Advantages: The novelty and truth of the lyrics Disadvantages: Just one weak track that bores me..!
The Arctic Monkeys seem to have captured the hearts of the country (or at least some of it.) The Sheffield lads provided one of the most played songs of 2006 and one of the finest British albums of the past few years in my opinion. One of the funniest things about this album is the story behind the artwork. A friend of the band apparently offered his services, so with some cash he took to the pub and returned a little drunker than before and had ... ...2002, it was not too long before this group of guys began performing to small audiences, their first gig being with 'The Grapes' in Sheffield. Then in 2005 the guys came together and recorded their first EP, featuring some of the tracks actually released on their debut album, one of these being 'From the Ritz to Rubble.' Not to long after the release of 'I Bet You Look Good on the Dance floor,' in 2006 saw their rise to stardom so quickly I don't ...

Advantages: The music is quite fun to listen to, great to dance along to. Disadvantages: A couple of filler tracks included here, very dodgy lyrics in parts.
'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' is the super successful debut album from the Sheffield based indie band that is the Arctic Monkeys. The album sold over 360 000 copies in its first week of going on sale, it was the fastest selling debut album in the UK since Oasis 'Definitely Maybe' effort in 1994; an incredibly fine achievement for the four lads from Sheffield. Is it actually any good an album though? Well, it's not quite so magnificent ... ...pretty decent debut effort however and if you're looking for a fun indie rock album then 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' is most definitely well worth listening to. The album comes complete with a number of highly infectious indie rock tracks; it's not perfect, but the music is great fun to dance along to nonetheless. There are thirteen tracks present here and many of them truly are a lot of fun to listen along to.

Advantages: Refreshing change to drab contempories Disadvantages: Over-hyped
What's depressing about this album is that, although they are the most original of the long line of 'next-big-things', there is nothing to suggest that my children will be asking me to dig this album out of my CD collection when i'm 50. Like the rest of the music scene at the minute, the Arctic Monkeys are a here-and-now band without the credentials to stand the test of time. At least we hope not... For this band to stand the test of time, times ... ...a Band living in times that will have no significance in years to come. They are the best of a bad lot. These days, to discover a band that my chidren will be asking for in 50 years time, you have to dig under the surface of the hand-fed music scene. There you will find music that isn't motivated by money, distorted my mass-marketing and that will stand the test of time, and, who knows, may even be able to build a generation that we can look back ...

Advantages: An album that justifys that price you pay, amazing vocals, strong lyrics, epic sound Disadvantages: NONE
One of the Greatest Albums of modern times. An album with no fillers, no dreariness, no emptiness. A unique case in which reality meets the hype and the sound of a generation is captured. Alex Turner (Front Man) presents Lyrics that are rebellious although present a raw portrayal of modern truth. Anxious guitars with racing drums creates a sound of vigorous roar adding to the intensity and momentum that gathers through every passing track. I put ... ...unquestionable talent that has unleashed an album that is both consistant and intelligent although most importantly an album of undoubtable class. A review of each track would have you bored and theres no way i could capture the quality or tell you the signifigance of each track. The album is a gem 1 to 12 from "view from the afternoon" to "a certain romance". Buy this album and i promise you , you will not be dissapointed. In fact i am excited for ...

Advantages: Great to relate to, an instant piece of musical history Disadvantages: The songs sound quite samey.
Britain's latest lyrical genius, Alex Turner really steals the album with his unique style of song writing. Featuring a great deal of wit, annecdotial observation and social commentaries so effectivley crafted it would make Paul Weller proud. So when you think this is a debut album, you won't be suprised that this is instantly compared to the sheer quality and musical force of Oasis' Definatly Maybe. Trebley guitar riffs are perfectly complimented ... ...by relentless drumming which is topped off with lushiously with Alex Turner's Sheffield twangy and nasal voice. It is about time a British band full of energy came along and filled the void through what is a top 40 tracklist full of very bland singer songwriters singing nonesense about the sea (James Blunt, KT Tunstall and the like). They have already inspired hundreds of would be Gallaghers, Wellers and even Turners now to start up a band of their ...

Advantages: Each track is original and all are well written Disadvantages: Perhaps some collaborations would have been good
The arctic monkeys album, "whatever people say i am, thats exactly what im not" is from a band which recently picked up the mercury prize for the best new album. just to listen to a few of the tracks on the album show you exactly why the three members of the arctic monkeys picked up this award. From the very first song, the view from the afternoon, you get a clear view of why this band has been hallowed as "the next best thing after the beetles". ... ...on the album as it sets the scene for the rest of the album which includes smash-hits such as 'i bet you look good on the dancefloor' and ' mardy bum'. overall, this is a cracking album and it is not suprising that this band have achieved as much as they have in such a short space of time. ...

Advantages: Original and easy to listen to. Disadvantages: Might find the songs a bit same-ish.
Where to start with this album? Arctic Monkeys absolutely exploded onto the Indie scene with their refreshingly different style. This album made them suppermassive and it is essential for any collection. Even Noel Gallagher admits they have trangressed into part of youth culture! This album combines Alex Turner's ingenious lyrics with some awesome riffs. The song 'Fake Tales of San Francisco' is a good example of this, as it utilises a musically ... ...is their debut single 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', a song which has just about made it to cult classic status. This fast paced tune is a firm fans favourite and is what the Monkey's are all about. I would recommend this album to anybody into Indie Rock'n'Roll music, or anyone looking for something that bit different. Oh, and also for anyone that plays guitar, playing along with this album is thoroughly satisfying! ...
