Advantages: A terrific album packed full of tremendously catchy tracks, fantastic music to dance to. Disadvantages: The music may not be serious enough for some.
...from their début album, 'A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation' is an album which has brought great success to The Wombats and as far as I'm concerned this is nothing less than they deserve. Released in November 2007, their first album offering to date is thirteen tracks strong and consists of many fantastic tracks. Having been together for several years previous to recording this album has clearly benefited The Wombats greatly as they sound excellent ... ...history.
'A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation' is the first album the band have ever released in the UK, however in 2006 they released an album in Japan only entitled 'Girls, Boys and Marsupials'. It could therefore be seen perhaps then that this is the bands second album, however the fact that most of the tracks that were present on the Japan release are here also means that this is not really so. It would be foolish to argue that this is the bands ...

Advantages: Witty lyrics, catchy tunes and great fun. Disadvantages: Maybe a little too poppy, almost devoid of seriousness.
...To New York, Backfire At The Disco and Lets Dance To Joy Division stand out as especially memorable gems of near-perfect punk-indie-rock-pop.
A Guide To Love, Loss And Desperation consists of thirteen catchy, chirpy three-minute crowd-pleasers, liberally sprinkled with infectious wit and great stick-in-your-head tunes. A fantastic debut album. ...

Advantages: Addictive tunes, Witty Lyrics, Good fun throughout. Disadvantages: They could perhaps take themselves a little bit more seriously.
It's rare that you come across an album that kicks off with an acapella, reminiscent of 50's barbershop music. It's even rarer that this tune will sound fresh and fun, forget "New Rave", "New Barbershop" anyone?
This quirky opener really sums up the rest of the album, "tales of girls, and boys, and marsupials!" the Liverpool lads squeal in happy harmony, and they have let us in on the lyrical topics we can expect. Well, aside from the marsupials ... ...romance, unrequited love and a sprinkling of silliness on top.
The bouncy, indie guitar songs this three piece deliver are all as catchy as lead single "Let's Dance To Joy Division", after a good listen to the album you'll find yourself humming the tunes and sprouting the words. This of course is a testament to the superb song writing of this album.
Singer Matt's voice quivers and cracks throughout this album with seemingly genuine emotion (despite ...

A guide to Love, Loss & Desperation (AGTLLD) is the debut album from indie-pop group the wombats, well its the first UK album they did release one in Japan a year or two back but the tracklisting are basically the same on both with the addition of a couple of new tracks on AGTLLD. I believe the album to be one of the best released this year due to each track being original and i dont think theres one bad song on the album.
~~~The Tracks~~~
Ive ... ...it would be fair to comment on the others as i havent listened to them enough.
1. Tales Of Girls, Boys And Marsupials
The album kicks of with an acapella from the three lads, ok its not going to go top of the charts and youll probably skip it every time youve listened to it once but its a laugh the first time.
2. Kill The Director
This is definately the best song on the album a upbeat indie song from the heart with words youll find yourself singing ...
Advantages: Songs catchy, Easy to understand, good for a jump about. Disadvantages: Yet to think of one
What can i say.. Definetely the best album ive heard in a long time.
Must say tho, do not judge it on the first track (boys girls and marsupials)... When i first herd it I thought the album was going to be really bad but listening to the whole album it actually works quite well... Its not really a song but more like a harmony if u will but it blends into the next song really well and thats the reason it works.
Its one of those albums you hear once ... ...they are all very catchy.
Top marks to the writter aswell because the lyrics are actually pretty good and very easy to hear. Its like some one telling you a story, and alot of the song you can actually relate too.. well I could anyway.
As for genre... i guess I would class it as sort of rock brit pop... kind of like the keiser cheifs meets libertines.
Definatly worth putting your hands in your pockets for. Be hard to beat. Better than the pigeon ...
Quick review of Guide To Love Loss And Desperation, A - Wombats (The)
An album full of up-beat catchy songs. You'll be hard pressed to find a song you don't like on this album and it's guaranteed to make you happy when you're feeling a little down.
My personal favourite is 'Let's Dance to Joy Division'. When you've got a song stuck in your head all the time it's either highly annoying or absolutely incredible. This is easily the latter.
An essential purchase if you're an indie fan and - if not - there's enough catchy tunes on here to make plenty of people happy. ...
Advantages: Catchy melodies, songs to relate to. Disadvantages: One or rwo tracks you might find dissapointing.
This album is one of those records you listen to and find yourself thinking you already know the songs, such is the quality of this quirky indie-pop album. Amidst an orgy of harmonies, dancefloor-ready beats and dirty guitar riffs, the quality of the wombats' melody writing shines through, with a large quantity of songs that would sit comfortably in the top 20 of the charts.
Aside from the three popular singles from the album, (kill the director, ... ...you can find quality catchy melodies on several stand out tracks, including barbershop opener "tales of girls...", dirty and bouncing pop track "school uniforms" and mandatory slow song turned sing-along anthem "here comes the anxiety." However, every album has its down-points (reference the clear album fillers "lost in the post" and "my first wedding." You'll find that almost every track tells a story and in many cases you can hopefully relate to ...
Was un-sure about a band named 'The Wombats' but trust me, they are fantastic, and are already one of my favourite british bands!
A great listen from start to finish. I didn't know much about this band but they were playing at a venue near me, so I bought the album. As soon as I heard it, I loved it, every track was great to listen to, and very enjoyable.
On the strength of the album I have now seen this band live 3 times, and had a great time ...
Advantages: Makes you dance, catchy song Disadvantages: some poor songs also poor versions of good songs
Good album, good sound not too over done re recordings of song however are terrible in comparison to the pre release version of "Let's Dance To Joy Division" and "Moving to New York" are much better than their new counterparts. On the upside "Kill The Director" is much improved and the other songs are also on the whole good there maybe one or two songs which should really just be bench warmers however they are not awful and can be endured. The album ...
