Ride The Lightning - Metallica

Advantages: 8 amazing tracks, great energy, great riffage, great lyrics!
Disadvantages: None

...see live, but this is Ride The Lightning, this is not a sell out album, so hear comes the thrash! ''''Line-up'''' Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar - James Hetfield Lead Guitar - Kirk Hammett Drums - Lars Ulrich Bass Guitar - Cliff Burton ''''The Album'''' Ride the Lightning was released in 1984 and was the follow up to the greatly successful Kill 'Em All album that was released only a year prior to this masterpiece, 25 years later and some Metallica ...
...metals history, it's time to Ride the Lightning. ''''Album Art'''' Basically plays up to the whole lightning theme by having 'Metallica' induced with a fierce glow of lightning, dark clouds in the background producing a few bolts of lightning and having the old electric chair in the middle, this comes into relevance with the title song 'Ride the Lightning' with the lyrics 'strapped in the electric chair' and I personally love the look of this album ...

Metallica - Ride the Lightning

Advantages: Amazing riffs, solos and the band has matured alot since last album.
Disadvantages: None

Ride the Lightning is the second studio album released my heavy metal/ thrash giants Metallica. Released July 27th 1984 and has since sold over 5 million copies in the USA alone. The album was released a year after Kill ‘em all (Metallica’s debut album) and in such a short time you can really tell how much the band has matured from ruthless teenagers to more deep musicians. The album deals with what some people would call stereotypical metal themes ...
...little bit more strong. Ride the Lightning- 6:38 A personal favourite of mine with probably one of the most addictive tunes you’ll ever hear. Ride the lightning brings us a story about capital punishment and the thoughts that go through some one’s head as they are awaiting their fate, really deep stuff. Again the lyrics here coupled with the riff make this song incredibly immense. If there is a song on this album that you’re going to listen to it ...

Headbangers Unite!

Advantages: Some say their finest hour
Disadvantages: There's only 8 tracks

Ride the Lightning is Metallica's follow-up to their debut album, 'Kill 'Em All' and while not as raw as the first, this is hardcore, head-banging, thrash-metal at its best. The band would go onto refine their sound in later albums, some would say water-down, but this early showing is full of in-your-face energy, grit and perhaps surprising to some, sheer musical brilliance. In this reviewers opinion, it's also among their best work. The Metallica ...
...and rhythm guitar, Lars Ulrich on drums, Kirk Hammett on lead guitar and the late, great Cliff Burton on bass. Hetfield here is starting to show promise on vocals. He's never had the greatest voice, he never will either, but it fits in with the style of music. Certainly on the their first few albums, the vocals play a definite second-fiddle to the music. Famously, Hetfield and to a slightly lesser degree Lars, are the main protagonists when it comes ...

So let it be written

Advantages: The perfect heavy metal album
Disadvantages: I'm afraid I can't think of any

...I have to say that Ride the Lightning is undoubtedly the best Metallica album out there. There are many reasons for this. This album might have only reached 100 on the charts, but this album contained everything that a punk rock album needs. James Hetfield is consistent as the rhythm guitarist, always providing the riffs while Kirk Hammett, Metallica's lead guitarist, provides the amazing guitar solos (mroe detail when I describe the songs). Cliff ...
...Fire with Fire 2. Ride the Lightning 3. For Whom the Bell Tolls 4. Fade to Black 5. Trapped Under Ice 6. Escape 7. Creeping Death 8. The Call of Ktulu All these songs are standouts, but I'll describe a few songs, which I thought were the best of this collection. Fight Fire with Fire is an explosive opener, which is perfect for this album. The slow acoustic guitar intro builds into a speed metal craze in full distortion! The guitars, bass ...

An Electrifying Ride!

Advantages: Vocals well done, great guitar and drum playing, awesome first half
Disadvantages: Production values could be somewhat better, not so consistent 2nd half

...from Lars Ulrich - it certainly gets me excited enough at times to start air-drumming along! And then there's Kirk Hammett delivering some mesmerising guitar solos as well. While there are musical lapses in Ride The Lightning, there are enough outstanding songs to make up for this. An electrifying album! ...

Metallica shock us with this electrifying album!

Advantages: Amazing songs, good vocals, one the their best albums
Disadvantages: none

...thrashy feel. Rating: 8/10 Ride The Lightning (6.37) This, the title track, has one of the best intro's on the whole album. The high pitched burst of guitar, followed by a thrashy riff, and steady drums is a perfect intro. As Hetfield's vocal's pierce through the guitar's, you notice his quite high pitched singing, but it's not like the singing of 'Axl Rose', because it has a very twisted feel to it, wich I love about this man's vocals. To be honest ...
...here is stunning, some very fast guitar work followed by a really melodic tapping solo, wich I loved. Rating: 9/10 For Whom The Bell Tolls (5.11) The bell's at the start of this song give it an eerie sound. The guitar is perfectly right on cue, with the lead fitting perfectly with the background chiming. This is a real Metallica classic, and more of a slow paced heavy song. The intro solo/interlude is very effective, although it's not the most impressive ...

Let it be written

Advantages: Seminal, powerful melodic metal album.
Disadvantages: kinda short (only 39 minutes long).

This is the second album by that little-known beat combo known as “Metallica”. This is from a period of time (around about 1984) when they kept their excursions into blues and country safely within the confines of their bedrooms, and were happy, instead to fashion some of the most ground breaking metal around. The fact that this album has managed to retain its power some 17 years after it was initially recorded is a testament to its quality. ...
...opens with an acoustic guitar passage reminiscent of medieval lute music. I would have loved to see the look on a 1984 metaller’s face as he heard this melodic piece of music opening what he’d presumed to be a Metal album. This quickly gives way to breakneck rhythms and crushing guitars, as James Hetfield sings a tale of nuclear devastation. The musicianship on this track, and indeed the whole album, is exemplary. Convoluted arrangements ...

Signs of genius

Advantages: Early enough to be interesting to fans of the later material and yet still good songs
Disadvantages: Trapped under ice, whoops.

...Under Ice made it onto Ride the Lightning. Anyway, Call of Ktulu is again, an epic song, this time though James gives his voice a rest is a stunning piece just short of nine minutes. Why don’t ‘tallica still do these fantastic, epic instrumentals anymore? Overall it’s not quite a classic but well worth having. ...

Ride the Lightning

Advantages: For Whom the Bell Tolls
Disadvantages: Trapped Under Ice

Death. The album is all about death. Metallica’s second album shows a sudden change in musical ability - this album rules. It starts off with ‘Fight Fire With Fire’ a great fast heavy track. ‘Ride the Lightning’ is another classic song which serves as a changeover between the average, heavy opener, and the best Metallica song ever… ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’. Track 3 boasts the best intro done by Metallica, ...
...have heard such songs as, ‘Enter Sandman’ or ‘Unforgiven II’, I still prefer this. ‘Fade to Black’ is an ballad-style song, slow in places, but fast-ish towards the end. It gives a rest from the heavier songs, but still carries the classic Metallica quality. With ’Trapped Under Ice’ Metallica seem to slip back towards Kill ‘em all mediocrity, but the rest of the album carries this and ‘Escape’. ...

Master piece

Advantages: Excellant
Disadvantages: None

A superb follow up to their debut album. the album is more focussed on moldies, not just the loud and fast guitars, although the guitars are still loud and fast. the songs are very intelligantly written lyricly, the song "Creeping Death" is about the tenth plague of egypt, the death of the first born. then there is other themes to the rest of the songssuch as drowning for the song "trapped under Ice", a nuclear holocaust for the song "Fight Fire With ...
...the best song on the cd however is "fade to black", this song is about suicide, it is excellant, starting off mellow and acoustic and building up to the powerfull outro. among these songs are the famous, "for whom the bell tolls" and "Call of the Ktulu". this is an excellant album that every metallica fan must have and even if you are not a metallica fan i would still recommend you get this cd. ...

Advantages: Every Song Is Great
Disadvantages: its a bit short

This is the second metallica album. This is the album that proves that metallica are excellent, their song quality is amazing and that "kill 'em all" wasnt an accident and they have the ability to produce another groundbreaking album. This album sets a sign of things to come, with masterpieces such as: "creeping death", the powerful "fade to black" and the brilliant title track "ride the lightning" the lyrics to this song make you think. this album ...

a spark of brillence

Advantages: Better sound quality... & het's not as high pitched
Disadvantages: het's still too high pitched!.. and the recording qualiy is still not brilliant..

Ride The Lightning is certanly by far my favorate of the old school 'tallica albums... kicking off with the deceptivly slow sounding fight fire with fire.... through to the amazing title song... then the equally amazing For Whom The Bell Tolls.... nothing is perfect tho.... there are a couple of weaker song on the album... the likes of Escape & Trapped Under Ice... but even they are good. The studio recording quality is still not up to the standard ...
...though not as bad as on the previous album, is still a little on the high pitched side for me... the album is nicly rounded of by one of the most amasing instrementals of all time.... all in all a killer album.. but still with some weak points... ...

Dawn of a New Age

Advantages: The list is endless
Disadvantages: None that I know of

This album has become a keystone for the thrash metal scene. It is arguable that if this album had never been written then there would have been very little in the way of thrash now. Metallica had finally found a sound that really worked very well for them. The guitar parts were also very tight yet the riffs were still inventive. The Call of Ktulu was one of Metallica's best songs and has shown that Metallica's metal is very classicaly based after ...
...good enough that barely a gig has gone by when they haven't played them, especially Creeping Death and Fade To Black. Finally MEtallica had proved to the world that they were the fastest band of their era with the song Fight Fire With Fire. This album was not only a big developement as far as the actal music is concerened. Metallica also tackled some more serious political and social issues, like the death penalty and the pain of terminal illness. ...

Ride The Lightning Another Metallica masterpiece

Advantages: Great thoughtful lyrics, great beat and tune wonderful
Disadvantages: Not as amazing as MASTER OF PUPPETS

...It thens moves on to Ride the lightning which is the best song and the bulk of the album really striking hard with thoughtful lyrics. it then moves on to Whom The Bell Tolls then onto the slower quieter Fade to black. It then has the slightly dissappointing Trapped Under Ice but comes back with the fast furious Escape. It then has the wonderful Creeping Death and finishes off with the instrumental Call of the Ktulu. Not as good as Master Of Puppets ...
