Sgt. Pepper was accused by the media and the stiff previous generations of middle classes for inciting young people to experiment with hallucigenic substances. The media hurled themselves down upon the band, tossing insults at their creative lyrics and play on words within their songs.

It was only another few days, and they would be celebrating their fifth anniversary since their first recording session with EMI. ...the following: 1. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Lennon-McCartney):
It was Paul’s idea to make an album pretending to be a band different from the Beatles, the Lonely Hearts Club Band lead by Mr. Pepper. He had the idea during a flight, and once he reach earth, he called the other members of the band and told them to get into the studios again. The original idea was to make an album with one only track, I mean, different songs all joined ... ...messenger service’, etc. He wanted Sgt. Pepper to be Dr. Pepper, but there was a soft drink in America with that name. The song is fast, with good guitar riffs and with producer George Martin as an excellent orchestra conductor for the orchestra bits in the middle. The voices of McCartney, Lennon and Harrison singing together almost all the song are great, and the beginning is an example of how to play electric guitar.
'It's wonderful to be here, ...

Advantages: Some of the most innovative tracks ever recorded Disadvantages: Can be a little 'naff' in places
...at all...
Track 1: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (2.02)
Starting us off is the albums title track. This song brings back fond memories of the Live 8 event a few years ago, as Paul McCartney bursts in song. This is really a good opener - gritty yet refreshing guitars and crowd like sound effects give this track a very 'real' effect.
Marks out of 10: 8.5 - some of the lyrics in the second verse could be seen as a little corny. All in good ... ...the most memorable tracks on Sgt. Pepper's.
Track 8: Within You Without You (5.05)
Handing the mic over to George Harrison, Within You Without You had absolutely no input from any of the other band members but instead with a group of Indian musicians. This song changes the pace of the album quite dramatically, the sound actually being quite relaxing.
Marks out of 10: 7.5 - my only one reservation with this track is that perhaps it drones on for ...

...holidays and days out.
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was released in 1967, and the cover of the album is instantly recognisable. The four members of The Beatles are dressed in band costume, standing behind a large drum with the title of the album written on it. Alongside and behind the band stand waxworks of many famous people, including The Beatles themselves and Diana Dors. The difference between this and other Beatle’s albums, is on this offering the band were not “The Beatles”, but were “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band” and the band is almost a tribute show.
The album is available for £16.99 from HMV or for only £8.99 from CD Wow!
The album begins by the sound of an orchestra or band, tuning up their instruments, and in the background the ...

Advantages: Possibly the best album ever Disadvantages: No one can match its quality
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (S.P.L.H.C.B.) is perhaps the Beatles most famous album. Magazines and books have debated whether it is the greatest album ever written. Whatever your own view is, you cannot deny it is a classic and you probably have a copy of it lurking somewhere. Personally I don’t think it is as good as the Beatles “Revolver” album (hint - read my other review!), because although Sgt. Peppers is a landmark in musical history ... ...this. The rocking sound of Sgt. Pepper’s blends in well with the previous track, but also provides an eerily stark contrast with the final song.
The Album ends with “A Day In The Life” and is a collaboration between the two major song writers in the band. The song refers to two incidents that John Lennon had read about in the newspaper, “About a man who made the grade” and “Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire”. The first is the death of ...

Advantages: Some great songs Disadvantages: Some twee pop
“Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I’m 64?”
It seemed a far off question in those days when cute old Paulie was asking the question, but these days the boyish good looks have been replaced by the saggy jowels and wrinkles of a very old man, still with that hangdog eye expression, but somehow looking much older than his true age.
Comes to all of us in the end, I’m afraid, but we never really considered that those wild young things, ... ...and for at least one of them, the hugely talented but eternally tormented maestro John Lennon, that Daltresy-esque plea of “I hope I die before I get old” would come bitterly to pass. George Harrison has been another recent victim of the passing over sickness, leaving just two, good old Ringo ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ Starr, and Paulie. Why do the good always die young?
Has any of this got anything to do with their 1967 tour de force album, though? ...

Advantages: production, experimentation and creativity Disadvantages: not a sitar fan
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was the eighth album released by The Beatles. It was released on 1st June 1967 and it’s 40th anniversary will soon be marked by a covers album recorded by various current recording artists.
The impact this album has had on music over the last 40 years cannot be overstated. Listening to it today it still sounds like it could have been released this year. The production techniques and quality are immense and cannot ... ...from The Beach Boys (or Brian Wilson’s….) Pet Sounds.
This record defines modern music, across all guitar-based genres. It is sheer art.
Over the years there has been much debate over what are considered drug references, but if you ask me that is irrelevant, it’s a ground-breaking piece of creativity and musical expression. Much of it has a psychedelic feel fitting of the era, but is creates such a vast landscape of sound and a massive dreamlike ...

Advantages: Wonderful lyrics, great sounds. Disadvantages: Some of the tracks don't sit that well together.
...TRACK LISTING: 1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (2:02): The introduction. You can hear the band's loving audience laughing and cheering in the background. The sound is a cross between the regular Beatles' sound mixed with the sound of some sort of army marching band. 2. Pepper (reprise) (1:18): Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band thank the audience (who you can hear once again) and announce that the concert is almost over. It sounds very similar to the first track, but is more upbeat. 13. A Day in the Life (5:33): This track varies wildly, with calm but bouncy bits with prominent vocals to trippy and epic bits where the instruments are prominent and someone sounds like they are having an LSD ...

Advantages: Superb album Disadvantages: None to speak of
...differences emerged more obviously, but Sgt. pepper was the first album where they really let their creativity run wild and ended up producing their most individual, era defining work. Before Paul became an (albeit still superb to listen to) parody of himself, Lennon retreated into his own ego, and Harrison... well he never really wanted to be noticed, did he?
Although, many people point to Revolver as the best Beatles album (and the best album ... ...but alongside Revolver, I think Sgt. Pepper is better. Now I do own both albums, but I don’t claim to be an expert, like a music journalist in Q or NME, but I'll say what I think and. wait, those two publications talk mince anyway! What the hell.
Revolver has one more song than Sgt. pepper but Sgt. pepper is 4 minutes longer, highlighting the fact that the Beatles were trying something new, and wanted the songs to be more showcase pieces. ...

Advantages: Sensational album that redifined pop music, some exceptional songs Disadvantages: Need to have the 12" vinyl for the full effect, Within You Without You ;-)
The reviews here on Ciao are mercifully free of it, but there's an awful lot of pompous nonsense talked about this album. Pick up many music magazines, and you'll be confronted with something along the lines of "Paul's underlying vitriol toward John is indicated by the counterpointing middle eight, compounded by the recrudescence of atonal harmonics as the opus reaches its denouement" (I just made that up, but you get the idea). I think that, because ... ...lost sight of the fact that this is *music*, and meant to be enjoyed. And that's how I'm going to treat it here.
Everyone knows the sleeve design, of course, so I'll not dwell on it too much, but suffice it to say that if you've only got the CD or cassette version, you're doing yourself a disservice (quite apart from the breaks between tracks on CD, which completely ruin many of the carefully-planned transitions between one song and the next). There's ...

Its very hard to rate a Beatles albulm and say you don't like after listening to Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band I can definatlet see why!
