Trickery or Treat? Review ofTrick To Life, The [ECD] - Hoosiers (The)by

Advantages: Fresh, alternative, funky and bouncy Disadvantages: 11-Tracks kinda short compared to other artists
...of their debut album, "The Trick To Life".
The band cite some of their main influences as being the likes of The Cure and The Flaming Lips, and delving into the musical mayhemic melodies of the album, it is apparent in some tracks.
Stylistically, the band have incorporated a cartoon humourism to their identity, with outfits reminiscent of 70's colour and Scooby Doo films (check out the video to "Worried About Ray").

Track 10 - The Trick to Life
------------------------------------
Rather Jeff Buckley/Nik Kershaw inspired at the beginning but it soon kicks into a more powerful beat and the instrumental in the background is lot stronger. This track has a very strong 'Indie' feel to it and again Irwin's vocals are great and unlike the high pitched vocals are pleasant to listen to rather than chandelier shattering… a good track.

Advantages: Catchy, mix of uptempo and moody, refreshing, odd, lyrics, vocals Disadvantages: A few poor tracks
...released their debut album "The Trick to life" this very CD I'm reviewing quite recently and yet despite having had their first single released originally just through the net ("Worried about Ray") reaching #15 on downloads alone (peaking at #5 when the single was released on CD). We'd all heard the song and it'd got into all our heads despite many of us asking who they were.
Well The Hoosiers are a british-seweedish band (members are from Exeter, ...

Advantages: Fantastic debut with every song being original and catchy Disadvantages: Not completely original, catchy but not groundbreaking lyrics
From hearing the wonderful single ''Worried About Ray'', I knew the Hoosiers were set for big things. This catchy and melodic tune was soon making itself known to the indie-pop fans. Even though no one knew who this mysterious band was, everyone loved it. With their next single, ''Goodbye Mr A'' getting into the top 10, people expected big from their debut album, and they were given what they deserved.
The album provides sharp and catchy tunes ...

...lyrics and a great tune
the trick to life - incredibly catchy
money to be made - this is my least favourite, i think it's not as interesting as the rest
The album comes in four colours, and inside the leaflet there is more artwork similar to that on the cover. There is some bonus material as well but unfortunately I was unable to access it as I have an apple computer.
The lyrics are great, and i think they are quite easy to hear. An example ...

The Hoosiers Review ofTrick To Life, The [ECD] - Hoosiers (The)by

Advantages: Completely original Disadvantages: Not enough songs
I got this CD about 2 weeks before I was due to see them live and I have to admit, I didn't think it was the best music i'd ever heard. But after a few plays I realised what excellent and funky music they make, and some of the songs are truly beautiful. I would definately recommend this to everyone who's into up-beat pop with meaning.
The lead singer, Irwin Sparkes, has an amazing voice and can reach pitches that I would not even attempt. He even ...

Quick review of Trick To Life, The [ECD] - Hoosiers (The) Review ofTrick To Life, The [ECD] - Hoosiers (The)by

Very overrated, poor construction of songs. Very similar and weak in an instrumental sense. Very plain and the singer's voice becomes annoying very quickly. Only two songs on the album are decent . these include "Goodbye Mr. A" and "Worried about Ray". Both are in the same key and revolve around the same 3 chords. Although they seem to be very popular as both the songs are catchy. In fact that is the reason that i bought this album. But don't' fall for the trick of buying the album. It's not worth the money. It's a shame really. I am sure they are perfectly talented musicians, but their songwriting could be better. If i had ten pounds to buy a cd with. This album would defiantly not be at the top of my list.

I really liked this album; the songs are unusual (in a good way) and I particularly liked the track "Worst Case Scenario". I bought the album because their first two singles were fantastic and stuck in my head for ages. Defintely worth getting if you are a fan of all things unique.

Great Debut Album Review ofTrick To Life, The [ECD] - Hoosiers (The)by

Advantages: Very Catchy and Original Songs Disadvantages: At First i didn't like it but after a while i loved it
The Trick to Life is the debut album of The Hoosiers released on October 22nd and I think it is a great CD. The best and most well known songs are Goodbye Mr. A and Worried About Ray which were both released as singles and were played a whole lot on the radio proving them to be very popular. Some of the songs are more of an acquired taste and may take some getting used to for example Run Rabbit Run, A Sadness Runs Through Him and Clinging On For Life. ...

Advantages: Up-Beat Songs, Album Cover. Disadvantages: None!
...impressed with this album "The Trick to Life" by The Hoosiers. It has very catchy songs, some more well known than others.
The lyrics of each of the songs was well thought out, not just random words that rhymed with each other, which made the songs all the more enjoyable. A few of my favorites included "Killer", "Cops and Robbers" and "Money to be Made".
Although some of these songs have had a lot of airplay, they are very hard to get bored of ...

Advantages: First four songs. Disadvantages: change is music style.
I first heard of the hoosiers when i downloaded (my favorite track by them) 'worst case scenario' as the free single of the week from iTunes. Since then i have been eagarly awaiting the release of their debut album. My excitement was heightened by the release of their first two singles, 'good bye mr A' and 'Worries about ray'. In an age of downloading i decided that i'd rather have a hard copy of this album, which i had been waiting for for so long. ...

Advantages: Great variety on songs Disadvantages: Unnecessary instrumentals
Having only heard The Hoosiers' two singles before I got this album, I thought that the other songs would generally be similar. I was wrong. It has a complete variety, from faster songs "Worst Case Scenario", to slower, very melodic songs: "Sadness that runs through him". Also, after hearing the two happy singles, I was surprised at the style of music for "Run Rabbit Run", which almost has a dark feel to it. Some of the songs take a while to get into, ...
