Advantages: A superb follow up, with a much more mature sound Disadvantages: It ends.....
It’s been about 2 years since The Music burst into the mainstream with their self titled debut album. It was to be the start of a quick rise to prominence as the band introduced a fresh look at dance/rock crossovers. With the debut album and a superb live show they won a large number of cult fans and saw them plastered over NME et all, proclaimed to be the next big thing. They took an extended break after Reading Festival last year and now a year ... ...their return and for the last year they have been trying to create something to rival the 2002 debut. At the time the album was fresh and the band were really pushing into a new territory. As I already mentioned they have a sort of Indie rock/dance hybrid style, which works well for them. A lot of other bands who tried it to the same extent as The Music seem to have failed, but somehow they’ve made it a success. The result has seen them headline ...

Welcome To The North: 5 minutes 10 seconds.
A good opening to the album, the guitar riff gives you a feeling of hostility and fear. 'Show me the knuckles baby' suggests ... ...a good opener.
8/10
Freedom Fighters: 3 minutes 44 seconds.
The first song to be released off the album, and what a choice it is. Powerful guitar riff during the verses and the chorus, topped off with good lyrics and beautifully timed drumming. Fabulous song.
9/10
Bleed From Within: 6 minutes 27 seconds.
This is my personal favourite from the album. The most original song on the album, it reminds me briefly of 'Paranoid Android' by Radiohead ...

Advantages: Some Killer Riffs Disadvantages: Dissapointing compared to their Debut Album
Do you remember The Music? There was a time when they were being hailed as the future of British music, with the release of their debut album, it seemed as they were on the cusp of world domination. But then, nothing followed.
But now they're back with their second album, "Welcome to the North", working with produced Brendan O Brien.
The killer riffs are still here, as we've heard from their first single from this album, Freedom Fighters, which ... ...a great pace.
But on listening to the album, there's something missing. Fans of their debut will have loved the dance music influence in their tracks, and this has gone. Instead, it sticks to a tried and tested rock formula, the band no longer seem to be doing their own thing, and trying to copy someone elses. Instead of the giant repeating riffs of "Getaway" and "The Truth is No Words", we have a more tried and tested Verse Chorus Verse format.

Advantages: Better than the debut Disadvantages: Not by much
Ok, first off, please dont get me wrong I like The Music. When I first heard the first singles I thought they were the next best thing and to an extent they were. However the songs on the debut album were, to be honest a bit hit and miss, but on the second album they did a much better job.
The thing about the second album is that it starts off wonderfully, the title track it fantastic and Freedom fighters makes me fell like i'm back in 1995 mucking ... ...of white lightning! Then, to me it all goes horribly wrong.
From 'Cessation' the Album changes tempo and becomes much slower than you would expect and gets rather creepy in places but maybe thats just me. The Music still manage to keep their style though which is a hard thing to do, and everyone I played the album to recognized the style.
Robert Harvey's voice is the one thing that stay's true more than anything and to me is definately the saving ...

Advantages: Rocking indie like a stone roses revival Disadvantages: not much
When i first saw the new Music video - 'freedom fighter' - i thought i recognise this band. Low and behold it was the Music who everyone thought had split due to an over pretentious, egotistical frontman (like so many before - stone roses, the verve + een guns and roses to an extent). The video though sturred something within me with a head nodding riff that made me want to dance like bez on speed. So imagine my excitement when i got this album for ... ...on full blast, (Christmas morning 01.00am). Rocking out to the whole album is a must. It seemed like every song had the catchiest riff that seemed all so familar, but i couldnt put my finger on it. Either way, if you like to head bang to a steroid sooped up happy mondays esque band, then these boys are for you ...
