Advantages: Excellent lengthy album, good guitar/drum work
Disadvantages: A few of the tracks sound very similar

X & Y is Coldplays third supposedly difficult album. Not difficult to listen to but difficult for an altogether different reason. 2000 was Coldplays year. Starting rockily with Shiver only charting at 35 in the UK charts, follow up single 'Yellow' changed all that. Ok… before I start, I have a slight confession, I didn't used to be a huge Coldplay fan, and to be honest I don't know an awful lot about them except for the legendary songs like "clocks", which quite frankly if you haven't heard of… well yeh… Anyway... Advantages: Holds its ground among the new indie competitors
Disadvantages: May be somewhat overshadowed by past albums

The album opens, for me, slower than what I expected. This isnt a bad thing however as the albums track listing is nothing short of impeccable. Whilst containing seminal singles 'Fix You' and 'Speed of Sound', it's the tracks around these that really bring the album into it's own. ...tender strains of title track X & Y give it a tempestuous edge with a gentler, romantic feel... The arrangements venture into new ground, uncharted territory yet reassuring. X & Y is a prime example that rock can be intimate and assuaging, by reaching deep into the soul, revealing something relevant within its borders. Great album from the legendary band that is Cold Play, another must have for anyones collection. Songs such as "Talk" and "Speed of Sound" really help to show ColdPlays real colours and amazing ability at producing excellent music for everyone. With no tacky lyrics or dance videos. ColdPlay are a great relief from tacky Hip hop and rap stars who parade half naked people on their videos. I think coldplay are much better because they are suitable for all the family. Who wants a 5 year old watching 50 cent and listening to him singing about sex? If you havent purchased a Coldpllay album before, make it this one that you do purchase :)

Advantages: New sound with familiar feel
Disadvantages: Feel like they could have done more songs

Very few recording artists tend to better previous albums but coldplay are the exeption that prove the rule with their greatest collection of song to date. The opening track Square One screams out as a single release but it is not the only track that does this as even the hidden track Kingdom Come inpired by the late Jonny Cash deserves a place amongst the best seller charts. ...again superb. Rating: 7/10 6. X and Y-I think this song, the title track is very much reminiscent of their earlier work on Parachutes, and has a very atmospheric air about it. This is achieved with Martin's vocals and some guitaring that has an almost lullaby quality about it. My rating 8/10 7. Speed of Sound, starting with a piano, and quickly drums. ...better! and then there was x & y! When coldplay famously disappeared after rush of blood tour- promising that they would not return in the same style? They lied. They must have sat around drinking herbal tea watching their bank accounts get fatter. They then thought bloody hell it has been a while so we better get an album together.
