one of the best album ever
Review of Velvet Underground And Nico, The/The Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground (The)/Nico by
sandor
Advantages: cheap and wonderful
Disadvantages: don't know
The first wonderful album by Velvet Underground is surely a milestone of American psychedelic music.
The Velvet Underground are:
Lou Reed guitar and vocals (very famous and he wrote very good album also after the first dissolution of Velvet underground),
John Cale (violin, vocals and very good albums as single)
Maureen Tucker (one of the most important drummers in the sixties and she is a woman) played with a lot of groups as session-woman ...

Shades, hipsters and dark, dark rhymes
Review of Velvet Underground And Nico, The/The Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground (The)/Nico by
dave27
Advantages: Venus In Furs, Heroin, Waiting For The Man, Reed, Cale
Disadvantages: Run Run Run
...hip bands, the darkly dazzling Velvet Underground, the darlings of namedroppers everywhere. Back in the Seventies you were granted instant street cred and a reputation as a real wild child if you hinted that you understood the grim fascinations of the Velvets.
Now if their contemporaries, The Doors, are all about romance, sex and death, the Velvets are drugs, fetish and sleaze and Lou Reed is the perverse druggie to Morrison's Lizard King. Both ...

The dark side of the sixties.
Review of Velvet Underground And Nico, The/The Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground (The)/Nico by
doctor_gonzo
Advantages: inspirational
Disadvantages: none
The Velvet Underground and Nico was the first album from the most influential band in the world.........ever! This unlikely crew was brought to the public's attention (or not as was mostly the case by Andy Warhol).
Led by Lou Reed a former production line songwriter the band included John Cale an incredibly talented classical musician trained in the avantgarde, Maureen Tucker, a superbly unconventional drummer and Sterling Morrison, a great guitarist. ...

Velvet Underground & Nico
Review of Velvet Underground And Nico, The/The Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground (The)/Nico by
jamiegiles
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...produced by Andy Warhol, The Velvet Underground and Nico is one of the most important and influential albums of all time. The only record the group recorded with Nico, the disc includes the seminal "Heroin," "I'm Waiting for the Man," and "Venus in Furs." As with the finest films and books, each song provides a window into a world that most will otherwise not have experienced. "Heroin" is probably the finest example of this, with the rush and subsequent ...

Another Classic from the VU
Review of Velvet Underground And Nico, The/The Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground (The)/Nico by
SwissToni
Advantages: Classic songs & less feedback than normal
Disadvantages: No John Cale
The dynamic of the classic Velvet Underground line-up was that Lou Reed provided the ear for melody, while John Cale provided the vital avante-garde edge that made the VU so unique (and so noisy). The tension between the two produced some of rock's most influential music, but also ultimately drove them apart (and it was not until 1990s 'Songs for Drella' that they could bear to be in the same room again). When 'The Velvet Underground' was recorded, ...

The art of 60's New York
Review of Velvet Underground And Nico, The/The Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground (The)/Nico by
marcw68
Advantages: Full of classic songs
Disadvantages: Recording can sound muffled
...revolution had hit full steam. Velvet Underground weren't part of this movement and rebelled against it, more interested in hell raising and art! The front cover of this album was painted by Andy Warhol. It is simply a picture of a banana with Andy's signiture under it.
This debut isn't the best quality recording but has some of the best studio perfomances from Velvet Underground. They are raw and full of passion. It also features the late Nico, ...
