Please forgive me if I act a little strange, For I know not what I did. I first heard about David Gray earlier this year when he signed with ATO records, which is partially owned by Dave Matthews (I heard through an announcement on the Dave Matthews Band announcement list I subscribe to). White Ladder by David Gray was released in the UK in the Spring of 2000, although it had been available in Ireland since 1998 where it had attracted rave reviews and a cult following. It is a collection of 10 tracks with a very laid back acoustic feel. The songs themselves are quite bittersweet and poetic covering most emotions from love, passion and anger. David Gray's first album 'White Ladder' was advertised on TV prior to release and the advert built it up in the same way Radioheads 'The Bends ' was touted as the best album ever. I first heard the album at a freinds and was taken by the strength of Gray's vocals in what is a melodic and soulful range of tracks. I first heard Babylon on Jo Whiley and fell in love with the beautiful melody and absorbing lyrics. Father's day was just round the corner so I bought the album for my dad. It does not dissappoint, every song lives up to the single. "Say Hello Wave Goodbye" is stunning, but then so is all the album. Gray is the new Van Morrisson. Hopefully his festival performances and Radio One airplay will make him the star he deserves to be. I recommend this album ... Read review

When his song was played on the radio for the first time i thought what a tremendous tune and asked the person next to me what the artist was called. He told me and i said "who?". this man has come out of nowhere to be a very big name in rock and pop. Festivcal producers are trippingover each other to get to him. His album has been very succesful and his future looks very bright. I for one hope to see a lot more of him as he provides soulfull tunes ... Read review
