the songs are very original with a good mix of rocking tunes and some very ...
