Advantages: Paved the way for every great guitar band since 1989. Disadvantages: Slightly muted production, "Don't Stop".
...need another review on The Stone Roses?" On one level, you might be justified in taking that view. Writing reviews on albums by The Stone Roses, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin et al will always run the risk of carrying the cache of pointlessness. Those who love bands such as these (or other canonical 'greats') will not need any further eulogies to strengthen their ardour. Those who hate them will never have their minds changed.
However, ...

...pub the Long Bar. The Stone Roses are on the juke box. The Stone Roses were always on the jukebox. I had head of them before but had not really listened to their music before going to Stirling.. At the time their self titled first album came out in 1989 I was a first year but this time at Dumfries High School and I think I was still listening to Kyie Minouge and Jason Donovan so of course the Stone Roses passed me by. It was not until I had listened ...

Roses Conquer All Review ofStone Roses, The - Stone Roses (The)by
nigelpm
Advantages: too many, it's amazing Disadvantages: if you don't like madchester stuff
This debut album from the Stone Roses is without doubt one of the classics. It has raw talent, killer harmonies and heartbreaking melody. The Stone Roses consist of John Squire on guitar who is the true driving force behind the band. His guitar playing is exceptional and whether it be chords or solos he's equally amazing. He is backed up by Reni on the drums, the warm and inviting vocals of Ian Brown and Gary Mounfield (Mani) on Bass. They all play ...

...In a similar way 'The Stone Roses' eponymous album of 1989 seemed to sum up the whole of the period of the late 80's when once again youth culture was saying 'turn on, tune in and drop out (or maybe trip out!).
MADCHESTER
In the late 80's Manchester seemed to be the centre for what was most exciting in British Indie guitar music. With other bands such as the Happy Monday, the charlatans and the Inspiral Carpets they pioneered the Manchester ...

...with me.
When "The Stone Roses" was released in 1989, it didn't seem, on the face of it, particularly new or revolutionary - it was just superlative pop. But now it is evident that it influenced many other 90s bands - for instance, The Charlatans, The Verve, and, of course, Oasis, the Roses' successors.
It begins very quietly and unassumingly - it's about a minute before the first song, "I wanna be adored" fades properly in. But from then on ...

Enter the Stone Roses !
Wheres the link you say. Well the link then was, they showed me however intentionally (i'm not sure they knew the effect they had until their place in the spotlighthad gone) i wasn't the only person down trodden and left to feel like I had nothing to offer your local stockbrocker type. The reason I had nothing to offer, was i shouldn't have to revolve my life along other people's values. We in Britain ...

...have invented indie, but the Stone Roses showed everyone else how to do it. From the iconic cool of lead singer Ian Brown to the innovative stick handling of Reni this was a band that was much more than their music.
The Stone Roses were the flag bearers of Madchester fashion, brave new additions to the acid house explosion and heroes to every floppy fringed, baggy trousered young one. Madchester came close to recapturing that 60's feeling and ...

...shout about. They were The Stone Roses.
I Wanna Be Adored - Dum dum dum dum dum, a bassy intro just rips straight through your chest and from nowhere just comes this beautiful, chiming guitar. Then it breaks out of it's shell and the drums and guitar take off providing a dark and mysterious tone to the song. Ian Brown chirps that he doesn't have to sell his soul because it's already in him. That lyric always confuses me but nonetheless it still ...

Advantages: Album of the 80s Disadvantages: The Second Coming
The record company Geffen paid £4 million advance to primate features Ian Brown and his crew purely on the strength of their first, eponymously titled, album. It is such a landmark album in British guitar music history that £40 million advance wouldn't be have been too extravagant. The fact that their follow up album, The Second Coming' was the ultimate anti-climax is testimony to how truly groundbreaking the first album was and how the band collapsed ...

...who don't anything about The Stone Roses. There is a new 'Best Of' compilation which has just been released, but if you are interested in a starting point, you have to get the eponymous debut album. Unlike so many modern rock records, it is a cohesive album; it is thoughtfully sequenced and carefully laid out - which is why you must hear the album in its entirety.
It kicks off with the legendary 'I Wanna Be Adored' which sets the tone for the next ...

This, to me, is the best album ever made. You have a group with probabaly the greatest rhythm section ever, a virtuoso guitarist and a singer with tremendous charisma. It's the total package.
The album's also aged very well. People may associate it with the rise of Manchester music, but it still sounds as good today as it always did. The production on the album gives it a very atmospheric feel, and fair play to John Leckie for that.
Although ...

Paradise Review ofStone Roses, The - Stone Roses (The)by
SpikeIsland
Advantages: Disadvantages:
The Stone Roses by the Stone Roses is without a doubt the greatest album of all time. Well according to me anyway but let me explain.
The opening track ‘I wanna be adored’ captures the mood of the rest of the album in a manner that many have tried to copy but few have succeeded. That mood is dark, hateful, hopeful and shining. My favourite track is ‘This is the one’. The fact that this song never even made it onto single release gives you an idea ...

Advantages: Best album ever Disadvantages: There simply are none other than them splitting up!!!
This in my mind is the best album of all time. It may be rated at No.12 by Radio 1 or whoever it was but it is an all time Classic.
They dont know class music anyway. What do remember about my first experience of it??? Driving to Alton Towers with some friends with a taped copy of it in the car!!! Superb songs, all of them are right up there with the best. The thing is, they are all really simple melodic tunes!!! Easy to copy on the guitar. John ...

...an excellent album. Tne stone roses at their very best. There is a lot of depth to the sound - layered well - some tracks buiding up others opening with lots of noise in harmony. The Stone Roses (RIP) were the hidden gem of the late 80's / early 90's, and this their first album is probably their best offering. All 11 tracks are classics, which still sound fresh 12 years later. The first track, I Wanna Be Adored, starts slowly, building up the tempo and volume, easing you into the album. The second, ...
