Advantages: It changed music forever Disadvantages: Not as complex as their later stuff
...It starts with Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band,a song about the fictitious band the guy created. With some great guitar throughout,it sets the tone for the rest of the album with its diversions and added effects. Then, the simple but endearing A Little Help From My Friends.Which, funnily enough,is about your friends helping you when you're out of luck and love. Not too much to it but it's nice to listen to and easy to sing along to.

"Follow her down to a bridge by fountain

Yes,it's a song about a drug induced state, and a tribute to Alice Through the Looking Glass. The words are,in parts, distorted and made to feel distant,to give the feeling of the band being out there. It's a simple but brillant song.
Getting Better is about a girl who makes a guy relax, let go treat the people around him better. It was recently brought ...

Advantages: An album full of modern classics. Disadvantages: It's only 14 tracks long
Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, is a great comedy album. It's nice to see that the Beatles weren't afraid to poke a bit of fun at themselves, and even though lots of the songs aren't what you'd call serious, they're still an awful lot better than some of the drivel that's created today. I'd love to see Oasis sink themselves to the level of putting a song like 'When I'm Sixty-Four' onto one of their albums, they're far too up themselves to do ... ...too seriously are Travis, come on, they did release a cover of 'Baby One More Time'!
Anyway, back to the album. Every song on it is a modern classic, particularly 'A Day In The Life'. Lennon and McCartney were fantastic melody writers but the use of lyrics here is so good, it's positively poetic.
So, if you haven't got it already, go out and buy Sergeant Pepper, guarenteed to raise a smile! ...

Advantages: The best rock album so far. Disadvantages: None
This is going to be a biased review because it was love at first sound when I first listened to the Beatles as a 14 year old in 1981, so if you don't like 'em don't bother reading this. I think this is the best album in rock's short history - a) because it was the first to genuinely create a concept album and b) because the numbers on it are almost all rock classics. It always seems a miracle to me that Lennon and McCartney were brought together ... ...the best two songwriters in the history of modern popular music so much so that I could almost become religious(!) Rather like Revolver and Abbey Road I listen to it sometimes with great sadness because I simply know there is no practically no one around today to touch their genius and kids have to be brought up on unmentionable trash like the Spice Girls and Steps. I am a musician so I appreciate fully what these guys did. OK - non Beatles fans ...

Review of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Beatles (The)
Advantages: Influential and fun pop. Disadvantages: Maybe too silly for some listeners.
...the band's most psychedelic outing, Sgt. Pepper is still my favourite. As with everything else from their '66-'68 period, the record is a complete mixed bag of styles and ideas. Simply rocking pop songs like the title track mix with orchestral ditties like She's Leaving Home and psychedelic sitar-fests like Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. Every trick in the psychedelic book was covered here, with the music hall parody storytelling silliness of Being ... ...of its kind, and When I'm Sixty-Four being... well, When I'm Sixty-Four. Some of my favourite songs on the record, however, are the less known ones. There's something enjoyable assuring about the single repeated piano note played throughout the whole of Getting Better; the sneakily dark side of harpsichord-led Fixing A Hole is sublime, the oft-bashed Lovely Rita is a beautifully simple love pop song, and the album's stand out is, to me, George Harrison's ...

...The Sgt. Pepper bit at the beggining is alright but also downright silly considering the wonderful music the Beatles produced before and after this album. It does feature McCartney singing in a fairly raw voice, usuallt the reserve of Lennon, but other than that it's little more than an album filler. With a Little help from my friends is a great song. But the original is terrible. Like so many other of the Beatles songs (eg. Across the Universe by ... ...way that Dark Side of The Moon, by Pink Floyd is remembered for songs on Wish you were here, Sgt. pepper is remembered for songs of Magical Mystery tour (strawberry field's etc.). Advantages: A Day in the Life Disadvantages: When I'm Sixty Four
Often cited as the greatest album of all time, or the greatest Beatles album ever, this was the album where pop music became treated aas serious art. On its original release on vinyl it came in a gatefold cover with a pretentious but striking cover made up of a collage of famous and not so famouse people of the time, so successfully lampooned by Frank Zappa on "We're Only In It For The Money".
The album is unusual in that there were no singles released ... ...distance the band from the commercialisation of singles. But what would have been a hit at the time.
As for the songs you have "When I'm Sixty Four" which sounds like, and was covered by Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen, "With A LIttle Help From My Friends" sung by Ringo , but this was covered to wonderful effect by Joe Cocker (with a little help from Jimmy Page on guitar I believe). "Lucy in The Sky" with it's cod pscychedelic lyrics , that's Ok. A few ...

Let me say this right off the bat - I'm a massive Beatles fan. Not just a passive, casual, 'enjoy them in the background' sort of listener, i have all their albums, lots of books etc and enjoy them all BUT Sgt Pepper is one of the worst Beatles album - There i said it Dont get me wrong, it is dusted with greatness (A Day in the Life, She's Leaving Home), but the dusting is a little light when you compare how much filler there is on this - Good Morning, ... ...Hole - These would have been b-sides in their pomp Even some of the better songs could be classed as 'throwaway' (When im Sixty-Four, Lovely Rita Meter Maid) and whilst the production still stands up today, it doesnt have the same hynoptizing effect as im sure it did in the 60's Dont believe the hype - Buy Abbey Road/Revolver/Rubber Soul instead ...

...stronger than time, chronology, reality. Sgt. Pepper is one of those works crossing periods. The Beatles had been doing lots of very interesting things. They had been doing rock n'roll (Please Please Me), they had been doing "commercial" products ("commercial" with the Beatles is not "commercial" with Britney Spears, naturally). To my mind, before 1966, their best album is "Help". And they started something new with "Revolver" where songs were somewhat ... ...Quite eclectic !
I bought Sgt. Pepper because I had been told it was the best album of the Beatles. Even though I like to argue, to contradict, to be original and unique, there is no doubt. It is not a suite of successful hits, of wonderful singles... So is Abbey Road, Magical Mystery Tour, Rubber Soul... With Sgt.Pepper, the Beatles show what is their huge talent. All the songs are bound, there is no space between them. The introduction of the ...

Quick review of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Beatles (The)
"I just listened to it and said to myself, 'God, I really love this album.' Still, today, it just sounds so fresh. It sounds full of ideas. These guys knew what they were doing. They're good. And they're inventive. I haven't heard anything this year that's as inventive. I don't really expect to."
That's how Paul McCartney describes his response to hearing "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club" Band earlier this year, and it's hard to argue with him. The album he and those other "guys" in the Beatles released in 1967 revolutionized rock & roll. The "splendid time" McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr "guaranteed for all" has lasted more than two decades - and that immensely pleasurable trip has earned Sgt. Pepper its place as the best record of the past twenty years. ...

Advantages: A truly groundbreaking album that still inspires today Disadvantages: Mainly written by Paul, so not a completely fair representation of all The Beatles abilities
This was the album of the 60s, inspired by the Pet Sounds album released by The Beach Boys. Bored of playing by the rules, Paul McCartney decided that the album should be by other artists, the Sgt Peppers Heart Club Band. This then gave them the freedom to experiment and write how they wanted to. Tjis may not be the strongest album they released, but it affected the music scene in a way that no other record has done since. It started the divisons ... ...experimentation ('rock') and those who stay on the staright and narrow ('pop'). The simplest of things was turned into an art- the cover of albums and is still regarded as one of the best covers used on an album to this day. Even if it is not as remarkable now in today's world, it is important to think about what effect it had in it's day, and how truly exceptional it was back in the days of 1967. This was one of the first albums to make such effective ...

This is still one of the most famous, if not the most famous albums world-wide. It is ahead of our time never mind its own time. It's a shame that this album came when it did, as it was a three year more or less continuous decline for the Beatles until their 1970 split. This was the peak, and it aint half a bad peak.
