Ride the Lightning is the second studio album released my heavy metal/ thrash giants Metallica. Released July 27th 1984 and has since sold over 5 million copies in the USA alone. The album was released a year after Kill ‘em all (Metallica’s debut album) and in such a short time you can really tell how much the band has matured from ruthless teenagers to more deep musicians. The high pitched burst of guitar, followed by a thrashy riff, and steady drums is a perfect intro. As Hetfield's vocal's pierce through the guitar's, you notice his quite high pitched singing, but it's not like the singing of 'Axl Rose', because it has a very twisted feel to it, wich I love about this man's vocals. A superb follow up to their debut album. the album is more focussed on moldies,not just the loud and fast guitars, although the guitars are still loud and fast. the songs are very intelligantly written lyricly, the song "Creeping Death" is about the tenth plague of egypt, the death of the first born. then there is other themes to the rest of the songssuch as drowning for the song "trapped under Ice", a nuclear holocaust for the song "Fight Fire With ...
...the best song on the cd however is "fade to black", this song is about suicide, it is excellant, starting off mellow and acoustic and building up to the powerfull outro. among these songs are the famous, "for whom the bell tolls" and "Call of the Ktulu". this is an excellant album that every metallica fan must have and even if you are not a metallica fan i would still recommend you get this cd. ...

Ride The Lightning is certanly by far my favorate of the old school 'tallica albums... kicking off with the deceptivly slow sounding fight fire with fire.... through to the amazing title song... then the equally amazing For Whom The Bell Tolls.... nothing is perfect tho.... there are a couple of weaker song on the album... the likes of Escape & Trapped Under Ice... but even they are good. The studio recording quality is still not up to the standard ...
...though not as bad as on the previous album, is still a little on the high pitched side for me... the album is nicly rounded of by one of the most amasing instrementals of all time.... all in all a killer album.. but still with some weak points... ...

This album has become a keystone for the thrash metal scene. It is arguable that if this album had never been written then there would have been very little in the way of thrash now. ...It thens moves on to Ride the lightning which is the best song and the bulk of the album really striking hard with thoughtful lyrics. it then moves on to Whom The Bell Tolls then onto the slower quieter Fade to black. It then has the slightly dissappointing Trapped Under Ice but comes back with the fast furious Escape. It then has the wonderful Creeping Death and finishes off with the instrumental Call of the Ktulu. Not as good as Master Of Puppets ...
