Sharleen Spiteri heads Texas with her on vocals and guitar. Their first hit ‘I Don’t Want A Lover’ was a mixture of R&B and country folk, and their musical sound hasn’t really changed since then apart from a couple of soul and blues hits on the album ‘White on Blonde’. Remember Texas. They did the excellent album "Southside" in 1989 and then disappeared from the face of the Earth. Well, actually they didn't. They produced 2 fairly average albums before the rather lovely "White On Blonde". If it hadn't have been for Chris Evens promoting "Say What You Want" on the Radio One breakfast show this fine album might not have had the attention, and sales, it deserved. “White on Blonde” was the album which put Texas back on the map in 1997, and there is no doubting it is a superb album. It has 14 tracks on it, including the singles “Say What You Want”, “Halo” and “Black Eyed Boy” (my personal favourite track). If you are looking for a less heralded track recommendation try listening to “Drawing Crazy Patterns”, also a superb song. ...own a copy! I bought WHITE ON BLONDE on the advice of a friend after it just came out, and after listening to it I am really glad that I did. This is the album that really launched Texas into the big time and made them stars - I'm sure there will be songs on this that everyone knows and cant help but sing along to! ...not go big time untill White on Blonde was released. Sharleen Spiteri must be one of the best vocalists out there and this album most certainly shows this with the number of hit singles. The album starts with 'Say what you want' which I think is one of my top ten songs evr and carries on thru 'Halo' and 'Black eyed boys' which are also classics. An album that rightfully put Texas back on the top - they are also excellent live. ... Read review
