...of twins; twins of the Siamese variety. Released in 1993, Siamese Dream was the Pumkins' first assertive stride toward mega stardom. From the outset it's clear this album is going to be some journey. Cherub Rock bubbles away for the first few bars, with each instrument melding with the last and building the sense of anticipation. Things become clearer after a fierce burst of electric guitar, reined in by a Chamberlain drum roll, and the song settles ... ...to ponder the awesome opening, Siamese Dream allows the listener breathing space with 'Disarm', a single release, which begins with a simple acoustic and some orchestral accompaniment. This builds throughout each phase of its three minutes, with Corgan displaying some vocal versatility as he breathlessly delivers some heartfelt lyrics from his childhood: - "Disarm you with a smile,
and cut you like you want me to,
cut that little child"
This is ...

Advantages: Faultless Document Of A Distance Genre. Disadvantages: Outright Offensive Question.
In the end the Smashing Pumpkins never quite eclipsed their contemporaries from Seattle who decided it was better to burn out than fade away. While Nirvana self destructed, the Smashing Pumpkins decided to ride rough shot over tragedy and farce. Their body of work is a polygraph of highs and lows but when the dust settles it is impossible to deny that in 'Siamese Dream' they have a bona fide classic. 'Siamese Dream' released in early 1993 is a thing ... ...outpourings lies a deep intelligence immaculately tuned into the mechanics of how good music should sound. It doesn't matter if your beer is classical, opera, western, dance or indie those who appreciate good music will know how important 'Siamese Dream' is. Butch Vig (now a Garbage man but Nevermind) must be credited with helping Corgan on production, the sound quality is crisp as if the band were playing in your head. Although 'Cherub Rock' was ...

...on it (track 1 on Siamese Dream). As much as I didn't like to admit it, it was a great song... Anyway I thought I may as well get the album, and I actually very much like this album, they have a very unique style which is very good. A problem with them in general is they can be a little bit samey but they aren't too bad and very listenable in general with some great riffs. The stand out tracks are Cherub Rock, Quiet, Today, Hummer (The first 4 tracks). ... ...variation. Unfortunatley the following 3 tracks (Rocket, Disarm, Soma) are in my opinion a bit poor. Smashing Pumpkins like to add some slower tracks in, which is fine sometimes, but these just seem a little on the boring side. The last of these tracks 'Soma' does pick up towards the end and has a great solo. Geek U.S.A the next track is a pretty good song too. Has heavy and light parts, in a nice mix. More good riffs here and an excellent solo too. ...

Advantages: Massive sound, amazing song structures, effective lyrics Disadvantages: Billy Corgans voice can be annoying
In my opinion this was the best album that the Smashing Pumpkins ever produced and on occassions it can be so good it hurts. Forget the fact that Billy Corgans voice can be so annoying it makes you want to scream, this album is all about the sheer size and solidity of the guitar sounds. Unlike many albums that try to create this kind of emotional rush, on this album there are no moments of subtle dissapointment. When the guitars kick in after a breakdown ... ...off instead of flopping back down. In the same way as Nirvana or Janes Addiction, 1993 era Smashing Pumpkins were masters at using a song structure to create massive body blows and giving the impression of total chaotic abandon.
The opening track 'Cherub Rock' was the big single from this album and paved the way for the bands success from this album on. This is not the best track on the album but is obviously one of the most commercial. The guitar ...

Advantages: Good lyrics, tunes Disadvantages: a couple of fillers
'Siamese dream' is a more polished record than the Smashing pumpkins' debut 'Gish'. As you would expect, their first album is an entry into the scene, and after that success, the following piece was always going to be a more polished, more produced album. It is home to perhaps the greatest pumpkins song. 'Today' has to be one of the best rock tracks of the nineties, with some great guitar rifts and brilliant lyrics. there are other good songs on ...

Advantages: Great songs Disadvantages: A bit more raw and less cultured.
...favorite Pumpkins album to date, Siamese Dream contains my favorite Pumpkins song: "Cherub Rock" along with some other great songs, including "Today", "disarm" and "Luna". Siamese Dream, like their first debut album "gish", has a much rawer sound to it than the more recent Pumkins' releases. It is heavier, more distorted, more powerful and much more emotional. Billy Corgans lyrcis are once again superb, and there is an array of songs, with hardcore ...

Siamese Dream is pretty much what you’d expect from the Smashing Pumpkins, angsty not quite grungy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course. Quiet is the first song I really like on the album it’s dark, grungy and brilliant. Hummer though would have to be my favourite track on the album. Compared to the other Smashing Pumpkins album I own, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, I would say that Siamese Dream is superior but if Mellon ...

...that stick in your head; Siamese twins, diamonds, honey, stars, space, god, rockets.. the metaphors are varied and eclectic, maybe confusing at times, as are the emotions, but the songs sound so heartfelt and heavenly it's hard not to fall in love with them. The album art is intriguing, pretty and kitsch. Key songs I would say are Geek USA, Spaceboy and Soma. Definitely a must for any Pumpkinhead, a great first album for somebody new to the band, ...

Review of Siamese Dream [PA] - Smashing Pumpkins (The)
Advantages: The band's defining moment Disadvantages: Some songs initially inaccessible
Maybe not. But it's pretty much as close to perfection as any other album I've heard. I do not make comments like this lightly.
Although the sprawling and superb epic that is Mellon Collie did its best, how could Billy Corgan have ever hoped to better this? From the amazing highs and crunching guitars of Cherub Rock and Quiet, through to the beautifully melodic Spaceboy and Luna, there honestly isn't a bad track on here.
Tracks 6-8 sum up the Smashing ... ...hard to categorise as a band. Disarm is an achingly beautiful and song, filled with emotion. This is followed by Soma (possibly the Pumpkins finest moment) which shifts from a slow melodious beginning to soaring guitar solos by the end of its seven minutes. Geek USA is an all-out assault on the senses, with barely any let up from its powerful intro right through to its end.
I should point out that I didn't form this opinion straight away, and I ...

...the thoughts in your head. Siamese Dream is, for me at least, one of those albums.
Why so? Well, the production is huge and lush, melding beuatifully with the well structured songs. Layer after layer of rich distorted guitar, played with flair and feeling, on a bed of tight, furious drumming and innovative bass...Billy Corgan's voice, an irritant to some people, works best on this album, because it fills in the frequencies not covered by the other ... ...glorious sense of devil-may-care velocity; the slow ones pierce your heart with barbed silver pins. This is not really a very original album in terms of musical style, but it represents instead the culminating peak of a genre; no other indie-angst-metal act has never bettered this album for sheer energy and verve, and I'm not sure anyone ever will...
But for me, the ultimate endorsement of this album (and indeed most of the 'Pumpkins material, despite ...

Advantages: A good mix of Billy's songwriting styles Disadvantages: None, really
This is my favourite of the Pumpkins' albums. I haven't yet heard anything from "Gish", but I think this album typifies early Smashing Pumpkins. The record opens with "Cherub Rock", a strong rock track, and continues with "Quiet", an angry guitar-fest, "Today", with its cute intro guitar riff, and "Hummer", a kinda sweet track. "Disarm" was a single, which is pretty good (acoustic-based, with strings to boot). My favourite track on this album is ... ...after a couple of minutes bursts into a huge chorus/solo section. There were in excess of 40 studio tracks used on this song, and at least 10 just for the first guitar solo! (played on an acoustic with an Ebow - crazy!!) Other highlights are "Mayonaise" and "Spaceboy".
The sleeve pics/lyrics etc are pretty cool. All of the lyrics are scrawled over weird old photos. Overall, this is a very good record. The material is consistently good, yet not too ...

...notch from previous offering,Gish , Siamese Dream contains the kind of songs that really do only come about once every 15 years or so. From Athems like Today and Geek USA to the sublime melody, beauty and sheer genius of Mayonaise, Billy Corgan and cohorts created an album that truly has been ingrained in the hearts and subconcious of grown grungers everywhere. In my opinion, this is the BEST album The Smashing Pumpkins ever made and one of my favourite albums of all time. The album contains a mixture of songs: rock, ballads etc all enhanced by Billy Corgans distinctive voice. Out of all the smashing pumpkin albums i have, this is the best. It is just a little better than Mellon Collie and the Infinite sadness. It has some of the best music dynamics i have ever heard, and also has some great guitar playing by Billy( Corgan,Singer/guitarist) and James (Iha, lead guitarist).
