Were the Roses the greatest band of all time? The self titled dubut album is widely regarded as one of the finest ever released, but that fails to tell the full story. "Turns Into Stone", a collection of b-sides and extended mixes, was released by Silvertone in an attempt to cash in on the bands popularity and as a stop-gap whilst awaiting new material. Advantages: Unbelievable Tracks. Disadvantages: To the true Roses fans it sounds a bit thrown together, to everyone else, it sounds flawless
This album follows one of the greatest albums of all time. As the Roses concentrated on producing quality singles after their debut album, they were too busy to produce a new album. The strength of Elephant Stone, Fools Gold and One Love strengthened sales of their debut album and the Roses obviously realised that they then had enough classics to fill another album (together with the strength of their tremendous B-sides).
