...album of all time as Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not stormed into the UK album charts yesterday at number one. Coupled with that, two number one singles to date the Arctic Monkeys appear to really have hit the big time. The question is, are they actually any good. The short answer has to be Yes, but it takes a lot more than one short answer to really answer.
The band from Sheffield have been steadily gaining a fan base through internet ... ...the work before being signed by Domino and a debut single released in October last year hitting the number one spot straight away. The anticipation for the debut album was already at fever pitch and with 30 odd songs available to be downloaded the bands reputation was increasing rapidly. The four young lads have really stepped up to the big time and despite all the hype surrounding their debut I think it's fair to say Sheffield's new favourite sons ...

Let me count the ways. 1 - You are young. Therefore you have energy.
2 - You have that scruffy indie, couldnt give a flip thing going on. You hair is always messy. You wear Fred Perry. You talk utter rubbish in interviews.

Advantages: Big tunes throughout Disadvantages: Nothing specific
The Arctic Monkeys shot to fame in 2006 when the Sheffield-based Indie Rock band released “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” as their debut album. It finds Alex Turner leading the Psychedelic and mildly Funk-inspired band propping up the mid-‘00s re-emergence of British Indie music. 1. “The View From The Afternoon” To get the album going, you see that this one with a lively one which immediately livens up the mood as they attempt to ... ...with their heavy Post-Punk percussion and uniquely-adapted style of creating this progressive stuff. It is a big way to open the album with and is followed on with a suitable tune. **Five Stars** 2. “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor” This came as their mainstream breakthrough single as they came through with a banger of a joint, in which they are seen to get into a dance number. It is an attention-grabbing tune and amongst the best which they ...

Four Sheffield lads with guitars eh…. Who'd have thought it.
The Arctic Monkeys tale is an intriguing one indeed. Advantages: A great debut album Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
A phenomenon or a fad? Love them or hate them? Regardless of what you think of the Arctic Monkeys, credit must be given through what they've achieved in such a short time. Personally, I'm all for them - witty lyrics and catchy rhythms make them people-friendly. They playing Reading ... ...smallest stage at the festival, and although I didn't watch them, just passing the tent when they were on showed at least crowds of 12 to 15 rows deep outside the tent, something that was completely unheard of for the Carling stage. At the time, they had no record label, and no single had been released. Exactly one year on, they were sub-headliners to Muse at the same festival this year, have a platinum-selling album and are conquering America - ...

Advantages: Some rocking tunes, dirty production sound Disadvantages: Good but not that good
If there was a definitive list of what is hot and what is not in 2006 then I'm sure The Artic Monkeys would be somewhere on it. Emerging through the cigarette smoke of northern clubs, the band has rocketed to the top of the charts with what sounds like your regular British guitar based rock.
So what is so different about the monkeys? Well usually I'm sceptical of the hype. I remember the NME lording various bands in the Britpop era that were pretty ... ...I have to say that this debut album is worth all the judos and sales it's getting. The reason for this is simple. It's the sound of a band with an ear for a good riff, great lyrics and banging tunes. The album opens with 'A View From The Afternoon'. A down and dirty tale of seeing the goings on at night in town. Several times in the track there is a change in musical tact and it never sticks in the same groove. "You can pour your heart out at two ...

Advantages: Fantastic debut British album Disadvantages: No lyrics, just cruddy pictures of the band!
I have to admit I heard the Monkey's debut song (When the sun goes down) without realising who was singing it, then I was hearing all the hype about how great this band The Arctic Monkeys are. When I realised what style of music the band done I bought their album (after waiting a week or so for it to be released) and I loved it.
● Music Style ●
For me, The Monkeys are everything that I hoped The Streets would be without any of the weirdness ... ...two bands are very similar as the monkeys sing about issues that are very down to earth (eg fighting after having a few drinks, pulling in clubs) What makes this a real winner is the combination of really good lyrics (that are sung well) and also the music itself is done very well with some really nice guitar chords that follow the tempo of the songs perfectly. Most of the time the music isn't louder than the singing, so it sits nicely in the background ...

Once in a while, there comes along a band who unite a generation-a band that sums up what it's like to be young, broke and British, in the past we've had The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Oasis and The Libertines, well now there's a new band in the limelight; the ARCTIC MONKEYS whom are from Sheffield! Another one of the early summers must have albums in the UK. This Sheffield based band follows a growing indie music trend already increased by bands such as the Kaiser chiefs and the Kooks. When I first heard 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not ' I was a bit sceptical.
