Advantages: Two albums for the price of one, The live material is excellent Disadvantages: At times overdense production, Too many weak tracks on the studio album
...album. That record has yet to see the light of day but in its place Tori released this two CD set. A new original studio album and a live album recorded on her 1998 ‘Plugged’ tour.
The actual studio album (subtitled ‘Venus: Orbiting’) is an eleven track affair, which continues the move away from Tori’s original sound of one girl and her piano and towards a heavily produced studio sound with an army of session musicians. ...

Advantages: Like a breath of fresh air for a Tori Fan Disadvantages: Not for the new Toriphiles
After time to heal from her miscarriages and health issues, this is a very welcome CD for the Tori fans who thought she had slipped into an permanent depression.
This is a two CD set-the first being her new songs and the second is a live CD of some of her classics. It is definitely a little different than her normal style-there seems to be a lot more synthesizer and strange sounds coming together. If you have just discovered Tori (congrats first ...

Advantages: 2 great disks with plenty to keep you smiling! :) Disadvantages: None
...still has that Tori sound to it. The cd is perhaps more up to date with the crowd, though not as sounding as her other albums. Good songs to look out for are '1000 oceans' which takes her back to her melodic ballad values and 'Bliss' which is more up beat. 'Datura'is more of drumming machine experience but still with that Tori essence. There is alot of elctricity in this cd and lyrics are beautifully set out. A different venture for Tori as she steps ...

Advantages: live cd included Disadvantages: some awful songs
...this pile of garbage, ok to hardcore fans the b sides are nice and the rarities but its just an awful mish mash where tori is hardly evident and the band seems to take over, i want to hear her smooth silky vocals and the tinkling of ivorys not drums or guitars, the only redeeming point here is the live album which is pretty good but just fails to capture the true stage essence and presence of the she god that is tori behind her piano, buy the rest ...

Advantages: Two albums for the price of one, fantastic live collection, new and interesting sounds. Disadvantages: Some may find CD 1 a little hard going at first.
...recent album was never inteded to be one - it started off as a couple of bonus tracks for a B-Sides compilation, which was never released. Then she realised that more and more songs were coming, and the end result was the first of the two CDs in this package, entitled "Venus - Orbiting". An interesting departure for Tori, taking in less and less of her usual piano sound, and diversifying into more textures and some industrial stylings. Highlights ...

Advantages: Some good songs Disadvantages: Live album not particularly great
...Venus & Back ultimately proved to be her first step off the UK radar, but now it seems like her last real opus. It followed closely off the back of From The Choirgirl Hotel but with a more mellow and electronic sound. Tori said she originally went into the studio to work on tracks for a B-side album, and at the time I would have wished that's what had materialised, but not so now. I can feel the burn-out on To Venus', and maybe it was a general ...
