X & Y is Coldplays third supposedly difficult album. Not difficult to listen to but difficult for an altogether different reason. 2000 was Coldplays year. Starting rockily with Shiver only charting at 35 in the UK charts, follow up single 'Yellow' changed all that. Ok… before I start, I have a slight confession, I didn't used to be a huge Coldplay fan, and to be honest I don't know an awful lot about them except for the legendary songs like "clocks", which quite frankly if you haven't heard of… well yeh… Anyway... Whilst containing seminal singles 'Fix You' and 'Speed of Sound', it's the tracks around these that really bring the album into it's own. Great album from the legendary band that is Cold Play, another must have for anyones collection. Songs such as "Talk" and "Speed of Sound" really help to show ColdPlays real colours and amazing ability at producing excellent music for everyone. With no tacky lyrics or dance videos. ColdPlay are a great relief from tacky Hip hop and rap stars who parade half naked people on their videos. I think coldplay are much better because they are suitable for all the family. Who wants a 5 year old watching 50 cent and listening to him singing about sex? If you havent purchased a Coldpllay album before, make it this one that you do purchase :) ...

Based upon their past albums, Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head, which are in my opinion masterpieces, like most people I was again expecting a brilliant album. And although I'm not disappointed, it's definitely different from the previous two albums. The signature piano melodies have become quieter, more subdued, and the guitars are more prominent creating a more polished, rocky sound. ...
...as is the title track X and Y. Their first release, Speed of Sound is another soaring tune. In fact, each song is very good, but they don't stand out like tracks from the first two albums. All in all, you should buy this album, as Coldplay are still a cut above the rest.
