Advantages: Few (very few) good tracks Disadvantages: A lot of crappy tracks.
...a present and she said White Ladder by David Gray, and I replied with WHAT??? I had honestly never heard of the guy or the album. So the next day at school I asked my mates about it, and they said, “ Oh that Gay guy with crap songs.” I did not feel that this was a judgement that I could take on board as I had never heard, knowingly, of any of his songs.
I then saw a Woolworths commercial for his album and realised who he was and I HAD ... ...with crap songs.
Even so, my Sister wanted the Album so I went ahead and bought it for her. When I got home I decided to listen to it while playing on my N64, just to check it out. By doing this I realised that some of the not so popular songs are actually quite good. Although I would have to say that most of them are a pile of rubbish, there are SOME quite decent songs on the Album.
Finally, I would like t say that his Album is nearly all a pile ...

Advantages: Very mellow Disadvantages: Couple of terrible tunes
White Ladder sees David Gray make something of a departure from his usual style, a more modern sound, adding differing beats and electronic sounds to his more traditional acoustic guitar and piano in a successful attempt to widen his appeal. A very mellow album ideal for chilling out to. He has a great voice and is a very talented singer/songwriter.
"Babylon" is the track most people will recognize, but the album has better tracks such as "My oh ...

i first came across david gray in our local supermarket!!! a few months back when 'babylon' was being played over the tannoy speaker and fell in love with the melody first time. i then downloaded a few more of his songs through napster and fell in love even more. this album has a full and rich content be it musically, lyrically, or innovatively.
from the moody and broody 'my oh my' (my favourite) to the rhythmic 'please forgive me' and 'babylon' ...

Advantages: Powerful vocal talent Disadvantages: A couple of weak tracks
Well almost, some of the tracks on this excellent album do remind you of Dylan at his best. David Gray has such a distinct vocal talent and most of the tracks on this album promote this. The mix of Gray's strong voice and the accoustic guitar combine to make a distinct easy listening sound, which is ideal for background music or close listening.
This is certainly one of the best albums I have heard this year and is probably only eclipsed by Coldplay's ...

I first heard this album when I met my boyfriend in April last year and it will forever remind me of him. I was instantly addicted, I don't think I listened to anything else for a month or so. David Gray is without a doubt one of the most talented artist around, I haven't actually come across anybody who dislikes him and he appeals to people for all walks of life is would seem. This album is my favourite and I would recommend everyone should go out ...

Advantages: Just Brilliant Disadvantages: None other than if you have it as background music you might end up leaving you're guests to listen to it !
...You could either listen to White Ladder at volume in the car, as background music or better still listen to it on you're own in a darkened room with a great hi-fi system. Then you fully appreciate how great it is.
I recommend this to anyone because it's so varied I'm sure anyone regardless of usual music taste would LOVE IT.

...trailer for a song called White Ladder by an unknown singer songwriter called David Grey. I liked the song that much I orderd the album (then unavailble in the UK) from the internet. White Ladder is truly one of the most uplifting albums I have ever owned. If I feel the slightest bit down I pop it in the CD player and instantly feel better, It's like a very strange sort of relaxation tape you can literally feel the strains slipping away. Advantages: Musical, Honest, Frank, Sensitive, Brilliant work. Disadvantages: not for the pop pack
...Ireland. His album White Ladder, his third album can only be described as excellent. Very rarely do albums nowadays show so much soul and intimacy. There is a feel about this album that just makes it better each time listened. Amazing!
From the very first notes from his guitar in 'Babylon' right through the album there are signs of early Dylan but in a more sensitive manner. Expression and production are strong points here.
An enjoyable work, buy ...

Advantages: no weak links on the album, thought provoking lyrics Disadvantages: none
After David Gray's success at the Brit Awards, his album was selling at lower price and liking the first two singles off it I decided to buy it. I was not disappointed. With 10 excellent tracks there are no weak links that you find on some albums. 6 of the 10 tracks on the album were written by David Gray, which is very rare on albums which are released now. He proves he is a true musician and not just a karoke singer, as he plays the guitar piano ... ...Please forgive me, Babylon and This Years Love (which is been released as a single soon). This is David Gray's 4th album but it is his first he has had any recognition for here in the UK (I think he has been big in Ireland for awhile now). Critics are calling him a genius and the quotes on the front of the album are deserved. 'It's a record that makes your life feel better by its mere existence' - TIMES. 'Glorious' - MELODY MAKER, 'A remarkable piece ...

...looks after Orbital, who remixed White Ladder’s first single, Please Forgive Me). Gray started out in a band unusually named “Waiting For Deffo”, and was signed to a publishing contract as an art student back in 1991. He has since made three albums for three different record labels. Despite being almost ... ...Without any marketing or promotion, White Ladder reached number one in the charts and Gray got to play at the Fleadh festival last year – reinforcing the misconception that the Manchester-born singer is in fact Irish. In 1998, Gray set up his own label, re-mortgaged his house, and recorded his fourth album at home for an outlay of about £20,000. Then he put it out himself. Earlier this year, David Gray was spotted by the new boss of EastWest Records, ...

...been given David Gray's White Ladder for Christmas, when they actually wanted Craig David, poor things, I don't know which is worse. In 1999 I rented the video, "This Years Love", it's an ok film set in Camden. It's got some good actors/actresses in it like, Kathy Burke and Ian Hart, unfortunately it also has David Gray in it. The soundtrack for the film takes songs from this album, which has only just been succesfullly promoted. I've come across him a few times at gigs, and those who know him tell me he's a bit of an egotist. I've even had the "pleasure" in 1999 of being backstage with his support band and being told that everyone had to get out whilst he came in and changed his "shirt". I was told that was typical of his ...

Advantages: Good tracks, popular artist, very easy listening Disadvantages: Could be too much in 'dance' style for some people
David Gray is someone that now I really admire musically, as well as just someone who has released a couple of songs which I have liked within the past few months. Not only are the two songs that he has released exceptional, but this album is brilliant in that it demonstrates his excellence not only as a musician, but also as an artist.
I bought the album because I am a great fan of his two singles that he has so far released in the UK (Babylon ... ...he has released a lot so far are possibly the best, however there are still some excellent songs available on the album, and I am sure that I will like them more when I listen to the album more thoroughly, as indeed I think that other people would do too.
